Earlier today I attended a memorial service for my friend Fred Litwin. It was a marvelous occasion.
Fred had a long life. He died in September of this year. He had retired and closed his wonderful furniture store in 2003.
The memorial service showed the full range of his friends and his life. All of the people in attendance got to remember Fred's insults and banter. They heard about his great love for his wife and daughters. They heard and remembered his being an honest businessman. They heard about his love of kosher dill pickles.
I think all of the people who attended will have great memories of the event and of Fred.
In my remarks I said Fred had a wonderful life. And I thought that we wouldn't see his like again. But when another person died and my last remark was said, somebody else said we'd better.
We may not see another Fred Litwin but it really would be wonderful if we could both see and be Fred.
