Writing a Book

by Dave Thomas

This is a set of seven short articles on writing a technical instruction book. This was written specifically for the Pragmatic Books publisher for prospective authors, but it contains some of the most useful information in the most concise manner I have ever come across. I was especially impressed with the hero's journey concept and the 3 readers on my shoulders idea. All seven articles are given in the same blog link above, but here they are given below separately with permalinks that go straight to the article in question:

SYWTWAB 1: So You Want to Write a Book?

SYWTWAB 2: The Hero's Journey

SYWTWAB 3: The Hero's Journey: Are You Experienced?

SYWTWAB 4: Readers on Your Shoulders

SYWTWAB 5: Finding Your Voice

SYWTWAB 6: Wrandom Writing Wrules

SYWTWAB 7: Reviewers, And How Not to Kill Them

These articles are also recorded in audio versions (somewhere around 5 minutes each on the average). Only the first 4 are available for the time being (all are podcasts from Rails Tumblecast). I will add the others as they become available.
