Obama Casts His Spell

Factual correction: Glenn Beck is a libertarian-conservative. He is the host of the third most listened to radio show in America. A converted Mormon. He also, has given Ron Paul full access to both his radio and cable television show.

Just this morning, Glenn Beck told everyone in his audience that they must read Atlas Shrugged which he read ten years ago and stated flatly that this is the most important book for everyone to read.

He then went on to compare O'Bama's current socialist program, which O'ama masks under the guise of "progressive", which, if you research the "progressive" movement in America, it was basically national socialism, to particular pages in Atlas Shrugged that he underlined ten years ago, explaining that this is the program that O'Bama wants to put in place in America.

He concluded that it is time to start looking for Galt's Gulch.

I think Perigo has this right:

Shayne,

You mean the part about Objectivist presenters having sticks up their asses?

I mean the part about having passion as well as using reason. I don't know which Objectivist presenters he's talking about so I can't comment on that part.

Did I miss something? I hadn't heard that Obama was expressing the type of "passion" that Linz advocates. Has Obama been calling his campaign staff "scumbags" lately? Has he been calling members of his own party "slimy, swamp-dwelling, arse-licking pusballs" and screaming "fuck off" when they politely ask him about his views?

Shayne,

So you agree with what this Bozo says and not what he does?

Or do you think that saying that Objectivist presenters have sticks up their asses is, to use your words, "having passion as well as using reason"?

I, for one, don't think words should be cut off from deeds. If you preach one thing, you should live it. That Bozo does not.

You are free to admire him as a good Objectivist if you like.

I don't understand why you guys are reading more into what I said than what I said. I think the idea of rational passion as an ideal is correct. I don't agree with how Perigo implements this credo. I don't think he's rational. But it's a great credo.

Shayne,

Why not cite someone who is not a hypocrite?

Michael

Like who?

Or do you wish us to be inspired by you pointing to that Bozo as the good?

If someone says something I agree with I tend to support what they said regardless of who said it. So no, I don't care about who you are inspired by.

Shayne,

It is obvious you do not care about convincing anyone.

What's patently false can't be obvious.

So why bother discussing? Do you get value out this? Does it make you feel good or something?

Your questions stem from a bogus premise.

All I'm seeing is that you're sensitive to Perigo. Your responses make no sense otherwise. I don't blame you, but you should get enough of a grip on yourself to recognize that not everyone has the same emotional response as you.

Edit: I wasn't trying to draw your ire, I didn't recognize that the word "Perigo" would cause you to react as you're doing, but now that I have, I have to say that I have absolutely no sympathy for you. I just happened on that post of Perigo's and thought it was relevant to my points above. I wasn't trying to get a rise out of you. Yet you keep trying to ascribe hidden motives to me as if I was trying to piss you off or something. I realize I pissed you off, I don't care that I did, I see that as your problem not mine, but I wasn't trying to.

Oh. Sorry. I assumed that you were agreeing with Perigo's concept of "passion."

Shayne:

Since you recognized that my "factual" post had some merit.

Would you permit me to ask you some direct factual questions as to your age?

Mine is 61.

Your educational backround?

Mine is that I graduated H.S. at the age of 16 in 1962.

Last time you asked for personal information it was to "stipulate" that I was a white male and to my locale. Should I find the fact that you keep inquiring about my personal stats and in legalistic terms disturbing in any way?

You can choose to be "disturbed" any way you wish, it it still a semi-free country.

Shayne,

You blast Krauthammer sight unseen, then call him part of a moral vacuum after reading him even though your later statements echo what he wrote, then expect me to swallow your lofty praise of Perigo as some kind of virtue.

I see a big honking double standard here and it is entirely subjective to you whims.

Gimmee a BIG break!

I will let Perigo be your poster-boy for Objectivism. To me he gives lip-service only to Objectivist ideals while cultivating a personality cult. But, hey. We all set our own standards. If lip service and whim are good enough for you, go for it. They are not good enough for me.

Actually I'd seen him before, as I said.

What statement?

then expect me to swallow your lofty praise of Perigo as some kind of virtue.

You're disconnected from reality. I did no such thing.

I see a big honking double standard here and it is entirely subjective to you whims.

I see someone who needs to chill out, calm down, stop drinking--or start. You're way whacked out tonight. I have never seen you so detached from reality.

Let me know when you come back to Planet Earth. You're talking like a zany cultist--the cult of the anti-Perigo. Is that what this site is? For Perigo bashers? So that anyone who recognizes even a smidgen of positive in something he wrote is branded a heretic? You're an anti-idol worshipper!

If this is truly what OL is about, then come out and say it, put it in your posting guidelines that saying anything positive about anything related to Perigo will result in being banned or ridden out on a rail or some such.

I'm no fan of Perigo but your irrational foaming at the mouth over him certainly makes me think twice about it.

Shayne,

You agreed with Krauthammer when you claimed: "We have a basically anti-reality candidate who is also moving people to fervor." That's the whole point of Krauthammer's article, although you disagree with the danger this represents.

I am beginning to notice that saying nasty things gets far more attention than saying intelligent things. But this crap is boring me. I am bowing out for a while. I am getting behind in my projects and for what? Bickering over you praising Perigo?

Keeriiiiiiiiiiiiist!

That's really messed up.

The floor is yours. Have a ball.

I disagree with the implication that passion or fervor is inherently dangerous--it depends on what the passion is directed at.

My infantile amusement with Shayne's deficiencies in argument and critical thinking. I have found that most of the folks on this forum will give /provide people with "hot" or "passionate" opinions the space to develope their arguments. However, there comes a point wherein folks just throw up their hands and say "no mas".

So my poor tennis metaphor should be disregarded. lol
