Run Hillary Run - Still an outside possibility

Hillary should eat raw cashews in the shell before speaking...

Sexist!!

Apparently, Evita's Amazons are not going to take calling her by her first name...

Yet some Americans, mostly women, don’t think the former secretary of state, U.S. senator from New York and first lady should be called by just her first name.

“I think it’s pretty unjust,” said Monica Warek, 23, on a recent visit to Washington from New York City. “I think it shows the level of inequality that still exists in the workforce and just in general in society.”

So, in that high minded, naive and pompous plain, I am going to just call her Bill's Bitch and the initials work so well...

Could it be she doesn't deserve the respect of formal address because she's a horrible excuse for a human being? Let the cops be polite. Out of respect they can call her "Sir" just like all the male perps.

Jules,

At least her Clinton Foundation spends money on it:

The Life of a Cashew Fruit in 8 Photos

Dayaamm! I am now getting the urge for cashew juice. This juice is common in Brazil and it is delicious.

Because of your post, I did look and was surprised to see that the cashew tree is part of the same plant family as poison ivy and sumac (with the chemical urushiol being the villain--lucky it's only in the shell, huh? ).

Apropos of nothing in particular, a Brazilian putdown I learned soon after arriving there translates as, "go wipe your ass with poison ivy."

Can you put that phonetically into the Portuguese so I can use it here without consequence?

Do you know why they don't speak Spanish in Brazil? Some Pope got involved and divided up the continent by language.

Can you put that phonetically into the Portuguese so I can use it here without consequence?

Brant,

I just resolved an error that has been in my head for at least 40 years or so.

The phrase is "vai esfregar o cú na ortiga" since you asked for it. However, I looked around at some Brazilian sites to make sure I didn't screw up the masculine and feminine, then decided to check the translation of the phrase with Google translate (sometimes the results are hilarious).

Son of a bitch. It didn't translate well and kept referencing porn sites. So I decided to see about "ortiga" as a word since it wasn't tracking at all and it didn't translate as poison ivy. It didn't translate as anything. But there is a Spanish translation that means "stinging nettle."

Damn, that's it. That has to be it. (Boy, did my mind resist that, too.)

In Brazil, there are a lot of Spanish words that are assimilated in common usage that don't make it to bilingual dictionaries. Italian, French and English words, too. And others.

So why did I think it was poison ivy?

Here's the story. I learned this phrase from a bilingual friend I met in Brazil back in the early 70's (Djalma) when I did not speak Portuguese. He translated the phrase for me during a conversation, laughing all the while, but didn't know the English word for "ortiga." So he described a plant with jagged leaves and the itching rash it causes on the human skin. I merely assumed that was poison ivy. From how we talked, that was an easy mistake to make.

Look at the pictures:

Stinging nettle

04.09.2015-18.55.png

Poison Ivy

04.09.2015-18.52.png

So the real meaning of the phrase is "go wipe your ass with nettles."

Whodda thunk I would have looked that one up after 40 years or so?

:)

However, I believe for the emotional meaning of the phrase here in the USA, a poison ivy rash is far more common than a nettle rash, especially in humorous stories, so my wrong translation inadvertently conveys the meaning better in casual conversation, even though it is technically incorrect.

Translators do this kind of thing all the time when translating popular culture texts. There's an impact to precision balance you have to do all the time and, frankly, I got pretty good at that.

There's a funny book by Millor Fernandes called The cow went to the swamp =: A vaca foi pro brejo that shows what happens when you translate Brazilian sayings too literally. (A good translation of the meaning of that expression is something like "everything went to hell." The metaphor of a cow going into a swamp doesn't really resonate with an American audience. :) )

I wish I could say my 40 year old wrong translation that works well, the one I (and Djalma for that matter) have spread far and wide for close to half a century, was one of my masterstrokes. But it was purely an accident.

:)

Evita admits that she is a racist!!!!

<<<<<right there above the big blue D she admits to being a "cracker!!"

tee_twitterTBD_ss_grey_two_up.jpg

She has FLOTUS < stand downwind at the press conferences Evita is not going to have...

Woman and girls advocate because boys are gun totin, Bible readin predators who need to be kept in her famous "Testicle Lock Box" [coined by Rush Limbaugh back in the '90's****]

Finally, these are being touted as Tees on the weekend of the Masters which is incoherent pandering.

****Urban Dictionary defines the TLB as:

testicle lockbox
A figurative device, in which a woman hold's a man's manhood, preventing him from acting as per his natural state. Implicit in this arrangement is that the woman has means of reprisal against the man, and should he misbehave, grave consequences await. Most commonly used to describe arrangements in spousal or significant-other relationships, but can also be used in other scenarios where a woman has power over a man, and he must accede to her demands or face consequences. Often abbreviated, just 'TLB', especially when used in polite company.

The word is only correctly used if the man feels emasculated as a result - it does not cover all situations where a woman has authority over a man. A female boss who just threatens to fire a guy would not have him in a testicle lockbox if he feels machismo because of it.

