Carolejane, Harper got us through the 2008 meltdown relatively unscathed.  You know when the CDN was  actually worth more than the USD which had not happened since 1969.

Yes,I know and am grateful for that and other wise acts of leadership he accomplished. Canadian Conservative PMs have acquitted themselves honourably in general.

Cool, so does that mean that you and Carol are going to be practicing that fundamental of good faith discussions?

I look forward to it!

Jonathan,

LOL...

This whole kerfuffle with Michael Cohen will backfire big-time on the anti-Trumpers. Right now they are salivating at the prospect of Cohen flipping on President Trump, yet they have to keep qualifying their speculations and glee with comments that he has not actually said anything against President Trump, nor is he under investigation.

Don't they realize he's a lawyer? A very, very good lawyer?

:)

But look at the optics. The same Mueller who is going after President Trump is going after Cohen with everything Mueller can muster and get away with. Including breaking into Cohen's office. God knows the wiretaps and so on. (Imagine the list Cohen's peeps are making... :) )

But Cohen is saying, "No. No worries. They're OK. They're good guys. Professional. They've been treating me well. No complaints." And so on...

Doesn't that sound like the comments from a kidnapping victim?

And don't Americans have a visceral aversion to bullies?

:)

We all know that's how the image game is going to play out in the end after the rope-a-dope segment is over, yet here these fake news media dopes are walking right into the trap.

If Cohen is willing to pay off a porn star for President Trump, don't they imagine he is capable of setting up the fake news media (and anything else he can manage) for President Trump?

What dorks...

:)

This whole approach ought to generate some great footage on Republican ads for the midterms.

I thought for sure that this time they might have waited for there to be something there before salivating again. Nope, same old thing.

Caricature Lessons for the Left.

The left used to be funny. They could do comedy, and caricature. Not any more. Now they project their own traits onto Trump:

http://time.com/5322458/trump-balloon-uk-protest-visit/

A good caricature artist captures his target's individual personality traits, not the artist's own (or those of his patrons/customers). Trump is not a cry baby, and he's anything but fragile. He the opposite. Actual infant behavior would be weeping over Hillary's loss, refusing to accept the results of the election, hissing "not my president," vowing to invent whatever reasons it takes to impeach, throwing violent tantrums in the streets, destroying property, blocking traffic and "resisting" while not being able to articulate specifically what you're resisting and why you didn't resist the same thing when Obama or any other world leader did it.

So, rule number one of caricaturing is don't sketch your own weaknesses and vices when trying to ridicule someone else. It just doesn't work. It flops.

Now, with the above in mind, what might be a good, successful way of caricaturing Trump? What are some actual characteristics that he displays which might be made fun of?

Put on your artist caps and make some suggestions, especially our dear lefty friends among us. Please, try this excercise of attempting to avoid accidentally projecting yourself onto Trump. What are some real traits and policies that can be made fun of, and not ones that have been made up and which are in reality applicable to other world leaders but not to Trump?

I saw a funny meme that had trump and kim’s hair swapped!

Swapping people's hair, just as a visual gag, is usually funny, so, sure, I could see a Trump and Kim hair swap being funny. Beyond the sight gag, though, if the deeper point of the meme is to compare the two and put forth the idea that they are the same, then it doesn't work, since it's not at all based in reality. Kim is a dictator, Trump is very actively reducing the scale and power of government.

Here was a pretty good article for July 4th.

She puts some of what Trump is up against into pretty good prospective.

http://www.debbieschlussel.com/85720/americas-birthday-were-lucky-to-be-here-sadly-the-enemy-is-within-too/

I don't share her views on today's immigrants. She has a bit of a different perspective, perhaps from her own personal experiences which differ from mine. Here in Minnesota, we have a variety of large immigrant and refugee populations. Some few are gaming the system, and those who do make the headlines and the social media memes, but, in my experience, the overwhelming majority are assimilating pretty damn quickly compared to past foreigners who came to the U.S., they're very appreciative of freedom, enjoying making honest wages for an honest day's work, and even absorbing the culture, the slang and "new small talk", etc. I don't think that most came with the expectation of freebies. That's really just a characteristic of the lefties who have already lived here for their entire lives -- they want to hand out freebies and make the new arrivals dependent and loyal, but in my experience, most haven't fallen for it. Keep in mind that these people generally have strong cultures, with specific morals, and although freebies for votes may tempt some, most look at the American left as a brash, immoral mess with no sense of self-control or responsibility.

