I switched from the news at 6:30 from CBS, to ABC, to NBC and all of them were gleefully propagandizing “Russia, Russia, Russia - collusion, collusion, collusion” as if a meeting with a Russian lobbyist aided in the Old Hickory Clinton loss in the Presidential election.

Will that resonate with Americans? If I, Sheriff Andy Taylor were running for mayor of Mayberry and a city council member said, “Psst! Sheriff Andy? I know something about your opponent for mayor, Otis Campbell. He’s not only a drunk, as you know because he sleeps it off in your jail, but he also pees in the alley behind Floyd Lawson’s Drug Store nearly every night.” What would you do?

In other news a huge chunk of ice weighing a trillion tons and the size of the state of Delaware has finally broken off, and people on the beaches are moving their umbrellas back to avoid the inevitable tidal wave.

I just turned Rush on. The left has had “nothing” since the election. But as I noticed the major networks except for Fox are in gleeful, lockstep, propaganda mode, and it is hard to tell those networks as in any way different. And after that breaking news we return you to The Young and The Restless Days of Our Lives which are Bold and Beautiful and tied in with The Hollywood Connection.

Who is the leader of the Democratic Party? It is the networks.

No it isn't. It's based on observing the behavior of people who deify Popper. There are a bunch of 'em. Popper has managed to become the center of quite an elitist cult.

Michael

I simply read what he wrote.  He correctly identified the central issue of scientific  justification (of theory or hypothesis)  as falsification.  No matter how many positive experimental results one gets, one cannot establish a hypothesis based on a quantified ALL statement in the hypothesis.  No matter how many black, crows one  sees one cannot establish that all crows are black.  However one albino crow  blows up the universally quantified assertion.

Popper thus separated himself from the Logical Positivists  (among whom wa Ernst Mach,  a top of the line physicist).

Like I said it is an exercise in modus tollens.

Peter,

The elitists own most of the mainstream media. Remember that old saw that it was Jews who controlled the media? That's a smokescreen to protect the guilty. It's elitists who own it--the very same elitists who believe people who are not like them are the equivalent of livestock. That means you. That means me. Moooo... That even means President Trump, who they used to think of as their pet pig.

The elitists lost their power, but power is part of their identity. That means this is the most serious thing in their superficial puny little souls. They want their power back like a kid wants his candy and truth is no object. So they run their mainstream media on all cylinders to get it back. And since the journalists for those organizations have their own lust for power, they have no problem with being complicit. Like I said, truth is no object. The game--even for the news media--is power. Influence to get power.

I have been among journalists as an insider, not working for the news, but drinking (getting drunk) with them as a regular. Day after day after day. For years. They truly believe that they make and break people--that public figures only exist by grace of their acquiescence. And I have been among elitists day after day for years as a classical music darling.

So I know these people. I'm not one of them, but I know them.

These elitists (and journalists) all want their power back or, in the sewers of their souls, they cannot exist as them anymore.

To hell with them.

Believe me, most average Americans are getting really fed up with the sore loser attitude re the election of President Trump. If these idiots don't stop, a royal ass-kicking is on the way. I don't know what form it will take (I hope it will be a Convention of the States), but these particular elitists will hate it and hurt like they have not hurt in a long time. I called the Trump election based on this exact knowledge of average Americans. And I'm calling this ass-kicking of elitists.

I'll bet crows on it, too.

nothing that popper has proposed  is  distorted or extraordinary.   How could he become the focal point of a -cult-?  I never heard of a Popper Cult and I have read his stuff over a long period of time.  There is one unusual  thing about Popper.  He is one of the few philosophers that genuine physical scientists take seriously.

Open Society Foundation, for one. That organization, based on Popper's ideas, does damage all over the world and with funding from George Soros, too.

We also used to have a cultish Popperian post on OL, Daniel Barnes. I would call both him and his pal, Gregory Nyquist (of the Ayn Rand Contra Human Nature fame), Popperian cult members in the same manner an Objectivist fundamentalist would be for Ayn Rand. Daniel used to frequent Popper sites and tried to get me to join them way back when. But when I looked them over, they seemed cultish at the time (once again, in the same manner as O-Land fundies).

A Google search would probably help you in your doubts.

Oh.  I see now.  You are referring to Popper's political writings.  I was referring to his epistemological approach to the physical sciences which promotes the notion of falsification of hypotheses.   I paid no attention to Popper's political ideas as they were of no interest to me.

Do you have any issues with Popper's  approach of making falsification the main strategy in science as opposed to verification.   On this Popper is totally sound. No finite set of verifications or corroborations will prove a hypothesis to be true.  But  one sound falsification  demolishes the hypothesis as a general assertion about reality.  Popper is dead on right about this.  But this is nothing new.  This is simply applying modus tolens full force to a hypothesis. Popper took this tactic  to oppose the Logical Positivists who believe the scientific theories can be fully corroborated by factual findings.  Not so.

