9thdoctor
In Brazil, there is a saying that whores never change, they just take some time off.So will the next Phil tribute song be by Peaches & Herb, or Gloria Gaynor? We should take a poll.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2vvOPsiVdU Bad lip synching in that one, ick. And finally, apropos of nothing:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUslGSoEH8I
Dragonfly
If we use musical illustrations, then an apt one would of course be Beethoven's Les Adieux sonata ("Lebewohl"):<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>But the last movement is titled Das Wiedersehen (The Return)...<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Philip Coates
> Long goodbyes deepen the hurt…Hey, ND, I understand your pain -- but if it makes you feel better, I said I'd try to complete a couple topics I was posting on before "bailing". I made the first of them today on the thread you linked to.Also, there is nothing particularly 'acrimonious' about my departure -- just better things to do with my time. And JR didn't offer a reason, so you're reading into both. I had a good laugh at the troll who said I 'drove JR out'. Jerry Biggers
I assume all this jeering, accusations, ridicule, taunts are in jest. Just a good-natured ribbing between (cultural)war buddies.....(right?) But, I would like to add that both Jeff Riggenbach and Phil Coates have posted some valuable commentaries that demonstrated a wide-ranging knowledge on topics of interest to both Objectivists and libertarians. As have others who have participated in this "food Fight" (flame war)...but, of course, it's all in fun.... When allies are circling the wagons, its not a good idea to start shooting at each other.
Michael Stuart Kelly
Jerry,I cannot think of a singe person who thinks these dudes are evil scum who should be drawn and quartered, mocked to their faces in total contempt and jeered out of respectable society. (Well... Maybe there are a couple with respect to Jeff... he does have a talent for competently getting under the skin of pompous people. )Low-level melodrama pervades our little subculture at moments of thin skin and horsing around provides some well-needed comic relief.Michael
Mikee
Michael,Re: Your post #5.I'm assuming you're talking about me when you refer to the "bullying poster who fortunately doesn't post much anymore."I admit to being hurt and disappointed by this statement. There is not a single word of what I said to and about Virginia Murr that I do not believe to be the truth and not a word of it was meant to bully her. I tolerated her silly boasts and nonsensical claims but drew the line at an outright lie. I happened to have spent my twenties and early thirties very much involved in the martial arts here in the San Francisco bay area. There are literally hundreds of martial arts schools here. I am a Kajukenbo black belt, I have several years experience teaching Karate for self defense. I have competed in approximately 50 "open" tournaments up and down California. Open meaning "all styles". We received points for strikes to the groin area, protective cups were required for all competitors. Never have I heard of anyone breaking one of these cups. Ever. I could stomach a claim that Virginia might have done this once and assumed a defective cup that was already cracked. For her to state that she has done this "many times" I conclude is a bald faced lie. I can state definitely that she would not make these claims around a group of people she knew were experienced martial artists. I am used to and tolerant of outrageous claims and bragging amongst martial artists but an outright lie on an objectivist website is over the top. Seriously.Save your hurt feelings for when you need them. In this case, they are not pertinent.I have never thought of you as a bullying poster (although it is true that you don't post much around here anymore).I only wish you the best.Michael

I don't believe her claims either and I do have some experience with karate. I can see how she might have some sparing advantages against a much larger opponent--sparing, not fighting except surprise and a kick to a knee, not the groin. Against a strong 140-150 pounder that knows some karate and some serious wrestling moves and gets her on the ground--it's all over. The lack of modesty she has the nerve to call "pride" is really offensive. Real pride quietly informs who has it. False pride splatters itself all over the landscape.--Brant
