The Country Music Concert Massacre in Las Vegas

The Country Music Concert Massacre in Las Vegas

As everybody knows, a 64 year old psychopath named Stephen Paddock (who had a criminal psychopath dad) spent time and effort to arm himself to the teeth with military-grade weapons in a Las Vegas hotel and shot up the open-air audience of 22,000 people at a country music concert. As of right now, there are 58 dead and 515 injured. These numbers will probably increase.

In our fake news environment where everybody has an agenda, the atrocity is not even 24 hours old and people are soap-boxing like fiends for their particular grievances on top of the the dead.

We all will provide examples of this ickiness as we discuss this, but for right now, the best response I have seen came from the President.

He didn't blame anyone but the shooter (whose name he did not say), expressed grief and what solace he could. He called the shooting "an act of pure evil" and called for for everyone to come together like Americans always do in tragedies. He praised law enforcement and appealed to God for "the day when evil is banished and the innocent are safe from hatred and from fear."

As an initial response, I adopt that approach as my own.

We'll do the politics, agendas, snark, etc., later on in the thread. And we'll eventually learn why this happened, what is real and what isn't.

Right now, I'm grieving for people I do not know, but feel.

I'm out of words...

Tom Petty died today. (At least in the mainstream media.)

But then was resurrected. (In the mainstream media.)

Apparently, he's still pretty sick, though. He had a heart attack, was put on life support, but has been taken off.

So, today, after learning about the Mandalay Bay mass shooting, then you learn Tom Petty died, you might have gotten that uncomfortable feeling of your own mortality and vulnerability as a living being. Don't feel worse because of the misinformation. You can still feel these things and the feelings will be valid. You don't need news embellishments to feel them. Reality is bad enough at these times.

So we know Tom Petty's death was BS. As to the constantly changing facts about the Mandalay Bay mass shooting, the best strategy is to wait and see. There are no reliable sources of information left in the mainstream.

Or... I should qualify that. After things settle down, the information in the mainstream press will be reasonably reliable, but not very reliable. Why? Because the press has an audience problem and treats each new tragedy as two things that are not part of responsible reporting:

1. Each news outlet is competing against all the others to be the first to break a story. Since the release time has been pared down to zero (that means instant publication) by the Internet, lots of people simply make shit up in order to be first. It is better for them to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission. Or, better yet, if they find someone who makes shit up where they can do a CYA maneuver, they will trade that bogus shit up the chain to make it break in the mainstream in record time.

2. Most news outlets these days mix propaganda with news, often weighing heavy on the propaganda input. This has more to do with elitist crony ruling class owners than audience, but it's a major factor of distortion.

After the dust settles and the audience still keeps tuning in to watch the mainstream media, the residue will not be pretty. And that means the different news companies will go into damage control (like they always do) and will have no compunction against lying if it works. But at least they will start presenting some objective facts.

Meanwhile, a message from Tom Petty's daughter to Rolling Stone magazine (see here):

Quote

... my dad is not dead yet but your f—ing magazine is ⚡️⚡️⚡️your slim?has been pieces of tabloid dog sh*t.

. . .

This is my father not a celebrity. An artist and human being. F–k u

That feels cathartic to me amid all this grief. At least a purveyor of misinformation caught in the act is a correct bad guy to punch at a time like this.

I don't begin to understand how only semi-automatic fire can inflict nearly 600 casualties. You cannot own or possess fully automatic weapons without a federal permit typically given to registered firearms' dealers. I think the modern military .223 in automatic mode only fires a three-round burst. Two shooters? Maybe the "shooter" wasn't the real shooter. Next they will determine his exact time of death. It will also be determined if his hands are residued. If he was truly a suicide. But all those guns in his other residence almost certainly means he was an active killer with intent to murder as opposed to being forced into it.

You won't be a multi-millionaire long going into a casino with 20 - 30,000 bucks. That's a gambling addiction that needs 10s of millions to support.

Lots of info to come and that's enough spec. from me.

Brant,

From reading and watching news reports all over the place (for an example of one, see here, but be advised this is WaPo), this guy was worth over 2 millions dollars and owned 4 residences. He had 23 guns in his hotel room and had converted some of them to automatic weapons. I think someone said he built the tripods or stands he used for the guns, too. And, if I understood correctly, he had installed hallway cameras so he would be aware when the police were arriving.