There is no Cult of Popper  concerning his scientific epistemological  works.

Who is the jalapeno popper you gringos are talking about?

Michael warned the media:  If these idiots don't stop, a royal ass-kicking is on the way. end quote

The President cannot use laws to thwart the right to free speech and to a free press. He can’t claim wartime censorship. What he can do is deny them access to him, his cabinet and his advisors, on a personal level. He can circumvent them with tweets and press conferences and hammer down the point that they are a propaganda machine. He can hire White House staff to document their evil deeds. The cooperating co-propagandists at CBS, ABC, NBC, MSNBC, and CNN should be exposed. President Trump should tell the people of America, if you want to hear me unfiltered by their “spin” then tune into Fox News or Rush Limbaugh. President Trump could have an enemies list that patriotic Americans should avoid.

In short:

Cut into their access to stories. Let Fox break the news.

Deplete their viewership, as they post phony headlines in cahoots with each other.  Get Fox to have a late night show to make fun of the Communists. Pressure Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel to be fair. Hammer away at the communist with deformed ears on the CBS late night show.

Tell Americans about them in detail. The left wing press is very close to being a Nazi propaganda machine.

Bob,

Actually, I do. I vastly prefer "one of the main strategies" among several main strategies.

The falsification thing is too present oriented and the Popper cultists who follow it as a religion tend to be very poor brainstormers or inventors or other benefactors of humanity, even and especially when using science.

In other words, they're pretty good at disproving things, unless these are things in the past (the big bang comes to mind :) ), the present or distant future, but they're not too good at building new things.

I don't have much beef with the falsification process for debunking 100% predictability of a proposition about the near future. I do have a problem with it as a replacement for truth--for observations about the present and the past, and even the distant future.

And I have a problem with the Popper cultists, including the epistemological ones like I said (and like you, once again, ignored :) ).

Wolf,

This was in Brazil.

Both police blotter journalists and directors. All media types (paper, magazine, TV and radio).

For some reason, I remember one Homeric bender with a dude (Celso) who kept accusing me of being a member of the CIA. Man, were we drunk and it got nasty. Then, of all things, the Soviet basketball team showed up in the bar and got into the middle of the bickering and fighting. They gave as good as they got. The next day, when my friend Celso wasn't looking, I swapped out his glass of pinga (clear Brazilian rum) for a glass of water. When he went to take a drink, fully expecting the pleasure of the alcohol bite, he got bland water instead. So he promptly spit it out all over the floor and cussed for 5 minutes. The basketball team dudes had to get on a plane, but one of them left a wooden saint icon for me with the bartender and a message saying he enjoyed himself. :)

Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban... I was never in a newsroom that didn't have a few or a handful of Jews, one even was owner-publisher of a financial weekly! They do get around in the media circles. Clearly, something nefarious is afoot by Jews.

This Time We Liberals Have Totally Got Trump. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. By Kurt Schlichter Posted: Jul 13, 2017 12:01 AM: As the Grand Marshal of the Supreme Court assembles the posse of Bailiffs, Trumpeters and Attendants, the Learned Scribes are generating the Official Law Warrant of Justice to arrest Donald Trump Jr. for High Treason, which they will do after marching to the White House on a carpet of rose petals strewn by Fair Maidens.

Or something. Whatever. The Menscian media is in a spazz yet again. Boy oh boy, maybe this time we can overturn the results of the election…

And I admit I almost didn't think it could happen, but things have gotten stupider. Somehow the media and their enablers decided that the worst thing in the world is for someone to be willing to hear negative information about a political opponent from a foreign government, which wasn't a bad thing until Trump’s son tried it unsuccessfully. Apparently Putin’s cunning spies work through chunky music industry gadflies and third-tier lawyers and don’t actually have any dirt to give. Who knew?

But hey, collusion or something. Whatever. It’s almost pointless to mention the actions of Hillary Clinton's cats paws regarding Paul Manafort and the Ukrainian government, or further back, Ted Kennedy’s anti-Reagan conspiracy, because neither counts as this is all posturing and lies. If Hillary thought Lenin’s embalmed corpse could have provided dirt on Trump, she’d have been in Red Square doing CPR.

Surprise! This stupidity drops right after Trump crushes it with a speech in Poland and right after James Integrity Boy Comey was revealed to have been playing the kind of classified materials games he let Clinton slide on. Yeah, yeah, intent. Whatever.

It’s all about liberals retaking power and trying to make sure we normals never get a say in our own governance again. Make no mistake, there are plenty of nominal Republicans who would be happy for that to happen. According to David Brooks, we peasants lack sufficient sandwich savvy for self-determination.

None of this is about right and wrong. It's about power - their power, and ensuring we have none.

Let me break down how this is going to end. Liberals are going to gobble yet another Treason Viagra and the hot chick of success is gonna let them buy her a pricy dinner and then smile and say “Let's just be friends.”

