Look like Prof. Gotthelf will be coming out with two new collections.
His CV lists:
1. Concepts and Their Role in Knowledge: Ayn Rand's "New Approach to Epistemology" (with G. Salmieri, O. Ghate, and J.G. Lennox)
2. Ayn Rand: A Companion to Her Works and Thought [20 chapters, 16 authors] (co-edited), Oxford: Blackwell
At the ages of ten and eleven we were living in Toyko, Japan. I can remember riding the Toyko subway. While on some occasions we went with our houseboy I am sure there were times we rode it alone. I remember seeing a report about the big deal of a kid in New York City who rode the subway and bus alone and the outcry to his parents.
What kind of little wusses are we raising today.
I just found out that I was raised as a free range kid. Apparently there are people who think kids need to watched like they have a Secret Service detail. When I was eight I walked to school. Four blocks. A girl in my class walked a longer distance. Today my mother might be charged with child neglect.
There is a story in today's(May 5) Washington Post that the Times has relented and is not planning to close the Globe.
The New York Times which own the Boston Globe is pulling the plug on that newspaper. The New York Times is not doing well itself. The stock costs less than a Sunday paper. It couldn't happen to a more deserving group.
As I have said elsewhere I will not be observing his birthday. I think you should have denounced Stalin before 1993. For a further look Ronald Radosh on Pajamas Media has a great post about the old Red. I don't think he was much of a singer either.
There seems to be that because Arlen Spector's departure that the GOP is about to die.
Don't believe it. The party has problems but they are not incurable. I remember what it like in 1964 after the Goldwater defeat. I also remember what it like in 1976 when Jimmy Carter was elected. Finally I remember what it was like after George H W Bush was defeated.
As I said the GOP must do some work but from now on everything that goes wrong can be blamed on the Democrats. The Democrats control
I had not heard of Mary Ann Glendon until today. Even so she is a figure of courage and she speaks truth to power.
She has refused an award from Norte Dame University which she would have received at the same time as President Obama. She is refusing the award because she does not want to used as cover for President Obama's views on abortion. I am not taking a position on abortion but I think Catholic schools and universities should not honor individuals who attack fundamental doctrines of
This is a movie about the first interviews conducted by David Frost of former President Richard Nixon in 1977. The movie suggest that Frost did them to revive a sagging career. Others have suggest that Frost's career was not sagging. Nixon was not able recover from his disgrace although the sitting President Clinton did come to his funeral.
The acting and writing are very good.
The Tudors is a series now in its third season mainly about Henry the VIII.
Henry VIII broke with Rome and was the person most responsible for England becoming Protestant. One point to be made was that the break with Rome did not lead to more freedom for the English people. The Church provided a counterweight to the power of the King.
The series is well written and the acting is good.
CSI has had several very good episodes. William Peterson leaving has not affected the quality of the scripts. The episode that ran April 23 was excellent with a good performance by the Katherine Willow's character.
The show has gone through some case changes but still looks very good.
I would like to make a small defense of drunken sailors. It is has been said that the Federal government like a drunken sailor. This is not true. Drunken sailors when they run out of money stop spending and they don't print up new money. The Federal government has continued to spend and printed money.
There are times when the extremes that some Liberal left-wing individuals will resort to is just amazing. Case in point: 3 years ago, I partook in a forum thread about unruly children in restaurants. I merely commented that I too had had a feeding situation with my child that resulted in some mild, and appropriate for her age, corporal punishment. Well that didn't go over with one of the members in the thread, who proceeded to judge me as some maniac who goes around beating children to death. Li
In a panel discussing Hollywood, Michael Burns, the president of Lionsgate, said he thought TV more than movies had more libertarian themes.
I have talked about "The Wire". I have also mentioned at two episodes of CSI Miami.
I would like to hear of more.
Join me and the family in our efforts to support Walk Now for Autism!
Once again, we are participating in Walk Now for Autism to help find a cure for autism. As you may know, my son Sean has a form of autism called PDD-NOS. This stands for Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified. Sean is a very sweet boy who enjoys Star Wars, Lego video games and Tae Kwon Do. He started high school this year and is involved with the Best Buddies program at his school. Thankfully, he is high fun
The film does not talk about the trial of White. He should have clearly been convicted of first degree murder. He had entered City Hall through a window so avoid the metal detector at the entrances. He shot Mayor Moscone and Milk several times to make sure they were dead.
My comments about AIDS is slightly wrong. One of the people depicted in the movie died of it.
Milk is the new movie that won Sean Penn his second Oscar.
Harvey Milk was San Francisco County Supervisor who along with Mayor Moscone was assassinated by a former Supervisor Dan White. Milk was the first openly gay man elected to public office. He came into around the time of Anita Bryant's fight against anti-gay discrimination law in Miami, Florida.
Sean Penn is very good and deserves his Oscar. The supporting cast is also good with Josh Brolin doing a very good job as Dan White.
The Largest Ponzi Scheme of All
On March 12, 2009, disgraced former NASDAQ chairman and Wall Street investor Bernard Madoff pleaded guilty to cheating investors out of $65 billion. Across America there was an eruption of public outrage, even greater than what accompanied the trials of the September 11th conspirators. He became the villain, the target, for us to direct all of the anger that has been building up inside of us. Since the early 1990s, he had been running a ponzi scheme, “ponzi” re
