Smith Posted March 15, 2010 Share Posted March 15, 2010 As I recall, Graves turned down an offer to play Phelps in the first "Mission Impossible" movie, because he hated the idea of Phelps being a villain. I admired Graves for his decision, and, as a fan of the television series, I disliked the movie for that reason. Nor did I care for the sequels, which were little more than star vehicles for Tom Cruise and never captured the spirit of the original. Graves, Greg Morris and the voice on the tape at the beginning of the show. Peter Graves was a good, solid presence for many years on television. He'll be missed.
