Revisiting the Shroud of Turin

15 years after seeing and reading The Jesus Conspiracy, I still find this topic very interesting. There are two reasons:

1 - If proven, it shows us the face of a very important historical figure.

2 - It'd be interesting to see the Vatican do a 180 on their stance that the Shroud is a medieval forgery.

From MSNBC's site, there's a quick article about the carbon-14 dating conducted in 1988 which concluded the sample was from around the 12-13th century. There's a lot of animosity in the pro-shroud crowd as to how that sample was obtained and delivered, leading many to believe the actual sample was swapped (there are weight disparities described in the book). There is also newer technology that is being used to extropolate the 3D data that's encoded in the 2D shroud. This will be seen on the show.

Of interest, there is a link to STURP (Shroud of Turin Research Project). On the page, you'll see it titled "Rethinking the Shroud Objectively." The original conclusion after 120 hours of research is posted here, along with a side link to "Facts Gallery" which I think some of you may find interesting. It approaches the image formation scientifically and explains away the fallacy of the medieval forgery.