I was listening to the news yesterday, basically the left was Freakkking out because ICE was doing it’s job.  They had protests, signs, crying etc all because they thought “oh no ice is breaking up an illegal immigrant familyyyy in our hood!!!”

Turns out they were breaking up a child sex slave ring...

Oh my God! Trump is so racist and childish!

He's supposed to ignore when a democrat lies about her ancestry, and claims to be a "woman of color" so as to advance her career.

Heh. If it were a McCain or a Romney, they'd be falling over themselves to show Warren and "her people" respect.

Why doesn't somebody put this guy in charge of the whole set of official inquiries? Bold, simple, clear lines -- ready to strike, list in hand (hint hint).  He could have had it all wrapped up before his private tête-à-tête in Helsinki.

The Putin-histrionics gain amplitude as the summit meeting approaches. Today, Faye is still talking about another Novichok poisoning in Salisbury. Gosh. And a fresh report of Russian Death in London. Due in court, a Putin foe was found strangled. Grasping at straws, nu?

Some say Russia has had a shitty-ass deal from the NATO powers up to now, a kind of encirclement.  This NATO thing is also bothering the other President, wouldn't you know. Maybe they will decide a couple of things that make it easier for Russia to come in from the cold. The dozen Republicans legislators who spent the Fourth with Russian counterparts in Moscow have suggested the USA is missing out on business with Russia, due to Crimea and Ukraine sanctions and penalties and  so on.

And what about this encircling of Russian 'sphere' nations?  Can the two Presidents deal with these kinds of irritations?

Russia is also bombing the fuck out of Daraa province in southern Syria.

William,

Someday (but I hope not) it will dawn on the liberals that the Mueller investigation and the whole phony Russian investigation, innuendo, suspicious, accusation, dossie, etc., etc., etc., mess gave President Trump an issue where he could present himself as the victim and be backed up by no evidence from his accusers.

In storytelling terms, I don't think he ever wants this to end, at least not until the midterms in 2022. It keeps the story alive. And that makes this issue is a total draw for President Trump to get new supporters.

Don't believe me? Keep watching...

Why would Republicans visit the Kremlin without any attending American journalists?

William,

I haven't looked into it yet, but probably for the same reason you exclude religious fanatics from high-tech meetings about new inventions. Or maybe exclude KKK members from meetings of the NAACP.

You don't take along bigots who want to destroy you and everything you are working on when trying to make peace and prosperity.

The US press is nothing but a bunch of hateful bigots these days.

Here , here ! The way the majority of the press lies , cheat  , and play politics and try to make the news , not report it , they should not even be invited to the White House , yet alone on a road trip . Why should CNN get special treatment over Candace Owens ?

Marc, turn on brain!  Here you live where journalists are fairest and best. Candace Owens is an American  Internet opportunist who has never done an honest day's journalistic work in her life, and who turned her political coat when she saw better personal prospects elsewhere. If you admire her I am ashamed of you. She aspires to be the new Ann Coulter, a truly degrading aspiration.

ps, that is spelled "Hear, hear".  Sorry, can't help it, compulsive editor.

Carol only likes minorities who stay in their victim place. She’s a bigot toward those minorities who refuse to stay there and who have the temerity to wake up millions of other minororties to the fact that Carol’s ideology has destroyed them and keeps them down.

I disagree that Candace Owens and Ann Coulter are minorities, as they are both in high esteem with the reigning government pundits , I am a bigot against them, as I disagree with their political views,  and have found their wrtten words to be untrustworthy, and will not trust their words until I find them truthful again.

At least Carol is interesting to talk to....

Jules,

The part I like best is her certain uncertainties.

:)

She reminds me of my great grandmother, Rose, who I had the privilege of knowing when I was a child. She would talk emphatically all day long about how she watched her diet while eating blueberry pie multiple times right in front of everyone. :)

I was too little at the time to appreciate this kind of character, but I had a strong attraction to her that I didn't feel with other grownups back then. She was fun. I guess I was born warped. :)

I'm still waiting for Carol to see the fork of blueberry pie in her hand. :)

It's one of those things you sit around watching and waiting for, but never comes, yet you keep watching and waiting...
