Maybe she liked to get laid.

why can't a man be a "slut"?

For some bizarre reason, I have always found the word ‘slut’ (as applied to an attractive woman) to be a turn-on.

I suspect that the word is assumed to denote a female because with women such behavior is exceptional. With men, it is much more the rule rather than the exception.

“If she was a slut sleeping around or whatever, you don’t need to worry about what to do.”

Great. Lenny the Love Doctor.

All this coming from someone who probably hasn't had their junk working since somewhere in the seventies. Tops. If ever.

When he dies, they should put his penis in a small jelly jar and display it behind bulletproof glass at the AR museum. It won't take up too much space.

I’m not so sure. Times have changed, you know. Age is no longer that relevant to virility. Hugh Hefner is in his mid-eighties and nearly wedded a smokin’ hot playmate barely out of her teens. (She left him at the altar, high and dry.)

We are now living in the age of Viagra. And based on some of his recent podcasts praising the glory of sexual ecstasy, he and his wife (formerly his housekeeper, I understand) appear to be making good use of it.

Etymology

Although the ultimate origin of slut is unknown. It first appeared in Middle English in 1402 as slutte (AHD), with the meaning "a dirty, untidy, or slovenly woman."[2] Even earlier, Geoffrey Chaucer used the word sluttish (c.1386) to describe a slovenly man; however, later uses appear almost exclusively associated with women.[2] The modern sense of "a sexually promiscuous woman" dates to at least 1450.[2]

Another early meaning was "kitchen maid or drudge" (c. 1450), a meaning retained as late as the 18th century, when hard knots of dough found in bread were referred to as "slut's pennies."[2] A notable example of this use is Samuel Pepys's diary description of his servant girl as "an admirable slut" who "pleases us mightily, doing more service than both the others and deserves wages better" (February 1664). In the 19th century, the word was used as a euphemism in place of "bitch" in the sense of a female dog.[2][3]

Similar words appear in Dutch, German and Swedish dialects meaning "a dirty woman," indicating a common ancestor in Germanic languages. The word entered the colloquial Yiddish as "akhsluttishkha" meaning "a hag". It exists in Ukrainian too as slutyj as a loan word from Yiddish or via the mediaeval Scandinavian Varangian colonists in Kievan Rus'. A popular theory connects slut to earlier Germanic forms meaning "slush" or "mud puddle," but this derivation remains in question.

Post Script: The blushing young bride of Mr. Hefner stated that they had had sex only once and it lasted only a few seconds. Additionally, she claimed that she never saw him naked.

Thanks for the information, but I still think it’s a turn-on.

Maybe Hef should try Cialis.

No disagreement here. In the D/s world, a submissive beams at being called "slut."

It is an extreme, pun intended, compliment by the Dominant.

Dennis,

For some bizarre reason, I don't find that bizarre at all. I find it perfectly normal.

But hell, I'm damaged goods...

It seems bizarre because most people (e.g., Peikoff) use the term 'slut' in a pejorative way. For me, though, the term simply connotes a woman who loves sex. That’s what I find to be a turn-on.

It seems to apply mainly in the fantasy realm, because I suspect that many women to whom the term literally applies would not be women whom I would find sexually attractive. (I don’t generally apply ethical principles to the sexual arena unless someone uses force or abuses children. I absolutely condemn those behaviors, but not much else.)

There are some aspects of the mind-body dichotomy to blame here, culturally and historically. The old Victorian ethic taught women that, if they are open about liking sex, they are “bad girls,” so women (tragically) are often still afraid to admit that they like it.

It is utterly amazing to me that there are men who feel threatened by women who enjoy sex, but I still hear and read about such men all the time. I feel the opposite—if she does not like it, I immediately lose all interest. But the prevalence of the tendency among women to feign disinterest explains why a man like me (and apparently you guys) would respond to such a loaded term in a profoundly positive way.

For me a "slut" is a woman who sleeps around for the most casual of reasons, but not a prostitute.

--Brant

When I was coming up the sleep around girl who did not charge was called a whore.

Whore was on this list.

What's your favortie Old-fashioned word for slut

Seems the slut word issue is quite the talk of the internet town!

In my husband's Scottish youth such an l obliging lassie was called (among other things I'm sure) "the local good thing".

Who'd have thought Glasgow would provide a kinder, gentler vocab in this area!

I resonate deeply with the implied naughtiness in the word "slut."

I think without thinking, "I know who you are."

:)

Funny, I don't get the same resonance when thinking about a porn star.

I think the naughtiness is the buzz, not the sex.

I mean, how could a girl ever be a slut without the fuddy-duddy class pointing at them and tsk-tsking, sort of like they do as they pore over their copy of National Inquirer?

:)

Sometimes the obliging lassies are also called "The Town Bicycle" (everyone has had a ride). :D

I picked "floozy" because it resembles a bit the old-fashioned German "Flittchen".

With "floozy" I connote a certain lightness, a superficial, butterfly-like being fluttering from man to man.

The currently used German term for "slut" is 'Schlampe' (youth jargon).

But when I was child, a "Schlampe" meant something else altogether: a slovenly, untidy woman. The term had no sexual connotation. This has changed.

Kind and gentle have their place, but they don’t tend to redirect your blood flow.

As Mae West might have said, kind and gentle ain’t got nothin’ to do with it.

I also suspect those two particular traits are way down on the list of things most sluts are looking for.

I like "trollop", which like Schlampe meant more of a sloven or slattern than a sleeparound.

Interesting that being a rotten housekeeper segues so easily into promiscuity in the semantic psyche!

If we ever have an Objectivist trivia game, this question will have to be on one of the cards: What do Arnold Schwarzenburger, Jerry Seinfeld and Leonard Peikoff have in common?

Such extraordinary good fortune: finding the embodiment of all your most treasured values in the woman you hired to do your laundry. Talk about a benevolent universe!

I like "trollop", which like Schlampe meant more of a sloven or slattern than a sleeparound.

You prefer "trollop" over "slut"?? "Something about her was alluring, and he suddenly grasped what it was. She had the face of a movie star, the body of a swimsuit model and the beckoning eyes of a . . . trollop?"

Doesn't work for me. Tramp, maybe. But not trollop. Doesn't stir my blood at all.

Back in the 1970s a rumor was afoot in West Coast circles to the effect that Rand had pressured LP to take some kind of voice lessons in order to mitigate his -- How shall I put this delicately? -- unmanly manner of speaking. I believe Roy Childs was the source of this rumor; and though Roy was well-connected and had lots of accurate details about the Split before they became widely known, I have never found any substantiation for this particular story.

Promiscuous men never seemed to get called anything worse than dogs or womanizers -- though there wasn't always admiration in those terms.

Carol:

I completely agree.

Four about the last four or five years, when I am "bantering," in other words, flirting with a woman, I will slip in the middle of a discussion the following:

"Now me, I am a complete male slut!" It is fascinating the breathless relief that you hear or see in the conversation.

I have even have some women say, well that is refreshing that you can be honest.

....and then you seamlessly turn the conversation to the

brilliant eroticism in Ayn Rand's novels, is my guess. No wonder you know so much about DH's! I always thought they were Dear Hubbies. Or Donut Huts..or Dennis HardinRumsfeldLizards...oh, no, not that again.....

Nobody promotes the Shrine of Ayn as creatively as you.
