Is Reality Imitating Spin?

The phrase should be "art imitating reality," but just like wag the dog, we have reality imitating propaganda (with a spin of its own).

1. Here is the spin.

Look at the recent campaign ad against candidate for Virginia governor, Ed Gillespie. It was pulled yesterday (Oct. 31).

(Incidentally, I had to use DuckDuckGo to find the video in search results. The search functions of YouTube and Google itself are getting impossible...)

This video is also featured on Real Clear Politics Video: 'Latino Victory Fund' Ad Depicts Ed Gillespie Supporter Terrorizing Minority Children.

From the text:

The progressive 'Latino Victory Fund' (LVF) released a new ad Monday which depicts supporters of Virginia Republican gubernatorial candidate Ed Gillespie as Confederacy-supporting, truck-driving racist murderers who attack minority children.

. . .

The ad, titled "American Nightmare," shows a large pick-up truck with a Gillespie campaign sticker, a 'Don't Tread On Me' front license plate, and a huge Confederate flag on the back, chasing down a group of minority children, including a Muslim girl wearing a hijab, an African-American boy, and two young Latinos.

"Is this what Donald Trump and Ed Gillespie mean by 'the American dream?'" the ad voiceover asks...

2. Here is Reality.

This happened yesterday (Oct. 31).

Carnage on the bike path: How truck driver mowed down cyclists and pedestrians over 17 blocks in tourist hotspot in a matter of minutes before smashing into a school bus

Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, an ISIS-affiliated terrorist killed 8 people and injured a bunch more by running them over with a rented Home Depot truck. He yelled, "Allahu Akbar," after he smashed into the school bus and jumped from the truck.

From the article:

  • Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, 29, started his rampage at 3:05pm, police said, when he turned onto West St
  • He mounted a bicycle lane and drove 4,000 feet for 17 blocks, striking pedestrians and cyclists alike
  • The rampage only ended when he struck a school bus - intentionally, one witness said - near Chambers Street
  • Footage viewed by showed one person injured or being treated every 10 feet in that area
  • Along the route - a popular area for tourists - are a football stadium, soccer pitches, parks and restaurants
  • Several Argentinians and a Belgian are reportedly among the people killed or hurt in the accident

And then there's this from today:

NYC terror suspect Sayfullo Saipov brags about attack from hospital bed

There we have it.

Two stories.

One spin. And one reality.

It looks like reality imitated the spin with a twist...
