  1. By Jove he's got it! What makes science other than a guessing game is that the predictions which follow from the "guesses" (hypotheses) are tested empirically. Ba'al Chatzaf I'm a 'she'. Andie is short for 'Andrea'. Andie, What do you want to do here on OL? Just make some bland posts to soften people up before showing your ass and wasting eveyone's time? Before we discuss anything else, what is your opinion on Eva Mathews and a slew of other sockpuppets and fake accounts? I could give you a list of names, but I have no doubt you know them already. btw - I'm not going to spend much time on this. MIchael As Ba'al just wrote, politely stating that the induction v deduction debate has been superseded by a mew term is hardly 'bland'. Otherwise, i neither know 'EM' nor care about your past issues with any other poster. As the site's host, you seem to be a rude man who's a bit paranoid about facts and concepts which contradict your own--hardly a welcomer. As for me, I'm a college grad with a masters in PolySci. I'm presently enrolled in Spain, at Salamanca, to write my dissertation on the origin of Spanish poetry. moreover, 'extasis' as stemming from the Persian gazul worked its way through Spain into all of European verse. I'm on this Objectivist site to maintain an American contact. Interestingly enough, while student- Spanish ideas vary far more from mine than to those of Rand (theirs being somewhat communistic), everyone here has treated me with far more respect that that which you've shown.
  2. The term 'abduction' seems to be the most agreed-upon term that describes a basic inductive method that's modified by a priori notions as what to expect. Likewise, abduction modifies the classic Aristotelian deductive model by stating that conclusions do not necessarily fall from premises. In other words, doing science involves a lot of educated guessing. Andie
