I want to recommend a book I just started reading last night: "Suspicious Minds," by Rob Brotherton. As is usual, I read first the chapter that stuck out -- Chapter 5, The Paranoid Fringe. It takes a useful critical look at the seminal article by Richard Hofstadter -- "The Paranoid Style in American Politics" -- and also runs to ground a plausible origin of 'tinfoil hats.' 

The book is written in a wry conversational tone, and is not on the surface a ''scholarly" read thick with endless footnotes, but it also contains a very useful reference list by page number -- as well as a full index at the back.  (My copy is from our local library, but I am going to order it from Amazon so I always have it on hand as a reference book.)

William, Sure. I went to my orders completed page at Amazon and typed in "conspiracy" just to make this fast. Four books came up, but I have more (I always haunt used book places, too  ). Interesting, if puzzling comment on conspiracy-related notions, from Ellen in the Fake News topic: Name and Shame, brothers and sisters. Name and shame. As Brotherton might say ... "It's not Them, it's Us."  

"I think there is a strong enabler complicity among those who sneer at the very idea of real conspiracies being underway - a kind of informal colluding though not precisely conspiring to protect the elites in the shadows, an unacknowledged desire to assist toward the achievement of goals the sneerer approves of but wouldn't admit to favoring."

That Standard Hotel, in Schiff’s district, is a child trafficking front. That Schiff is a top customer and long-time protector. And that the owners were murdered, by Schiff, in a helicopter “accident” the other day.

We do get it, you know J, your point, your one and only point these days.  It is only acceptable to be outraged about lies, slurs or disrespect of Trump. or his favoured few at the time.  Everyone else can be trashed and ridiculed - war heroes, Gold Star mothers,ex-presidents, honoured public servants. dead elementary school students and their classmates who mourn them, everyone except Donald J. With my interest in conspiracy theories, and my subscription to David Seaman and Styxhexenhammer, Youtube seems to think I want more of similar accounts. 

And, so, courtesy of The Algorithm, one of Jordan Sather's newest videos, which draws together several up-and-coming theories -- about Antarctica, "QAnon,"** #FollowtheWhiteRabbit, the Rothschilds/Soros, and so on.  Feast!

In the video, Sather cites this story, from the UK version of METRO: #FollowTheWhiteRabbit is possibly the craziest conspiracy theory of all time. I've cued up the video to his discussion of the METRO story.

I like the way Sather includes the links to material discussed in his videos; he has 'show notes,' and also as you will see, a whiteboard and an on-screen monitor that reflects what he is talking about.

As soon as MBS was named Crowned Prince is when ‘The Purge’ in Saudi Arabia began. Hundreds of Officials and other Princes were arrested for corruption charges, many with ties to Clinton, Podesta, Huma, Obama, etc. All of their corrupt dealings and bank records are being investigated. As this unfolds, the paper trail will likely lead to charges here in the United States and could possibly be some of the sealed indictments. MBS has a good relationship with Trump and has vowed to 'Make Saudi Arabia Great Again', less strict and more moderate. Saudi Arabia is now working with Israel (highly unusual) and Trump against Iran, Radical Islam and efforts to defund terrorism.

Catching up with David Seaman. This is an edited version of his December 6th "live streaming" Youtube video called The Storm Is Here! Interagency Pizzagate DC Raids!?

Seaman is referring to Operation Tin Panda, a series of raids and arrests in northern Virginia and the District of Columbia. In a kind of transmutation, he has grafted a gang-related sweep to the Soros-Clinton-Pizzagate world-wide child sex trafficking cult. Along the way he takes aim at his favourite punching bag this month, Susan Wojcicki of Google/Youtube. 

In the video (starting around 4:00) he smokes a "Caviar" joint, with somewhat interesting results.

The video is 45 minutes long, so I excerpted the gist from the first few minutes. Misspellings of the automated closed captions are left in as leavening. Genko Ogre, Jack Yager, Jake Eager and Genki Huger  can all be read as Cenk Uygur. To David Seaman's' eyes he is a terrorist.

I am not happy with how abrupt I was with this person. I do still believe he suffered from a delusional disorder, but unkindness was mixed with kindness, and sympathy for his suffering seemed almost feigned.

Yes, TG is Trey Gowdey, and the answer to the question “What ROLE might TG be walking into?” is, the role of criminal prosecutor, for the more than 10,000 sealed indictments that have been filed around the country. It won’t be his first time.

‘QAnon’ posts at message boards, wildly popular with far right, sprout huge web of fantastic theories about Trump, an imminent ‘Deep State countercoup,’ and arrests aimed at liberals’ supposed ‘pedophilia ring.’

In an online universe where conspiracy theories not only sprout like kudzu but attract bigger audiences the more outrageous and strange they grow, it was probably inevitable that an uber-theory like “The Storm” would become an overnight sensation.

Part “Pizzagate,” part New World Order, and part hyper-partisan wishful thinking by defenders of Donald Trump, “the Storm” is a sprawling meta-conspiracy, with actors ranging from Hillary Clinton to model Christy Teigen, in which everything you know about the current investigations into Russian meddling in the 2016 election and potential collusion with the Trump campaign is upside down.

