Trump calls the bluff

Amazon Prime is advertising a sun screen made by Coppertone called, “Blue Lizard Australian – Face Sunscreen,” for toddlers and babies. That sounds awful.

I won’t blame William for what I am not completely sure about, but . . . four times in the last months I have linked to something he embedded into OL. I tried to copy something from his message or I tried to copy something TO his message in reply. Four times I have had my computer frozen. Four times I have continued to have problems with Microsoft Word. My computer security can find no virus on my computer, but communications from my computer to Objectivist Living are stopped. I log out and run a scan and many times I shut down and reboot. Care to comment, William? I hope the owners of OL will take a look into the problem, and I will try to not reply or read William’s messages.

My hypothetical President Ayn Rand is based on what I have learned or known about her. She cared about her family back in Russia. She cared about Israel. HER rules of engagement during war might have been a bit more harsh than Israel’s, President Trump’s, or the war college’s “Just War Theory.” Imagine Canada firing missiles into Wisconsin, a hacker using OL for vengeance!

And make no mistake about the aims of terrorist Arabs and their Palestinian cohorts. Was it 30 rockets they fired into Israel last week TRYING to kill civilians? What if Mexicans walked across our southern border with explosive back packs set to go off when they are around American civilians? It is war. President Ayn Rand would sympathize with any decent, civilized Palestinians who have lost their homes since the middle of the last century. But she would act now to stop the acts of terrorism and war! Peter

Peter is having or recalling ugly technical problems and doesn't want to blame William for the evil-eye, so I'll leave this here until I find the right place to transfer it to.

Peter,

On the OL end, there is no problem I can detect.

William sometimes uses more advanced coding to paste lists of news headlines, video transcriptions and the like, but this should not make your computer freeze.

Is your computer an older model? The new mobile-oriented direction everything is taking these days requires more firepower than before. When a computer freezes, that generally means the computer resources have been overwhelmed. Since you are also having trouble with Word, but no virus, that also indicates resource overload.

If you have an older model and work on a desktop or even laptop, I suggest you get a newer one with a more advanced processor Intel i5 or better, lots of ram (8 G minimum), etc. These computers are not expensive and you will wonder how on earth you survived once you change (if this is your problem). Also, make sure your "C" drive has space on it (about one fourth free minimum). If it gets too crowded, that could massively slow your computer down and freeze it.

Also, don't forget to constantly clean your browser cookies. If you want the easiest fix for most of this, get the old reliable Crap Cleaner: CCleaner. Both free and pro versions are great. I used the free version for years, then finally broke down and got the pro version. It's not expensive and was well worth it. But life without even the free version is too horrible to contemplate. :)

Let me know if this helps.

Thanks Michael. I went to delete cookies but Microsoft would not let me reenter my email unless I only deleted third party cookies, so I did. The only additional thing I will do at this time is not answer Williams posts. I guess my computer is around 7 years old.

And William gave a link that stated that Hamas is ready to make a deal with Israel after murdering more Israelis.

An old letter of mine, edited for clarity.

What would Ayn Rand’s philosophical character John Galt do? What would be rational and objective?” A postulated, fictional President Ayn Rand would require the big picture before answering. So what would she do in today’s real world? The basic humanity in “saving the Jews from genocide” is a cultural and historical necessity. I think Rand’s gut thinking would be, “Wouldn’t you have to?” She would defend Israel.

The “Save the Brains imperative” (that Brant expressed in 2011) is on the level of global, human evolutionary action. Because of her insistence on eliminating any science from her *egalitarian volition* concept this might be a hard sell to Ayn. She said the facts of different groups IQ’s were somehow racist and stock yard collectivism. She despised eugenics as a phony theory. In line with the upcoming Atlas Society debate, I posit a scenario. There is a debate between Ayn Rand, and the top experts in evolutionary psychology. Wolf could moderate. Would she lose the debate? Six months or a year of rethinking might bring her to their scientific position but for different reasons. She would defend Israel (not because European Israelis have an average IQ of 117) but because of its strategic importance in the Mideast. And she would defend *family.* The Jews in Israel are genetically closer to her family. She may have “family ties” in Israel. That is harsh but it is every humans gut feeling: Save my family!

To save the Jews and Arabs of Israel who create technology, is a more personal, profit motive. Would she think it rational to save physicists, creators of computer technology and medical technologists if they are on the cutting edge of human innovation? Yes, it would be in her self-interest. Is it in our strategic interest to protect the oil pipelines from the Middle East? Of course it is. At the same time our protection of Israel would provide protection for Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries. President Ayn Rand would save Israel.

