The Thanks in Thanksgiving

My thanks to

1. The linemen who brought our electrical system back up after a recent power failure

2. The people who keep the water flowing and the sewers clear

3. The people who grow the food, ship it to the markets and sell it to us at prices we can afford

4. The technicians and engineers who keep the motors humming and the wheels turning

5. The doctors and nurses who save lives.

6. The honest cops who keep our homes a lot safer than they would otherwise be

7. The soldiers who fight and bleed for us. It is a shame they are so ill used by the politicians who I must certainly DO NOT thank.

8. The ordinary blokes who go to work every day producing all the goods and services we enjoy. Without them life would be poor.

9. The good will that makes a peaceful society possible. Without that life would indeed be nasty, brutish and short.

and in general my thanks to the people who do the real work.
