In other cases they behave more like soundwaves as they travel through a wind instrument.Using satellite images of these loops, which can be over 60,000 miles long, the scientists were able to recreate the sound by turning the visible vibrations into noises and speeding up the frequency so it is audible to the human ear. I don't know why, but I like it.Michael

BaalChatzaf
Very interesting. I like that we've found a way to pull sound from space.~ ShaneThere are periodic variations of the sun's magnetic fields (which produce electromagnetic waves). The equipment is running so relatively low frequency e.m. field against that and picking up the beats which are turned into sound by magnetic amplifiers. Don't read too much into that. What is coming from the sun, unlike what comes out of your radio did not originate as longitudinal vibrations of the air. It is no more mysterious than the sixty cycle hum of a loud speaker system. The sun is a large lump of plasma (at least in its outer layers) and it quivers and quavers. One can describe some of this with spherical harmonics. Bob,I meant to imply that since space is a vacuum, you can't hear (like the sounds they pump into sci-fi shows). I knew the tech existed, just never heard it before. Thanks for the info, though Not a day goes wasted when you learn something new...haha!~ Shane