Is it in our self-interest to keep our mutual defense treaty with Israel? Who else do we have in that area who would risk their lives to rescue one of America’s downed airmen? We could count on the Saudis. Who would also, unhesitatingly provide us with their airspace? If a U.S. military jet crashed landed, who would cheer the survivors? Israel. Who would butcher or hold the survivors for ransom? Iran, Hamas in Israel and Lebanon. What would the average Palestinian do if the cell phones and cameras weren’t rolling? That is in doubt.

Who shares our objective, Western values? Israel. Ayn Rand might reasonable carp about the level of Israel’s socialism, but she would save Israel. Rand always maintained it was “righteous” to shoot a looter, or a murderer, or to destroy a dictator. She said they were the human equivalent of *mad dogs*. The key for a country’s “righteous though extended use of self-defense,” would be: if it is not in my country’s “current” national security interests, what would be the cost to the United States in lives and money? Would a President Rand drone strike or incarcerate the heads of Hamas and all the Palestinian initiators of force? Probably. What do you think John Galt would do? Would Rand stand next to Francisco and John Galt on the borders of Israel with a gun in each hand, shooting the terrorists? Yes she would. Ayn Rand would defend Israel. So would I.

We should improve the “iron dome” we aided Israel to construct. It doesn’t appear to be working except with large, older rockets that invade Israeli air space. Peter Taylor

Some quotes from the speeches of Benjamin Netanyahu: Israel is the last and farthest outpost of America . . . . You don't have to read Robert Frost to know. You have to live life to know that the difficult path is usually the one less traveled, but it will make all the difference for the future of my country, the security of the Middle East and the peace of the world, the peace, we all desire . . . . . And I wish I could promise you, Elie, that the lessons of history have been learned. I can only urge the leaders of the world not to repeat the mistakes of the past . . . . We are no longer scattered among the nations, powerless to defend ourselves. We restored our sovereignty in our ancient home. And the soldiers who defend our home have boundless courage. For the first time in 100 generations, we, the Jewish people, can defend ourselves. This is why -- this is why, as a prime minister of Israel, I can promise you one more thing: Even if Israel has to stand alone, Israel will stand. end quote

This is good, excepting Rand and her Jewish "family" as entering into her rationale for Israel's support. Far too subjective - I roughly venture instead that she would state that a people or person who holds to rational standards, value in their life, is to be morally supported by the virtue of "justice". On top of this, the rule of law, freedoms of speech, etc. known nowhere else in the Arab world, better than Europe's today, I suspect. She'd say that to defend anything properly it must be done objectively, no?

Quibbling further, comparative IQ is also no argument, Peter; Rand held supreme "the mind of man", his reason and volition. Intelligence is man's distinguishing feature - but the variability in capacity of intelligence by the accident of birth of an individual is not an essential characteristic. Very much like one individual has longer legs than another. Fine for him, but what does he do with them? Was long legs his making? Can he take the credit or blame for his IQ? Rationality and the volition to use it are available to every man and woman, which is all that matters.

We only have to watch both sides in the conflict between Hamas and  Israel to witness the most glaring example of an imbalance/contrast of values in close proximity: one side would throw away their own lives and chances of happiness and their descendants' thriving - for prideful hatred and "victory" over the Jews, while the other not only defends their lives and achievements, uncompromisingly, but also tries to limit their enemies' civilian casualties and aids them on occasions.

Isn't it unsurprising that Israel is hated in parts of the Leftist (usually - while sometimes, Christian) selfless, sacrifice-loving West? "What makes you Israelis/Jews believe that you are so superior...that you selfishly preserve yourselves?!"

Hypocrisy is loathsome. Those same people in compassionate solidarity with Palestinians (who brought and bring their suffering upon themselves) - thereby extending such "suffering" with their support, would be very glad if Israel were wiped out. Expect no empathy from them then.

Thanks for BN's speech quotations.

We live in different countries but there is a shared bond of community between Rand-ians. I know some people like libertarians disparage the idea of “physical, geographic countries and governments” but the “country of the ether” that we Rand-ians live in, is real too. Expressed thoughts, sympathies, and shared values do have “weight.”

