Emphases added ... in re Michael Cohen and the New York FBI news just breaking in the Fake News world ... is he 'in custody' or not?

On 7/2/2018 at 5:32 PM, Michael Stuart Kelly said:

This whole kerfuffle with Michael Cohen will backfire big-time on the anti-Trumpers. Right now they are salivating at the prospect of Cohen flipping on President Trump, yet they have to keep qualifying their speculations and glee with comments that he has not actually said anything against President Trump, nor is he under investigation.

Don't they realize he's a lawyer? A very, very good lawyer?

:)

But look at the optics. The same Mueller who is going after President Trump is going after Cohen with everything Mueller can muster and get away with. Including breaking into Cohen's office. God knows the wiretaps and so on. (Imagine the list Cohen's peeps are making... :) )

But Cohen is saying, "No. No worries. They're OK. They're good guys. Professional. They've been treating me well. No complaints." And so on...

Doesn't that sound like the comments from a kidnapping victim?

The "comments from a kidnapping victim" will be interesting to parse, now that the "kidnappers" seem to have extracted what they wanted and intend to bring their victim before the Deep State.  Cohen is just now formally arrested by the FBI and is on his way to a courtroom, unless the Fake News is Extra Fake today and making a mountain out of a molehill of gossip and 'sources say.'

What does this have to do with Donald Trump?  Probably close to absolute zero in terms of dirtying the President's reputation or contributing to legal jeopardy, IMHO. Cohen's reputation is something else, though. "Why didn't somebody tell me my longtime fixer was crooked?" will be said by nobody on Twitter.

William,

This is one gotcha I'll give you.

:)

With one caveat. (There has to be one, right? :)

Everybody knows a fixer is crooked. That's by definition.

Not all crooked people are rats, though.

Cohen is a rat. He's a soulmate to Omarosa.

Quick Michael, copyright that idea! When the reality show comes out you could be cut in as a producer. "Omichael: Sexual Politics"? or maybe Mikoma?   They could pick up the failing Kardashian brand viewership now that the K's have all had as many babies as they could conceive during the tv cycle.

You're not alone, either:

I can feel the collective anti-Trump hope in the air like thick humidity, except it feels more like neurotic anxiety.

It looks like President Trump is finally going to resign, huh?

Or maybe be impeached...

Or sumpin'...

(Enjoy your moment, guys. Your election losses are coming... :) )

Actually, I agree with you that these verdicts won't affect those elections. Trump majorities don't care/don't believe  Trump has done anything wrong in reaching out to Russia or paying off prostititutes-- and  if the payoff came out of campaign funds, it wasn't out of their hard-earned tax money, at least.

Though who was so cheap or so stupid to involve the campaign fund at all?  Surely the soi-disant genius IQ then-candidate and his brilliant lawyer could have figured out a way to launder the payment better. Like bills in a paper bag handed over in an airport cafe, like our late great PM Mulroney.

If the N-word tape existed and we all heard it, it wouldn't change a thing.

Hell, Trump got caught on tape saying "grab 'em by the p*ssy"----and then he had evangelical Christians vote for him in large numbers.

So Cohen paid off some women for Trump... nobody will care.

It's a sad state of morality out there, and Trump represents it all.

Hey, we lefties have no monopoly on neuroses.  Here is what my errant cousin riffed on "West Side Story" when attending a Trump rally:

I'm neurotic,

So neurotic,

and so fearful and cheerful  and odd -

so neurotic

I can hardly tell the Prez from God!

I feel heated,

Oh so heated,

It's alarming how hot it is here!

It's erotic,

To yell "Lock her up" when He's near!

I love it that the press is all over Manafort, Cohen, and, never forget, muh Russians!

I'm looking at something a little different that is not getting much real estate in the fake news space.

Trump will spend 40 days campaigning for midterms

:)

Man, the anti-Trumpers should be hooting it up that Trump would waste his time now that they have him cornered with no way out and he is signed sealed and delivered and it's all over for him except the crying. I can't wait to read all the snark. Maybe they'll run with some repeats of their texts during the last presidential election that Hillary was to win as a sure bet regardless of how many rallies Trump did.

Come on, people, say something.

I'm interested... All ears...

Korben,

Don't forget about Adobe Voco and Lyrebird. You know this technology in a refined stage is already in the hands of billionaires. I think the reason they haven't started bombarding the public with fake audio is because the billionaires on both sides have it. So it's a standoff reminiscent of mutually assured destruction. If one guys does it, the other will, too.

But somebody is going to slip up one day as the temptation is more than some humans can bear to make a recording of a hated enemy saying stupid shit in a realistic manner. Then kaboom. Things will get quite colorful and entertaining.

I disagree. Trump voters do care. Very much so. They just recognize that even with all of this shit (and potential more shit), it's still WAY better than Hillary, or Obama, or any other leftist. Leftists have a crap ideology, plus they have as much or more corrupt shit as Trump, plus their voters actually don't care about their candidates' and  elected officials' misdeeds. The only time that they pretend to care is when they can use it as a weapon. Just like you're doing now. Look at the Keith Ellison nomination for MN AG. If it were Trump or any other republican, the left would be screaming that women need to be listened to, and they'd be hounding and outing anyone and everyone who had endorsed the accused abuser, and who had not denounced and condemned him. The entire party would be smeared as waging a war against women. But with their own candidate, they're hedging, hiding, playing games, hoping it will all blow over, looking the other way, not believing the victim.

The right has merely learned how to ignore your pretend morality, and not fall for your incitements to vote for the much greater of two evils.

The President -- and FoxNews's Sean "Michael Cohen was also my lawyer/advisor" Hannity -- have figured out the law ...

From the peanut gallery:  "What is a felony?"

Another guy whose law studies have given him a certain insight. Styxhexenhammer666 opines on Manafort woes and the Cohen plea:

Cannot wait till November elections are done and then we hear how the Russians fixed them , Trump is going to lose in 2020 and all the exact same blah blah that we have heard since day one .

I believe that the Senate will be 65-70% Trump and Trump will also add at least 15-20 in Congress .

yeah , and an obvious sweep of all 50 states in 2020 .

Trump is the people and the people are Trump .

The 'anti-Trump' blob is full of individuals plonking the same melody over and over. And then there is bestselling author Rick Wilson, who belongs to ... the Daily Beast, I guess. Emphasis added to MSK's remarks.

More fun stuff ...

Finally, President Trump says he paid off the porn-star (and let's not forget Karen McDougal) ...

Someone who should know better?

Correction Marc, as of the last fed election, 49% of the people were Trump in electoral popular-vote terms, , while Trump himself was 1% of the people, in economic terms as usual. Maybe by now 0.5%.