In the late 90's, perhaps the genesis of the term, it was used to describe the arrangement Hillary Clinton had come to with Bill Clinton after the Monica Lewinsky scandal erupted.
Q: Joe, you wanna go bowling tonight?
A: Naw, man, my old lady, she don't want me being out late.
Q: She's totally got you in a testicle lockbox.
A: Shuddup. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=testicle%20lockbox

Clinton may make the official announcement with an online video or social media post, though those plans are still being finalized. She is expected to quickly hit the campaign trail, with stops in Iowa and New Hampshire.

It's unclear whether Clinton's husband, former president Bill Clinton, and her daughter, Chelsea, will hold solo events in the campaign's early stages.

This may be the Queen Bee Campaign. The last part is, frankly, brilliant because Bill could dissuade a serial killer to skip him.

Chelsea, as unattractive as she is, has the energy and training to campaign vigorously.

Evita opens the pimp my girl segment of the campaign....

Ready for...

Chelsea Clinton was thoughtful and candid during her conversation with ELLE editor-at-large Rachael Combe for this month's cover story. Their discussion topics ranged from whether she'd like her daughter Charlotte's grandmother to be the first female president of the United States, to the pressures she feels as a woman in a leadership role, to how she influences her parents on topics of national importance such as gay rights, to what it's like riding the subway and going to the grocery store as, well, Chelsea Clinton. She talked passionately about motherhood and her seven-month-old daughter—along with her other baby, the No Ceilings Full Participation Report—and the happy place in which she finds herself, finally writing her own story as a mother, wife, advocate, and, yes, the beloved daughter of two of the most powerful people on the planet.

****This is an official warning...the Vogue description of Evita's daughter is, well, read it here...

vomit-into-the-toilet.gif

In her May issue editor's letter, ELLE Editor-in-Chief Robbie Myers writes: "There is something innately regal about Chelsea—a kind of grace that doesn't seem practiced, or trotted out just for public consumption. She's a person of substance for sure, a young woman who, while measured in her manner, has a fierceness of conviction, and a calling to make the world a better place."

No Ceilings is emblematic of the work Chelsea says she felt called to do. It was an idea she and her mother dreamed up together, looking back at the United Nations' World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995, where Hillary, then First Lady, made her famous declaration that "human rights are women's rights and women's rights are human rights." Chelsea says she wanted to use the 20th anniversary of that historic event to provide perspective on the status of women's rights, and last month she was able to do just that as she officially released the No Ceilings Full Participation Report at an event in New York City, alongside her mother and Melinda Gates (The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation joined forces with the No Ceilings initiative of the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation to create the report).

Evita has decided to run a streetwalker type campaign, just intimate little meetings in hallways of the commoners and suck them dry.

Gone are the soaring speeches and large rallies. Instead, Clinton plans to appear with a handful of voters at less-scripted gatherings at coffee shops and in living rooms that will allow her to speak to individual voters, according to those knowledgeable about her plans but not authorized to speak publicly.

The strategy underscores the need for the former first lady, senator and secretary of state to relate to lower- and middle-class families after years of being criticized as an out-of-touch Washington insider garnering hefty paychecks for her speeches and tied to the nation’s biggest corporations.

Read more here: http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2015/04/10/262848/how-hillary-clinton-will-launch.html#storylink=cpy

I am more and more certain that my instincts were correct on how they are going to insulate her from herself.

Before she ran for the Senate for the first time, then-first lady Clinton embarked on a similar “listening tour” across the state of New York in 1999.

Yep and what legislative accomplishments did she achieve in her 18 years (?) seems like forever?

This is priceless...

Evita published an Epilogue to her book that no one bought...and the advance was a little more than $30.00 I think.

Clinton published a new epilogue Friday from her 2014 memoir “Hard Choices” on the Huffington Post, previewing issues that she will likely focus on while campaigning in personal terms.

“Becoming a grandmother has made me think deeply about the responsibility we all share as stewards of the world we inherit and will one day pass on,” Clinton wrote. “Rather than make me want to slow down, it has spurred me to speed up.”

Here we have Maureen Dowd's "Grandmama Mia!" Sunday Op Ed which concludes:

But if Hillary really wants to help those children, maybe she should give them some of the ostensible and obscene $2.5 billion that she is planning to spend to persuade us to make her grandmother of our country.

This column eviscerates Evita.

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/12/opinion/sunday/maureen-dowd-grandmama-mia.html?_r=0

And we have Michael Goodwin's front page Saturday Column "Oh Hill no! Clinton’s stale presidential plan wrong for nation."

A presidential campaign headquarters in hipster Brooklyn — really? Announcing on Twitter — really? As Joan Rivers might have advised, Oh, Grow Up!

The sweaty effort to appear fresh reinforces the suspicion that Hillary senses danger in the argument that she’s awfully close to her expiration date. It’s not merely a matter of age, though she will be 69 come next Inauguration Day, which would put her close to Ronald Reagan’s record.

