There’s always a lot of insults and name-calling going on in politics. President Trump is good at it—he is able to crystallize his opponents with memes and labels that stick. Hillary was called ‘Crooked Hillary’ and it summed her up nicely. Trump calls Biden ‘Sleepy Joe,’ which to me seems to be an upgrade over his other moniker—“Creepy Joe.”

Hillary made a big mistake when she smeared Trump supporters as ‘deplorables.’ This did not help her win over anyone right of center. Joe Biden, not to be outdone by Hillary, downgraded Trump supporters to ’the dregs of society.’

These are all mild insults compared to the smears that gush from the mouths and pens of the Left. They routinely call Trump and his supporters ‘racists,’ ‘white nationalists,’ ‘bigots,’ the ‘KKK,’ and ‘Nazis.’ This kind of invective only underlines a fact: The radical socialist Left has no argument. After all, socialism goes against reason, logic, human nature, and nature itself. History has proven its failure time and time again.

There’s a reason the left uses words such has ‘racist’ or ‘Nazi’ without any evidence whatsoever. Those words are meant to dehumanize opponents. Once people are stripped of humanity, they become ‘monsters’ and it then becomes acceptable to use violence against them. The Catholic Church once used this tactic to torture and murder Protestants. They simply labeled them has ‘heretics,’ which made them synonymous with demons. Eradicating demons is a good thing.

Being against socialism, globalism, and open borders are positions now seen as ‘racist’ by many on the left. Trump supporters are the new heretics. It’s why we see vicious attacks against people wearing MAGA hats.

It’s why we see bike locks used to crack skulls during protests. It’s why we now see milkshakes being thrown. Tossing them at people you disagree with has become the new trend among the left. While not dangerously violent, getting hit by one is definitely messy and humiliating. Burger King even indirectly virtue signaled for their use—and that’s shameful.

As the next presidential election approaches, I expect the divide to widen and the name-calling to intensify. Sticks and stones may break bones and words can sometimes lead toward using sticks and stones. I’d rather stick with rational debate.

The dream died, except in the febrile imagination of the Democrats, who launched an unfounded attack on the attorney general’s integrity. The turn of the tables has been exquisite and complete. The idea that anyone ever nominated by a serious American political party would collude with a foreign power to rig a presidential election is insane. But in their desperation and denial after the unimaginable victory of someone pledged to clean out the entire political class that has ruled America since the Reagan years, the Democrats paid $10 million for a false dossier on Trump, corrupted and politicized the intelligence services and the FBI, set up an echo chamber of self-verification with the national media Trump had already reviled as dishonest, and provoked the creation of a special counsel to look into Trump–Russian collusion. The Republican congressional leaders sat on their hands to see if the leader none of them had supported would be impeached, and the Democrats and their scripted media choristers smugly carped and waited like noisy crocodiles for their victim to be reduced to inert helplessness. Guess what.

Mueller did his best, with a character assassination of the president from selected Star Chamber testimony of no legal relevance and an attempt to pull the pin on a damp grenade by citing a series of legally innocuous facts and declaring an inability to exonerate for obstruction, though collusion with Russia was hopeless. Mueller knew that that was not his brief — no one had asked him to do anything except state whether or not there was valid reason to impeach the president. His spurious and cowardly recitation of legal fineries that fulfill none of the requirements for obstruction combined with a sorrowful statement of inability to exonerate on that charge is, in fact, an exoneration. It was the best Mueller, a slab-faced Trump-hater who assembled a famished wolf-pack of pathological Trump-haters as his investigative team, could do: He failed the Democratic lynch mob because he couldn’t find any evidence, and he failed the country in not producing a fully honest and impartial report. The Democrats are left at a crossroads: keep swinging like punch-drunk prizefighters lashing out when they hear the bell of a passing streetcar, or abandon the impeachment ship while there is still room in the lifeboats.

The president has won his spurs with his own party. While they waited as mute and spineless spectators, he wrestled the Russian-collusion leopard off his back and slew it. He is right to stonewall the Democratic House committees on their much-touted blizzard of subpoenas. The porcine judiciary chairman, Jerry Nadler, a virulent enemy of Trump for 30 years, splutters with righteousness, but he has no legal right nor the decisive political support to start all over again after Mueller has come up empty-handed. President Truman determined in reference to the House Un-American Affairs Committee, and President Eisenhower stated in reference to the various Joseph R. McCarthy hearings, that they would not tolerate any federal executive-branch employee’s being subpoenaed about any advice they gave the president, that they would accept and honor no such subpoenas, and that anyone who responded to such subpoenas would be fired at once. This was established pre-Watergate practice and is sound law. No one should imagine that Nadler is more virtuous than McCarthy or the other red-baiters.

. . . . The response of the executive branch to this threat has evolved and become more resourceful, like immunity to an affliction after recurrences of it. Where President Nixon spared the country the agony after it had made probably terminal inroads, President Reagan in the Iran-Contra affair, a minor matter involving a popular president near the end of his term, with plausible deniability, just said “I don’t recall,” and it passed. President Clinton, as Whitewater was transmogrified into the red dress and likely perjury to a grand jury, fought it out, and his opponents got a 50–50 split on one count, but did not come close to removal. Now, finally, comes a president armed with a decisive legal and political advantage who is happy to meet his accusers and massacre them if they charge. If Speaker Pelosi can’t restrain the far-left imbeciles from voting impeachment, they will not even hold the Democrats in the Senate. There is no evidence to convict this president of anything, and the country will be outraged.

