They have a brain mass to body mass ratio greater than that of any mammal on land or in the sea. If we ever can grasp how octopus think and solve problems we will be ready to great aliens from the farthest reaches of the Milky Way. They are so different from us, yet they can solve problems in a way that suggests intelligence. We can relate to the higher apes because we are their near cousins.