Goodwin can really turn a phrase...

She still makes baby talk about breaking glass ceilings and other coded references designed to get her Pantsuit Posse out of their chairs, but it feels like a re-enactment rather than the real thing. After each bad review and each new scandal, the prospect of another usurper emerging from the shadows must give her panic attacks. Déjà vu all over again.

Will the left’s new darling, Elizabeth Warren, jump into the race? Will Martin O’Malley steal Iowa and puncture her balloon of invincibility.

Goodwin concludes that:

So far, something about Hillary does not seem right for the present, let alone the future. Aides have been discounting the early going as a false measure, and assuring backers that she’ll right the ship once she launches.

Perhaps, but she is taking on much more water than they had expected, and her margin for error is shrinking fast. The polls suggest there is a tipping point with voters and inevitable stumbles and scandals could make 2016 look like 2008.

It could be that she’s star-crossed, and the gods will conspire against her again. After all, as Mark Twain observed, “History doesn’t repeat itself, but it does rhyme.”

The American voter will tolerate almost any crap dished up by the establishment--corporate and media--and this bitch could well be the next POTUS. And she knows it.

Nationally Democrats have always been about power for the sake of power and that includes all the Kennedys not excluding JFK and all their rotten ilk. (And I've always liked JFK--he was better than anything that came after in all significant respects.) This doesn't excuse Republicans; they can be dangerous for other reasons--that is, not being so much whores for power they can be whores for doing what they imagine is right that is really, really wrong--like invading Iraq. All the damage Obama is doing is enabled by the damage of the last Bush including domestic policies. Bush makes him a piker by comparison. Yeah, the shoulders of a--cough, cough--giant.

Yeah, yeah! You guys up in Canada don't have to worry about "Evita" - but we do! :o Sure, you have your own problems,....wanna trade??

One of Canada's problems is that we would handily elect Obama were he able to run here. His approval rating is apparently higher in Canada than any other Canadian politician. By a large margin, we love the guy. So, a trade would get you Obama-loving-land, and a more European-style set of problems: how to pay for universal health care, how to keep a military, how to surf economic turbulence, how to extract energy efficiently, how to manage multicultural reality, how to keep French thriving, how to maintain national unity.

I would not want to trade all that administrative wrangling for the problems of World Sheriff, a nuclear power, a superior if not commanding role in every global policy arena, a finger in almost every country on earth, a legacy of history not always flattering to self-image. It would be far far too much for a modestly sized Canada to take on. Our world responsibilities only rarely call us to use our military force to deal death to our enemies. Imagine if California suddenly had to take on all the work funded and directed by DC.

So, I think there would be mutual loathing for problem-trading between our countries.

On your next executive election, as I said earlier, I am hopeful that Ted Cruz gets the GOP nod, as he is the only Canadian in the race. The starkest of differences with the Democrats would be apparent in a Clinton/Cruz matchup.

As for "Evita," silly monikers repeated on an Objectivish forum do no work in the larger world. I think Glinda would agree, though not Sparky, O'bodge, Duffleboard, Bag-eyes, Jesusboy, Thickwaste, Schnarkella, Roufus, Sprouter or G-Fish. The terms do not enter currency anywhere else. They aren't understood widely. (they kind of remind me of Lindsay Perigo's neologisms, though Lindsay's are much more extensive and stupid and still traded among the sad remnant at SOLO)

My prediction is that Clinton will be the Democratic nominee, and that she will win a majority of Electoral College votes. I hope the race will be tightly contested enough to be thrilling ...

I also predict that Thickwaste, Roufus and Sprouter will be the Final Three in the Republican Survivor primaries.

The Evita moniker is close to perfect because the Clintonistas fascist, facile and monetary pigs.

I disagree strongly with this garble. Eva Peron died of cancer at a relatively young age, and at the height of her popularity in life. She has a legacy that endured and grew in death. Her legend is her spell over Argentina, her enduring myth -- close to a secular saint to the 'downtrodden' and so in her death exploited further by her husband. The myth still attached to her widower over a long exile, such that he could ride her coattails back into office as a spent dying man.

The only salient point of contact between Hillary Clinton and Eva Peron is that each was a First Lady. If Hillary had died in Bill's sixth year in office, then the Eva Peron sub might make sense. In no appreciable way has Hillary gained the 'glory-in-death' entry into popular consciousness of Eva Peron.**

Attack Clinton politically, redraw the scandals, criticize her record, her policies, her decisions, her campaigns, her staff, her family, her foundation, her flunkies, her fund-raising, her grasp of reallity, her 'fascism' and 'corruption.' Do that without poking out 'Evita' and your argument is far stronger. Adam.

I am not telling you to stop with what I consider silly namey games. I'm just telling you they tend to degrade or blunt your arguments wherever you use them. They may give you a small sense of command over a reality large and disquieting and beyond your control, but that little spurt of pleasure you might feel adds not much to rational discussion.
