  1. Hi, "Kreso" -- by "your work," I assume you mean my work on the BPOO and POET lectures. The transcriptions are all done, and have been since last September. The BPOO book is moving gradually toward publication, with a projected date of September 09 (just around the corner), but there is still work to be done, including footnotes and (hopefully) and index. Gads, I'm glad I'm not a book publisher -- or editor. I'd be tearing out my hair!

As for ~my own~ work, I'm having more fun than a barrel of monkeys! I delivered a talk on emotion and meaning in music in Las Vegas at Free Minds 09 on July 7, and then motored to Mammoth Lakes, CA where I played in one jazz group and played and sang with a big band (16 musicians). Currently I have just finished arrangement #3 of songs for a CD of mostly originals (5 of 7) that I expect to be finished in the fall, perhaps by end of summer. I'll announce on OL when it's available for purchase, which will mainly be through CD Baby, both CD format and digital download.

I am ~not~ enjoying the broiling hot weather in my "day gig" at Disneyland. They turned down (?) the air conditioning in our break area, so that the temperature is now allowed to creep up to 74 with fairly high relative humidity. Not easy to cool down after 30 minutes of pounding the pavement and the lips, entertaining folks at the Happiest Place on Earth. But it's a gig!

"Roger", wow, sounds like you are having a really interesting time in your life, I'm glad to hear you are having fun playing and singing in such interesting places as well as delivering philosophical talks.

By 'your work' I was wondering in particular about POET in written format (including changes you and Barbara discussed in this particular topic). Thanks for answering!

  2. I was wondering how is the progress on your work going Roger?

I enjoyed the original version of POET very much, and considering the changes you and Barbara said will be made - I am eager to see the final result!

Congratualations on the progress you're making on these, Roger. For the Record, I was able to supply Nathaniel with all 48 of his seminar LPs and he and Leigh have had them digitalized and as soon as Leigh finishes checking the work this month, they should be available on NB's Web Site. I also sent them quite a few other LPs going back as early as 65-66. I sent them 38 lbs of records and they all came back on one CD! Amazing.

By the way, I am pretty sure it's a DVD

  3. Objectivists typically define reason as "the faculty which identifies and integrates the data provided by one's senses". This definition, however, leaves no room for identification or integration of concretes observed through introspection. Neither does it leave room for the possibility of identifying or integrating the concretes of the internal states of others, as these can only be inferred (in part) from the exisence of one's own awareness of one's own internal states.

Since nobody is answering I will give it a try.

When you are introspecting you are still using your own senses, are you not?

When you are identifying states of others (rate of breathing, facial expression, body language etc. and then naming that state or emotion) you can do that only because you are using the data that you previously got and integrated through your own senses.

I don't understand what is strange about that.