Again. I would almost feel sorry for them if they weren’t a bunch of evil, aspiring fascists who want to turn all of America into Evergreen College.

. . . . I feel stupider watching CNN, so I don't. In fact, a lot of people aren't watching it. CNN is getting beaten out by Yogi Bear, a cartoon which provides more reliable information than Fredo Cuomo and the rest generate. In fact, Yogi Bear has had to retract exponentially fewer stories than CNN. Let me say that again. A cartoon bear whose entire life focus is stealing picnic baskets from tourists is a more popular and more accurate source of information than Cable News Network.

But memes! Whatever.

Do you think this latest nonsense is going to stop Trump, by which I mean the people who support him? Do you think the normal people in America are thinking “Gosh, a campaign tried to get negative information about its opponent? I'm shocked and stunned and emotionally ruined. I don't know where to turn or what to do. I guess I better support a bunch of liberal fascists who want to take my money and my power and my guns and who boo God.

Whatever. Now Tim Kaine is channeling his inner Louise Mensch, who seems to be channeling the voices in her head, and is screeching “TREASON!!!” But we should be forgiving because Tim has an excuse. He's an idiot.

The liberals are losing and they're going to keep losing. They're going to lose in 2018, despite the Republicans’ best efforts to fail. And in 2020 we’ll get four more years of Donald Trump and I'm going to laugh during every minute of it. Let all those latter-day converts to McCarthyism working as associate sociology professors at Gumbo State and who drive old Corollas with fading bumper stickers that read “Nuclear Freeze Now” keep tweeting “TREASON” in all caps. You go, girls.

Again, whatever.

Let's assume every single thing the liberals postulate is absolutely true. Let's say Donald Trump, Jr., knew that the Russian government was using a crew of goofuses to try to feed him negative information on Felonia von Pantsuit and he went to get it and found out they didn't have any, which is a miracle because if there is one thing in the world there's a lot of, it's negative information about Hillary Clinton.

So what?

This was never some sort of rule acquiring you be fussy about where you dig up your dirt, and to the extent Clinton didn't already break this fake rule, she would've in a heartbeat if she had been presented the opportunity. I don't think I'm going to give up my freedom to honor your bogus principle du jour.

It won't work. Nobody's getting arrested, nobody’s getting impeached. You liberals suck and you're going to lose. Again.

Agreed.

I have been having trouble with my computer. A message came up that I needed to call Microsoft at a certain number with a voice telling me to do the same. After running my antivirus and restarting three times I think I have it fixed. Back to checking. The last two times I called a number I got an Indian fellow and the next time an English sounding young lady. both were scams.

Fascism is the base of all anti-freedom ideologies some of which devolve all the way down into communist or Nazi totalitarianisms. This includes socialism.

Fascism is political force. Classical Fascism a la Italy in the 1920s into the 40s is ideological off that base too.

In this most basic sense fascism hardly qualifies as an ideology. We can say this too about freedom. Fascism is nothing to do with freedom nor freedom with fascism.

If a government is justified through practical need then force must obtain to some extent. But if the government is dedicated to freedom--its establishment and maintenance (to moving toward freedom)--it transcends fascism through application of the political-rights philosophy of individualism. This is justified because fascism needs to be transcended for government is a natural happening of human social existence. There it is here; there is is there: here, there, everywhere. The sequence is family, tribe, government.

If you can find anarchy you'll merely find a family without a tribe or a tribe without a government. Or, to put it another way, governance, governance, governance. Anarchy and governance are not compatible. Anarchy is one alone in his truncated existence. He has no social existence.

There is only one philosophy of freedom and it's a combination of moral and political. There are a multiplicity of philosophies of everything else.

Fascism is wrong and freedom is right. To say fascism is "left" or "right" or both obscures the issues. But if you do accept Bob's statement as such you'll be stuck in non-freedom land and non-thinking-things-through-properly land--that's because freedom gets buried in the semantic superfluousness.

Alan Rinzler: In terms of changes in the book business, just to pull back a little, when I started in the business it was kind of a boy’s club. It was a Jewish boy’s club, too. All of those conspiracy theories are true. The book business has always been controlled by Jews. The only non-Jew around was Nelson Doubleday. And he hired a lot of Jews. Alfred Knopf and Bennet Cerf and Richard Simon—and all of those guys. And they were smart, funny guys who were hustlers. They were making a living doing crosswords and cookbooks and golf books—whatever. They were not literary giants. And they were not in it of the art, although they managed to publish some great books and those hearken back to the golden age of the book business. Also there were practically no women in 1962 in any position except for secretaries. First of all, you don’t have to be Jewish anymore, although it helps...

Andy Ross: One of the things I’ve thought about is that I’m wondering how much literary fashion has to do with the social make-up of the editorial. Most of the iconic literary writers of the 60s and 50s were Jewish men and that was when most of the editors were men...
