Lady in the Moonlight

By John C. Paschalis

I am like the sun

in solar wind

blazing in golden pyres.

Though madness befalls me,

my heart yet beats

in the name of my lover

who is like a ninja's fair maiden

delicate in her Oriental gown,

sleeping beneath

the moon in full cycle

that sheds its luminosity

upon the whole

I contemplate the fair maiden

and the full moon:

one is the guardian

of a ninja's spirit,

the other the most contented

of all celestial bodies.

I feel that I am doomed

when I see that my fiery plumes

have eclipsed her moon.
