I have twice been on a tour of the WWII era USS Bonhomme Richard when I was a young teen if I remember correctly, and I think it was in California. I can’t remember which shipyard but it may have been the San Francisco ship yard. It was old but I don’t remember it being in bad shape or smelly. A sailor gave the tour. The one that is on fire right now and in the news is the later version with the same name. Everyone pronounced “Bonhomme” in a French way but “Richard” was said just like an American person’s name and not in the French way, “Rish-ard.”