But I don’t want to go too far with that idea. The new generation of younger humans is overly linked by Face Book and other electronic media. I don’t want to get too close to people who may turn out to be like my old, bloviating, Uncle Reilly. I will go so far to say, I would rather electronically speak to like-minded people, than someone I bump into at the local supermarket. The title of this shared experience, “Objectivist Living” does describe a community of sorts.

Another news outlet is saying President Trump will turn illegals away at the border. That is rough, if you have just snuck across the country of Mexico with your kids. (two bad joke) 1/ Maybe we could give them a bottle of water first? 2/ I remember the Berlin Wall when the communist Germans shot people trying to escape. Should we shoot them like Apache Indians as they try to breach the walls? Ugh. That is heartless, so forget about it.

A bizarre story from the Times of Israel ...

Quote

An Iranian general on Monday accused Israel of manipulating weather to prevent rain over the Islamic Republic, alleging his country was facing cloud “theft,” before being contradicted by the nation’s weather chief.

“The changing climate in Iran is suspect,” Brigadier General Gholam Reza Jalali, head of Iran’s Civil Defense Organization told a press conference, semi-official ISNA news agency reported.

“Foreign interference is suspected to have played a role in climate change,” Jalali was quoted as saying, insisting results from an Iranian scientific study “confirm” the claim.

“Israel and another country in the region have joint teams which work to ensure clouds entering Iranian skies are unable to release rain,” he said.

“On top of that, we are facing the issue of cloud and snow theft,” Jalali added, citing a survey showing that, above 2,200 meters (7,218 feet), all mountainous areas between Afghanistan and the Mediterranean are covered in snow, except Iran.

Iran’s own meteorological service struck a skeptical note, however.

General Jalali “probably has documents of which I am not aware, but on the basis of meteorological knowledge, it is not possible for a country to steal snow or clouds,” said the head of Iran’s meteorological service Ahad Vazife, quoted by ISNA.

“Iran has suffered a prolonged drought, and this is a global trend that does not apply only to Iran,” Vazife said.

“Raising such questions not only does not solve any of our problems, but will deter us from finding the right solutions,” he added, in apparent reference to Jalali’s claims.

The general’s allegations of weather pilfering were not the first time an Iranian official has accused the country’s foes of stealing its rain.

Former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in 2011 accused Western countries of devising plans to “cause drought” in Iran, adding that “European countries used special equipment to force clouds to dump” their water on their continent. [...]

Carol,

Not a bad idea.

Imagine.

The story can be a thriller about a protagonist, let's call him Caysin Skylo, who works for a wind power company--an idealist in the progressive mold. One day Caysin inadvertently overhears a cartel of globalists (the details of which can be worked out later) discussing their plans to scam the world with a carbon credit scheme. But worse, he overhears them laughing about the future suicide of an eminent scientist who opposes manmade climate change and is in the way of their evil plans. As there are some very famous people in the middle of this cartel meeting, Caysin, conflicted and disillusioned, believes them.

So off he goes to warn the scientist before he can be "suicided." Except he arrives too late and witnesses the murder of the scientist. The hired thugs are dressing it up to look like a suicide. Caysin stumbles across a lady secretly witnessing the same crime and their accident causes the thugs to botch the suicide staging. This is because the scientist has been meeting with several other famous scientists who oppose manmade global warming and they emerge to see what the fuss is all about. They discover the dead body of their colleague. The thugs take off. But one of the thugs panics, returns and kills all the scientists. He tries to kill Caysin and the lady, but they escape.

The lady, let's call her Harper Hale, will turn out to be a private investigator for some small oil fields in Texas and Caysin's future love interest. Maybe she's even the daughter of the owner (Hale and Shale Corporation :) ). She's trying to build a case against the cartel, but Caysin, ever the idealist, barges in where several of the globalists are, confronts them and appeals to their sense of ideals that he has heard them preach for decades. He makes a very moving speech about saving the planet to them. They go along with him pretending to be friendly, but when he isn't looking, they try to kill him. Harper, who has been secretly following him (cussing to herself at his bullheadedness) saves him, but now the chase is on. The cartel people are after him and after this lady who, to them, appeared out of nowhere.

The cartel frames the two for the murder of the group of scientists, so, in addition to the bad guys chasing them, law enforcement the world over is after them. The stakes keep getting steeper and surprising twists and turns keep unfolding as the chase goes through its ups and downs--including the introduction of some very colorful characters. There are some gruesome deaths, explosions, gun fights, and so on. Maybe there is an inside friend in a law enforcement agency they can communicate with who helps them a bit and believes them, but who is limited by the law and the regulations of the agency.