Whatever the details, he was meticulous. This is what he wanted to do and he wanted to do it as competently as he could within the short time he would be pulling it off. He did not expect to survive since he killed himself.

I just saw Mayor Carolyn Goodman (Las Vegas mayor) being interviewed. She had a good name for him.

Scumbag.

I want to say something personal, too.

This is the weirdest story I have seen of a mass shooting.

There are way too many things that don't make sense.

My inner conspiracy theorist is screaming at me to get out.

:)

Let me just show you a taste of what I mean, and it's only one little taste. I have a lot more things I could talk about, but I prefer to wait. Let's see if I resist for long... :)

I saw the following video because Scott Adams said he thought it was interesting.

This doesn't mean much except there was not good blood between brothers. Maybe this brother of the shooter knows more than he said, maybe not. His body language suggests it.

In fact, when I first saw this interview way earlier (in a news report without the body language commentary), it seemed really off to me. In my first impression, I felt that the guy did not seem distraught, but snarky and sarcastic instead. Smiling at times. I'm not on very good terms with my own brother, but I would be devastated if something like this with him and I am sure for the reverse he would be, too.

My guess, my speculation is that the shooter's brother is into something he doesn't want scrutinized and he's more worried about that than his brother. I'm not suggesting anything related to the shooting. But since the father was a bank robber... you know... maybe there are things the progeny keep private for a reason...

I speculate...

I'm not the only one and I'm in great company. From Breitbart:

Gowdy on Vegas Shooting: ‘Difficult to Believe That a Single Person Could Have Done This Without Detection’

From the article:

Quote

Monday on Fox News Channel’s “The Story,” Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) offered his thoughts on the investigation of the Las Vegas mass shooting a night earlier that left at least 59 dead and 527 injured.

Gowdy told host Martha MacCallum he was skeptical that Stephen Paddock, the individual thought to be responsible for the shooting, could have acted without at least one person identifying his behavior as suspicious. The South Carolina Republican predicted in coming days he will be proved correct.

“It’s an incredible level of premeditation that you don’t ordinarily see,” Gowdy said. “And it is difficult to believe that a single person could have done this without detection. And so, I hope that what comes out of this is people – you know, lots of crime is prevented because a non-law enforcement officer says something. The weapons and whether or not it was altered to become fully automatic and the premeditation of picking a certain hotel room. I think we’re going to find someone along the way was suspicious they should have turned that suspicion into a phone call to law enforcement. It’s an incredible amount of premeditation to not go detected.”

The brother of the dead man said he was a fix it guy for many years and that he looks for answers. Thats what I see playing out. Hes reeling with the possibilities knowing he will never truly come to understand anything that will help to explain his brothers actions. I also see the sibling is unable/unwilling to share straight forward emotions with the public/strangers. Its so complicated hes simply uncomfortable dealing with a problem that cant be fixed.

My guess, my speculation is that the shooter's brother is into something he doesn't want scrutinized

The guy was smart to get out in front of this and speak directly to reporters. Imagine the reaction if he holed up. This whole thing was foisted on him and he doesn't like it.

Sounds like an ordinary reaction to me otherwise he could have refused comment. And that too would lead to speculation.

Heres a story line. The dead man was a recluse who had money and debt. He had no meaningful relationships (forget about the girlfriend/brother). He had the means to accomplish mayhem. He was a problem solver. For all I know Paddock had a twisted relationship in regard to his father (hero/bad guy) held deep beliefs about how "society" treated the hero, and due to personal circumstances he cared not to remedy and his anger issues he decided to act out on humanity.

Its all about what cant be seen. Theres is as much unknown as what is known.

He gambled, he lost.

Thats more consideration than is deserved.

59 dead.....

Here's another speculation from a person who was Paddock's neighbor and used to drink beer with him. He called in to Michael Savage (who, incredibly, is for partial gun control with some automatic firing devices).

This caller, an ex-Marine, thinks Paddock was set up as a patsy. He said he doesn't want to say that for sure because he doesn't want to sound like a conspiracy theory fruit cake, but he thinks there's no way the guy he knew did that. There's just too much that doesn't add up to the caller, especially the lack of flashes coming from the hotel windows.

Also, politics-wise, according to the caller, Paddock liked Trump.

