I feel out of date. I haven't heard any of these songs. There are artists whose name I don't rocognize. I have become a codger. One other comment why do I suspect that all the nominations for the Dixie Chicks are for their activism and not for their songs.

Interesting observation. I think so too.

I don't think they pick the BEST music, but just what's there...

Imogen Heap has been nominated for Best New Artist? Her first CD came out in 1998. This should have been Bob Dylan's year ("Modern Times" is fantastic), yet his album wasn't nominated for Album Of The Year or Record Of The Year, ridiculous. As for the Dixie Chicks, politics aside, they are a very good pop-country band. They're not any less deserving of their nominations than any of the other artists they are up against.

I always REALLY disliked Bob Dylan. Am I the only one!? Whenever I express my disdain for him, I face a hippie backlash (not that all Dylan fans are hippies).

Well, count me among the non-hippy Dylan fans. I admire Dylan for his revolutionary approach to song-writing. He was a musical pioneer and helped bridge the gap between folk and rock. I'm curious Kori, what is it that you don't like about Dylan's music? No backlash from me, Kori. Everyone is entitled to their *WRONG* opinions. :)

Honestly, if I can ever find an award that doesn't have an underlying political message to whatever it is giving an award for then I might take the time to watch. That's if I want to fall asleep. These things are so dull, last interesting thing that happened during a live musical performance was Timberlake ripping Janet Jackson's shirt off. (joke) And honestly, even that wasn't real suprising.

Welcome Jeff! In the 1960s I was into folk music in a big way. The stuff I brought was the Kingston Trio, Brothers Four. I heard about Joan Baez and brought her album and really enjoyed her. I later at my brother's urgings brought Bob Dylan. I found Dylan awful. I hated his nasally voice. Many of his songs have been done better by other artists.

The last interesting awards show that I can remember was the 1998 Grammy Awards when Ol' Dirty Bastard interrupted the presentation for Song Of The Year and Soy Bomb interrupted Bob Dylan's performance.

I'm with Mick here; nothing has topped the 1998 Grammies for entertainment. Soy Bomb made the show, as you can see here.