They can even secretly meet with the lady's boss (or father), who is a good guy and who provides them with funds and resources to continue their running. He might even be a mentor figure. And there has to be an obligatory torture scene somewhere--maybe the mentor (father) turns out in a painful reversal for Harper and is actually one of the bad guys. He later tortures them both after offering his daughter part of the scheme, which she refuses. He not only wants to ingratiate himself more deeply with the leaders of the cartel, but also to get secret information out of them that he knows they have witnessed. This information will allow him to become one of the leaders of the cartel. They escape, obviously.

The cartel is going to have a huge save-the-planet event that will be broadcast to the entire world. Once it is presented, the US President and leaders of the governments the world over are going to announce the adoption of the universal carbon credit scheme as a save-the-planet initiative, and sign a treaty to formalize it all. Some climate disaster somewhere can be part of this, a disaster secretly triggered artificially by the cartel, just to add urgency to adoption of the initiative.

But Caysin has video evidence of the meeting of the cartel's leaders where they brag about their evil plans. He decides to use this event to expose them to the entire world. What's worse, the video also shows the Big Seven Oil Conglomerates (crony corporatists) are actually the ones funding the carbon credit scheme and the entire manmade climate change movement, including this event (these folks are crony corporatists, too). This is proven by statements and villainous laughter coming from the mouths of the most famous global warming people in the cartel meeting. They even joke about rationing air the globe over and seriously discuss how this can be achieved. At root, the elites on both sides are the same damn people. And they are working together to ultimately rule the world through dictatorship by technocrat.

Things develop to a heart-pounding climax, the climate disaster is foiled, some of the bad guys are killed, some disgraced in front of the whole world and some arrested on the spot as the cameras catch them doing bad things. Caysin and Harper finally kiss in the middle of the chaos swirling all around them. (The music swells. :) )

The evil father of Harper just barely escapes and lands defeated, but not broken, in a place, maybe a secret island he owns, where it is clear there will be a sequel.

As to the stealing of clouds and snow, this can be a rich metaphor running throughout the entire story--the clouds representing idealistic innocence and the snow representing the painful hard-won truth about the evil elitists. Appearance versus reality. Or whatever. Anything worth stealing. :) This can be enhanced in the settings: snowy mountain climbs, airplane flights in cloudy skies, winter in the city with snow falling, etc. The climate change folks can even have a cocktail they invent called the Snow Cloud. There can be paintings that feature clouds and snow. Etc.

That's just a brain dump I did on the spot and needs a lot of work, but whaddya think?

  :)

(btw - Not to be difficult, but I prefer not to collaborate on fiction writing at this stage. After I have a few works under my belt and selling in the market, I might be game if you are serious. I mean, why not? You do have a creative streak. Somehow, though, I don't think this particular story will be to your liking. :) )

Actually, though, to avoid comparisons with Crichton, maybe we can invent a Native American character who is part black, part Latino, female and lesbian, but who claims to commune with her ancestors through some kind of "spirit cooking" ritual. She calls herself "The Stealer of Clouds and Snow" and wears an emblem of the American eagle carrying a hammer in one claw and a sickle in another.

She becomes the face of the carbon credits scam. And her inner weakness is she actually believes her own bullshit unless it threatens her money, power and sexual perversions. (Let's make her a borderline pedophile while we're at it. :) )

She's cunning. She's an elitist darling and seduces them to do embarrassing and illegal things as they get lathered up emotionally during the "spirit cooking" rituals. She keeps videos and other proof to be used as blackmail and she used that power over them to make them do her will when they resist. No one dares kill her because she has an enormous amount of such material on the elitists that will be released the world over on the Internet on a dead man's switch, somewhat the way WikiLeaks uses an encryption code for a major haul during emergencies.

I can think of all kinds of colorful things she can do.

And this can even be a roman à clef where aspects of certain famous people of today are incorporated into a few main characters: George Soros, Barack Obama, Michael Moore, Paul Krugman, etc.. Of course, we make sure these main characters are different enough (maybe composites of several celebrities in the same character) to avoid winnable lawsuits by the disgruntled, are naughty and do really nasty things in the in the book. The gossip mills will thus guarantee sales.

At several sites they found events corresponding to pinpoint, biblical accounts like copper mines and the debris that process leaves  . . . but there were no cities as mentioned in the bible. They have come to the conclusion the “cities” were actually “tent cities.” And they have found biblical collaboration where the texts say the Israeli’s lived in tents.
