Carol,

Promote means make conditions for others to do it. Protect the peace. Things like that.

Promote does not mean provide food, clothing, shelter, health care, and entertainment.

Besides, "general welfare" in that context does not mean "welfare checks."

Michael

It does now.

One example: Since the year 2000 the cost of the government food stamp program (EBT) has grown 358%.

America has indeed degenerated into a European liberal socialist democracy where the political majority literally votes for their own benefits such as obamacare.

Greg,

I agree. I should have said "in the original meaning" or something like that.

Progressives like to play the game of semantics. People couldn't stand them last century, so they changed their name to that of their opponent. They became liberal.

They do that with meanings, too. So "general welfare" can become the opposite to mean benefits for some and persecution of others.

Yes. The meaning of words degenerates to match degraded values.

General welfare pretty much meant or means, so I've been told, things like infrastructure, not luxuries, like you say.

You have been misinformed.

Try reading the Federalist papers and particularly Madison's Federalitst #14, it is understood that the Federal government's jurisdiction is " ...to be limited..."

In Federalist 45, he clearly stated that, "The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal governmemt are few and defined." There is no fucking miscommunication as to what they meant.

There was no fucking doubt as to what the Framers ment. NONE.

Read the Federalist papers and stop being "told."

A...

Chill. I was fucking agreeing with you.

I think Adam will be OK. When he is really upset he loses control of his apostrophes.

Such a witch, well, I can't spell sometimes.