The Democrats have painted themselves into a corner. They must put up or shut up, impeach or back down. The president has called their bluff and the game is about to end, either an embarrassing defeat for the Democrats or political annihilation. Pelosi is no galvanizing leader, but she is a cagey veteran. She has tried to warn her more-furious caucus members of what they are getting into but is obviously having trouble controlling her partisans. I assume contemplation of what awaits will induce the House Democrats to opt for a trip to the woodshed over the political gallows, but it would be impetuous to bet a five-cent cigar on their collective judgment. Their attempt at regicide has failed completely; it’s still a bit of a long shot, but they might just manage suicide, not from justified conscientious shame, but out of witless antagonism. One way or the other, the papier-mâché Damoclean sword of impeachment will disintegrate just as the prominent Democrats who grievously abused their offices in trying to destroy Trump get ready for their own trials. Both sides come to bat in this legal game, and the Democrats have struck out.

I wonder what life would be like if we had “stayed with England” like Canada and Australia? Are we freer than countries affiliated with Great Britain today? I suppose so. So home, home on the range, and “Give me liberty or give me death!” But England and its colonies didn’t turn out so bad.

I have been watching “The Crown” and “Victoria” on our public broadcasting channel. On “Victoria” some episodes were from 1848, and England seemed more civilized than we freer people did back then. What a weird dilemma. I don’t know. If we wanted a monarch in our country’s history could we do better than Vicky or Eliza? Maybe not.

CNN. Updated May 30, 2019 Carrie Sheffield. Despite spin from congressional Democrats (and Republican Rep. Justin Amash), special counsel Robert Mueller was not secretly gunning for impeachment in his statement on Wednesday. And it would be divisive for the nation and a boon to our global competitors if Democrats choose to hobble our national agenda with superfluous, partisan impeachment.

During his press conference, Mueller said that Attorney General Robert Barr acted in "good faith" in his handling of the report. He also said that he was resigning from the Justice Department and returning to private life. Clearly, Mueller is moving on and it's time for us to move on as a country, too. We should focus on stopping Russian intervention in the 2020 elections. Parsing a non-convincing argument about a hypothetical obstruction case -- one not definitively outlined by Mueller and that the Department of Justice has completed -- is a waste of time.

Former George W. Bush White House spokesman Ari Fleischer accurately characterized Mueller's statement and overall behavior in a tweet: "Mueller is the anti-Comey. He wants no PR ... And (on Wednesday) he made no new news..."

Mueller's statement and the reactions to it were a continued example of a political Rorschach test: People who despise the President saw it as further ammunition and supporters saw absolute vindication. Regardless of one's views, the political reality is that House Democrats would be foolish -- and Russians will rejoice -- if they push forward with impeachment.

By a nearly 20-point margin, the American people do not want impeachment, according to polling by the Washington Post and ABC News. Let's move on and focus on issues that actually help the country, like opioid crisis alleviation, national security, infrastructure and health care. Strategically, Democrats seeking to take back the White House would be diminishing their 2020 prospects if they ramrod through impeachment. According to the Washington Post, "about 6 in 10 independents are against impeachment now." Pursuing impeachment could cause Democrats to lose some of these voters, putting their goal of defeating Trump in 2020 in jeopardy.

It appears Speaker Nancy Pelosi so far isn't part of the impeachment chorus, yet a half-baked, ongoing investigation would likely have the same effect on the country's morale as impeachment. Continuing to undermine our President's good faith efforts to improve our economy, protect against foreign threats, reform our immigration system and more is the opposite of uniting our country at this polarizing time. On issues like criminal justice reform, combating the global criminalization of the LGBTI community, suicide prevention and more, the Trump administration has shown its willingness to work across the aisle. It's time for Democrats to follow suit.

I have heard that President Trump is spending all the tariff proceed billions as he sees fit (this has been going on with China for a while now, it’s many many billions) because the purse–string control Congress has only extends to monies raised internally.

I used to like Noonan. I remember an article I really liked about manliness in the culture. She used the example of a guy who decked a shark in the nose to save his woman and saying that was a real man. 

Then I saw her interviewed on TV looking down her nose at the mic as she spoke in a vague affected upper-class accent.

Then I started paying attention to her words and she did seem simplistic--often striving way too hard to sound profound when no profundity was called for.

Then Trump happened and she went haywire.

After reading her new stuff, I lost all respect for her.

Now, for me, she's one other elitist idiot who used to make sense but now doesn't.

Good evening folks. This is George Carling, your hippy dippy weatherman with my morning report. It will be partly cloudy in the morning, with the economy looking healthy. It will become cloudy in the afternoon and the gross domestic product is slightly down because of the discussions of tariffs with Mexico and China. The low will be around 55 F. tonight with winds from the South at 5 to 10 mph while the inflation rate remains steady, here and in Hong Kong. Economic growth could reach 4 percent by the end of 2019. So America and Canada are in the goldilocks zone for weather and prosperity with no damaging gusts or busts forecast.
