Jules:

Amazing archive of vintage analog cameras.

Digital photography has bestowed many gifts, and some few horrors: selfies, naturally, as well as even less dignified self-portraits, of the sort certain politicians send out; mass surveillance, as well as the ability of average citizens to produce important pieces of evidence and to document history; hard times for professional photographers, as well as the full democratization of the medium. What it has almost rendered obsolete is the mechanism that enabled photographic images in the first place. In place of cameras, we have smartphones, the hated Glass… maybe sometime in the future no external device at all. Given this trajectory, it’s entirely understandable that all sorts of people—steampunks, antiquarians, Luddites, analog fetishists, middle-age hipsters, etc.—would grow nostalgic not only for the cracked, striated monochrome patina of vintage photographs, but also for the boxes—large and small, simple and highly complicated—that produced them.

:) the market is saturated but that's ok, you just need to be more patient and instead of going for the multitude of "yay another bird on a stick pic". Wait for the unique behavioural shots. Most people do not have that kind of patience. :)

Neat post Adam, there are many that go back to film. Sometimes it makes a difference as many(most) digital camera guys would not have a clue. Back in the day the top guys didnt eve need light meters they did it naturally through a long process of trial and error.

Well I have ordered the Nikon 400mm f2.8 FL and am still awaiting it's arrival.

Yesterday I went out with my sigma 120-300mm f2.8 + 2x Teleconverter (turns lens into a 600mm but sacrifices sharpness and micro contrast )

In order to get "close enough to this bad boy(girl actually). A Gyrfalcon hunting. Although the image quality is a bit soft from both the TC and atmospheric haze the action made up for it.

Hope ya all like it. I froze my ass off -26c for this shot.

Oh and here is a coyote. No Brant he isn't taking a crap!

Damn! first one looks like it is a painting, is that what you meant by "soft."

The Coyote - snow or sun glare, or, sleeping?

Adam, he blinked, he was stating at me for 7 frames one of the 11 shots I took as he ducked down to get a better look at me he blinked. I loved it! The others I love too, his Stare is great! Will post in a week or so. Yes Adam the softness does give it a bit of a painterly look.

Here is a sharp one.

Carol that's a great complement! No I have not set up an exhibit yet.

I have sold a few printed to wrapped canvases though. More or less I am still building my portfolio. There are specific shots I am looking to capture and when I have around 20 I am going to open a website:)

PS: the chasing pigeons around the penthouse made me chuckle. Did the birds in this scenario ever turn into hyenas?

Thanks Jonathan! Things are about to be ramped up considerably. This lens is a game changer.

It is a great works man who knows how to use his tools.

I have showed that Gyrfalcon shot to a number of folks - some of them who pursue art as an avocation and or a business and they were suitably impressed.

Awesome! I am hoping for -30 temp. And a super clear crisp day to return there. Crazy I know but with longer range shooting at 800mm atmospheric haze can play a big part on how clear your bird will look. (Another month and she will return to the arctic breeding grounds too.)

I am hoping to get an action shot of her hitting her prey. Or at least with talons outstretched justtt before the strike. (Those are the money shots).

That is one serious bird!!! The detail was fantastic. What kind of film did you use or was it video.

I shot that with a Nikon D4S 16.2 megapixel digital camera. Film costs way to much!

Bob was just dating himself...I barely hold back asking the same question...

I am not ahead of the curve at all. The last camera I owned used film. I never had a digital camera.