Special counsel Robert Mueller, in this alternative universe, is in fact preparing to indict hundreds of Democrats (including Clinton, Barack Obama, and financier George Soros) and Hollywood celebrities for their roles in a massive worldwide pedophilia ring, operated by “globalists” who are conspiring to destroy Trump — and that the president himself is himself masterminding this “countercoup.”

“What we have come up with is a possible coup,” explained conspiracy theorist David Zublick in a late-November video, “not against Donald Trump, but by Donald Trump, working with Robert Mueller to bring down the Clintons, the Democrat Party, and the entire U.S. government involved in pedophilia and child sex trafficking.”

In just a few short weeks, the theory has grown from a handful of posts on fringe Internet chat forums to become the overwhelming obsession of nearly every conspiracy theorist in the business, notably Alex Jones and his Infowars operation, as well as social-media figures such as Liz Crokin. In addition to being a constant focus of discussion on Infowars, dozens of YouTube videos and thousands of Twitter posts exploring various facets of the conspiracy, and presenting the usual dubious “evidence” to “prove” it, have shown up on the Internet.

The origins of “The Storm” lie in Trump’s cryptic remarks on October 6, saying that a gathering of military leaders represented “the calm before the storm.” When asked what he meant, Trump responded: “You’ll see.”

Three weeks later, as New York Magazine’s Paris Martineau reported, an anonymous poster at the Internet message board 4chan — one of the main organizing and recruitment forums for the alt-right — who claimed he had high-level “Q” national-security clearance began publishing a series of cryptic messages that he claimed were “intel drops” intended to start informing the public through such channels about what was really happening inside the White House, and what Trump really meant by his odd remarks.

According to “QAnon,” Trump’s remark was a reference to the indictments handed down by Mueller in late October, ostensibly related to his investigation of the Trump campaign and its alleged collusion with Russian intelligence. Most news reports about those indictments, reported to number in the hundreds, presumed that they were related to criminal behavior around the campaign.

Not so, said “QAnon,” who claimed that Trump was never really under investigation. Instead, those indictments were all being directed at a massive conspiracy involving a global pedophilia ring operated by high-level Democrats and other “globalists” who were simultaneously part of a plot to overthrow Trump’s presidency with a “deep state” coup.

This is the same pedophilia ring that was the focus of the “Pizzagate” conspiracy theorythat excited much of the far right in the months after the 2016 election. The conspiracists, including Jones, claimed that Clinton campaign adviser John Podesta’s emails, stolen by hackers during the campaign and published on Wikileaks, revealed that he, Clinton, and a host of others were part of a pedophilia ring operating out of a Washington, D.C., pizza parlor.

However, in the new expanded version of the theory, the pedophilia ring has gone global, drawing in alleged participants from all around the nation, and occurring in locations ranging from Hollywood to Europe. (One version of the pedophilia theory entertained by Jones claimed that the child victims were being secretly shipped to a colony on Mars.)

“QAnon” and the conspiracy theorists who piled on at 4chan, 8chan, and on Twitter claimed that contrary to the running story in mainstream media, this pedophilia ring is the real focus of Mueller’s investigation. The general conclusion, spread through the #qanon hashtag on social media, was that a wave of arrests – including Clinton, Obama, Podesta, Soros, Sen. John McCain, and a number of leading Hollywood figures and Democrats was about to happen.

As Martineau pointed out, however, there has been a credibility problem for “QAnon” early on, since he posted in early November a scenario in which hundreds of arrests, and massive social turmoil, were about to be unleashed within a matter of days. “Rest assured, the safety and well-being of every man, woman, and child of this country is being exhausted in full,” he wrote. “However, the atmosphere within the country will unfortunately be divided as so many have fallen for the corrupt and evil narrative that has long been broadcast. We will be initiating the Emergency Broadcast System (EMS) during this time in an effort to provide a direct message (avoiding the fake news) to all citizens.”

Jordan has introduced some technical enhancements -- apparently using software called Wirecast -- giving viewers a clearer view of the items he features:

-- his erstwhile "competitor" David Seaman is also using some software-enabled enhancements in the past fortnight,  offering the same kind of browser/screen view with webcam overlay. But he hasn't posted anything in a few days (which is most unlike his usual schedule of at least one video a day).

What is in the memo -- prepared by staff of Congressman Nunes? Due to its 'secret sources' we won't know the whole story of its confection. What we may find out is if it is a wholly partisan ploy to discredit the FBI ... in which case the department has several lines of "fighting back" ... from the Daily Beast's Betsy Woodruff:

The memo reportedly alleges Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein withheld information from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court about the FBI's request to renew for a warrant to spy on Trump campaign aide Carter Page.

The press--and the liberals--used to hold "speak truth to power" as a moral and political value, especially when questioning institutions like the FBI.

Now they are toadies for power, want everything in darkness behind closed doors, and consider President Trump as an impostor to the throne.

I heard somewhere that Trey Gowdy was one of the authors of the memo. If true, good. Thank God the author is not a fake news journalist...

I suppose they will claim that the FBI is the one speaking "truth to power" now because they see Trump as the power and the FBI as the resistance.
