Kimmler
If an objectivist is going bald would he/she ever wear a wig or would that be irrational and trying to deny reality? Same goes for dyeing your hair when it is losing it's colour. Would that be irrational and trying to deny reality? I can understand and actor dyeing their hair to land 'younger' roles but why would any objectivist dye their hair or wear a wig?

9thdoctor
Is it irrational to wear deodorant? What about cologne/perfume? Don't use of these constitute denial of reality? What about shaving? According to Tertullian, shaving is "a lie against our own faces and an impious attempt to improve the works of the Creator".Now on hairstyle, I, for one, do draw the line at combovers. Selene
When you run out of substance, you resort to farce and then to childishness. You know, the trial lawyers routine:First: pound the facts...Second: pound the law...And finally, when you are losing on those two key areas, ...pound the table.I just imagine him as Nikita Khrushchev pounding the table with his shoe at the UN.Adam
syrakusos
It is a personal choice.... said the redhead... Red runs in our family and my mother had this little bottle of dye. We never thought anything of it, like eyebrow pencil or lipstick. Well, we were watching "I Love Lucy." Lucy had a broken leg - skiing accident I think - and there was a fire in the apartment, or she thought there was, and she came hobbling out of the bathroom with two big bottles of henna under her arms. Paul and I cracked up, but Mom just tisked and left the room. (See below.)Next you'll be asking whether it's rational for female Objectivists to wear makeup.... but not men...You know, I got this skin lotion from Durk & Sandy. Lots of anti-evil in a thin oil, but, like many of their formulations, somewhat wierd in its having a red tint to it. Made my face look bright. Then, needing to slick down the old mop, I put it in my hair ... looking like Ronald Reagan. (Ever see the Roast with Jonathan Winters?) Back in the 80s, I wore purple occasionally. Went great with the spikey look.I put out birdseed this morning and just now, a male and female cardinal came by. In so many species, the male is the more attractive of the pair. It almost makes you wonder why human females get tarted up.Is it irrational to wear deodorant? What about cologne/perfume? ... Now on hairstyle, I, for one, do draw the line at combovers. I use Dial and I wish everyone did. It is doctor recommended. Seriously. And I agree on the comb-overs. But, my perspective is based on what I see in the mirror. Starbuckle
True Objectivists do not fake reality in any manner whatsoever. They do not wear wigs to disguise their bald or balding pates, do not wear clothes or perpetrate exercise to disguise their out-of-shapeness, do not wear spectacles to pretend they are not near-sighted, do not wear contacts to pretend they don't need spectacles, etc. They do not wash lest they obscure their natural dirt and odor. They do not study grammar, logic, history, science, philosophy, literature or enunciation, or attempt to learn and grow in any way, lest they thereby dupe others about the innate inarticulateness and ignorance with which they were born. Honest, rational, objective and free practitioners of reason, freedom, objectivity and honesty do nothing but sit on the ground and suck their thumbs from the day they are born until the day they die. But they might occasionally burble fatuously inept inanities on discussion boards in fumbling dunderheaded manifestation of the One True Objective Kimmlerian Way of Being. Wouldn't that be the "fair" and "socially just" thing to do? Same goes for dyeing your hair when it's losing its color. Shouldn't socialists agree to dye their hair the same drab color as all other socialists so that no one can stand out and make others feel as if they're not as attractive? After all, it's not fair that nature gives some people prettier colors of hair than others.J