If you prefer to read, here's a report by Paul Joseph Watson about this call:

On the politicizing angle, Rush Limbaugh mentioned something quite insightful.

This is not about the individual lady, Hayley Geftman-Gold, who made the hateful post. It's a systemic problem.

(Did I just hear someone try to avoid saying "systemic racism" or "systemic bigotry"? Hmmmmm?... :)

CBS Fires Lawyer Who Said She Had No Sympathy for Repugnant Republican Concertgoers

From the transcript:

Quote

Her posts have now been deleted. The Daily Caller was first to report this, and they say she now sincerely regrets her indefensible and shameful post and she is deeply sorry for diminishing the significance of every life affected. You know, fine. Everybody apologizes. What was her gut reaction? What was her instinctive reaction? At the time she posted 50 people were dead and over 400 had been wounded, and this woman, you talk about politicizing things, this woman, a CBS lawyer, senior vice president executive, starts talking how they deserved it. They voted for Trump. They don’t care about gun control. A bunch of gun-toting Republicans themselves. They don’t care about people. They deserved it.

My point about Hayley Geftman-Gold is she’s not alone. She just happened to be the first to post it where somebody saw it. But I’m telling you the extreme insanity that exists on the left is filled with people that had that reaction. These are the people that are corrupting everything they touch. These are the people trying to politicize everything in our culture and in our country. And these are the people that really harbor an almost incalculable degree of hate.

They think they are sweetness and light and that we conservatives and Republicans are the ones who are hatemongers, but these people are in a world all their own, where not only do they hate, but they have been poisoned and infected by it, and it governs everything they do. And their hate has been on high burner ever since the election.

So she did say what she really was feeling. She couldn’t wait to get it out there, what she was really thinking. But I want you to know she’s not alone. There are many more than you would believe who harbor almost identical sentiments as this woman shared on her Facebook page.

I want to point out something else, too.

Obviously, some people on the right jumped the gun to say crazy hateful political things about this massacre. But they are on the fringe.

Hayley Geftman-Gold worked as a vice president for CBS, which is about as mainstream as you can get. She got caught for her impulsiveness, but how many others at CBS feel exactly as she does? Their first impulse in a tragedy is to demonize those who think differently than they do. That's spitefulness of the first order and it's blind. As first impulse, the professional "victim-defenders" (superhero legends in their own minds) don't even see as victims people who are laying dead and maimed with goddam bullet holes in them. I won't even talk about CNN, NYT and other mainstream news companies...

Like I alluded to above, these are the same people who constantly wax self-righteous about "systemic racism." Hypocrisy is hypocrisy, but jeez... These people take take their intense bigoted hatred to new heights of unambiguous transparency.

Nazi mentality, anyone? Hmmmm?... :)

In a press conference I just saw on Hannity, the sheriff said the shooter did not film himself as several news reports speculated. There were two cameras in food carts in the hallway and one camera inside the room on the peep hole in the door, pointed to the hall.

The alterations on the gun were rifle attachments called bump stocks. I had never heard of these until this shooting, so I skimmed over some stuff on Google. Apparently, they replace the stock of a normal rifle and use the entire rifle's recoil after shooting a bullet to pull the trigger again. Here's a video that shows how it works (with some blah blah blah about the manufacture and cheap-feel quality, including the fact that the version in the video is only a hundred dollars).

The sheriff said the actual firing time during the massacre was only 11 minutes. It took a little longer for the SWAT team to get there, but they waited because the firing had stopped. The officer who got shot by Paddock was shot through the closed door during the operation of cops evacuating the hotel room by room. But Paddock did kill himself before SWAT stormed the room.

The latest is a speculation from the sheriff himself that Paddock may have been radicalized. Once again, this is a Paul Joseph Watson story on Infowars, but with video of the sheriff:

Breaking: Sheriff Says Las Vegas Shooter Could Have Been “radicalized”

Here is a Drudge screenshot just now:

10.03.2017-21.42.png

The link goes to PJW's story above.

Alex Jones, who own Infowars where Paul Joseph Watson works, has been in full metal jacket meltdown overdrive ever since he received a tip from one of his inside sources that there was a lot of Islamic and Antifa literature in the shooter's room when SWAT stormed in. Now the sheriff is speculating in public...

Stay tuned...

As throw-away snark, if it is found that ISIS is involved in the Las Vegas mass shooting, as ISIS itself has been shouting to the four winds since the beginning, this would make the mainstream press and the FBI look really dumb or corrupt.

As lots of people are saying, it took the FBI and mainstream press a few hours at the most to determine "definitively" that Islamic terrorism was not involved in the shooting--meanwhile, the FBI has been working for over a year to determine if Russia impacted the presidential election and still there is nothing conclusive.

I heard the report of this tragedy first on local station, Radio 702, quickly adding "ISIS claims responsibility". Tuning into CNN it came as no surprise that no mention of such claims were made, and not made days later . In another country may be we knew a little more and sooner than many Americans did. Even Russia Today carried the ISIS report. Why CNN, those societal engineers, withheld this fact is pretty obvious to long observers. Was (and is) the claim unsubstantiated? Right, but no matter what, any responsible media owes viewers all the information they have at hand, not to rush to make moral evaluations of hard news, or to weigh the imagined consequences of information on the people.

Does anyone really expect earth shattering revelations? I heard the FBI spokesman say "at this point" in the investigation. Thats responsible. Theres a hue and cry for more information.

http://nypost.com/2017/10/02/fbi-las-vegas-shooter-had-no-connection-to-terror-groups/

https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/inside-the-criminal-mind/201710/las-vegas-and-the-myth-the-out-character-crime

"Personalities reveal themselves over time and, eventually, we discover what the context is with respect to the crime at issue. Rarely, if ever, is it a case of a “good guy” suddenly gone bad. Undoubtedly, as the investigation proceeds, more information will come to light revealing now unknown aspects of the Las Vegas shooter’s personality and motives. And we will see that it was in fact “in character.”"

I cant wait to find out what the shooters brother is hiding. Or how the neighbor who thought the shooter was a straight arrow could have been so wrong.

This is better than Murder She Wrote and Bosch. Thats a high bar too. Like Monday morning quarterbacks though, it doesnt change the result.

You can't read anything in the news these days without seeing a leftie grandstand about gun control and dance in the blood of the victims of this mass shooting.

Well, here's a shocking admission.

I'm not against gun control.

But I only agree if it follows a specific sequence:

First: Disarm all the governments of the world.

Second: Disarm all the bad guys.

Third: Only after the first two are disarmed, then it's OK to disarm law abiding citizens.

:)

So, just to start, how does one disarm all the governments of the world?

Good question.

Ideas, anyone?

:)

I can almost hear the lefties say: That's not serious.

I look at them on their soapboxes preaching we have to disarm law abiding citizens, but they never worry about disarming governments and bad guys, and I wonder who is serious.

A lot of people are calling the second interview with Eric Paddock painful, confusing, etc. Oddly enough, I have more sympathy for him now than I did after his first interview.

He's hiding something for sure, but I bet it is something like illegal activities he does for obtaining wealth. His allegation that his brother made his money from slot machines is just not believable.

What is believable is that a casino life is a great way to launder money.

But I speculate...

My impression is that this guy had nothing to do with the shooting and didn't even know about it. He's not surprised his brother did it even though he doesn't understand it. That's weird, but if his brother was into some deep illegal shit and he knew about it, I can grok it.

I feel he loved his brother and is terribly hurt by both his brother's death and and the people who his brother killed and injured.

He doesn't seem to be aware of how this will affect his own future yet. He sounds like he is still in shock.

I'm not sure he's a good person, but I feel for him.

You know, on second thought, I was trying to be cute by too great a measure.

I don't support gun control at all.

:)

However, the image of a bunch of lefties going to Kim Jong-un, Bashar al-Assad, Robert Mugabe, Nicolás Maduro, etc., and telling these dictators they have to disarm their governments because of universal gun control is precious.

:)

Here's an update from Clark County Sheriff, Lombardo. He seems skeptical (go to 21:13 in the video) and now I do too, that the shooter was acting alone...based on the amount of rifles, ammo and other material found at the hotel and his home. It's not inconceivable others would be joining him (why so many rifles) in the room? Add to that how could he get all his supplies up to the room without help from others? ...inside/ outside help.

Use the "killer" as a patsy? Tie him up, arm up, kill him, open fire, scram?

Atheist Muslim fascist terrorists who don't believe in any "Him!"? No martyrs those guys. Find your virgins on earth!
