David Seaman has had a fair bit of promotion on Objectivist Living, not that there's anything wrong with that. Here is his latest, from which you can glean a coherent narrative of his work.

Seaman had a recent appearance with the dean of American 'truther' media, Alex Jones, in a short and sweet update on the dread communication platform Twitter.

David Seaman is still beating the Pizzagate drum. In this video released yesterday, David takes on Aristotle's Wheel Paradox, er, the connection between dots and circles of Luciferian Pedophiles** ... and The Young Turks. The dots from which he makes his boogeyman are:

  1. The Young Turks received financial investment from a company led by Jeffrey Katzenberg.
  2. Katzenberg has some connection to John Podesta (whom David believes to be a Luciferian Pedophile**)
  3. The Young Turks are critical of President Trump

Vigilante mobs lynching "them" aside, I am sure there are good points to make about  'great work' from David Seaman. I am interested in that kind of argument.

I think he has fallen for a "Satanic Panic," and has a slophouse approach to  epistemology. For me, his "work" on the cult is unpersuasive.  

I don't connect all the dots between slophouse epistemology and  Satanic Panic  (aside from the thrill of a good lynching) perhaps, but my experience during the Satanic Panic of the last century leaves me very skeptical of David Seaman's priors:  that an international satanic cult child abuse conspiracy is real, that John Podesta is a Luciferian pedophile, that it all ties together via Comet Ping Pong. 

I am willing to overlook that David believes in God and loathes the atheist, but I still am left wanting for warrants supporting his claims about the cult conspiracy. It's an interesting thing psychologically that he has cut himself off from skepticism entirely, that he figures Soros-funded trolls infest his Youtube comments, so that he has turned off commentary. It's kind of sad that he has not moved on from errors, not broken fresh ground on items of general interest to an Objectivish person. 

So, I keep him alive here at OL, hoping for deployment of sharp tools of reason ... 

While that Pollyanna thought digests, an OL exclusive! President Trump interviewed by Mike Huckabee. It's a love-in.

Let's see. Let me do this by analogy.

When a guard dog owner hears the dog bark, the owner does not go out shooting all over the place. The owner tries to take a look to see what the fuss is about. If the dog is barking at a rabbit and not an intruder, does the owner get rid of the dog? Hell no. Dogs bark. That's what they do. Other domestic animals do not. An intruder will not wait for his presence to be verified by a rigorous investigation before doing damage. The intruder doesn't want to be noticed at all. A dog barking makes him very nervous.

Now, if you want to get somewhere fast with an animal, you use a horse. You ride a horse just like you arrive at hard truth with meticulous investigation constrained by logic. The problem is the horse doesn't bark. 

David Seaman is a guard dog and you keep bashing him for not being a horse. And by extension, you make the erroneous presupposition that everyone who watches him expects him to be a horse, so they are fair game for wondering how they can be so stupid as to mistake a bark for a ride.

In my experience they don't. What's more, I imagine the vast majority of the people who follow Seaman, Alex Jones, etc., don't have this misunderstanding. They know the difference between a dog and a horse and they use both.

If a barking dog detects an intruder, they will look, then they will shoot. They don't need a horse for that. They'll need the horse later to take them to the courthouse to prosecute the intruder.

Ah, silly me, I forgot about the rabbit. No problem, though. You won't find many folks riding a horse to a courthouse to prosecute a rabbit...

:) 

(PS: As to the mainstream press, that dog has turned out to be a weasel, but it still prances about as if it is a horse... And, people keep trying to ride the damn thing, but they can't even get the saddle on anymore...)

Argument from analogy is fraught with -- how can I put this -- imperfection, especially whenever a false analogy is put forth. It can avoid construction of a more compelling argument.

Especially if one has a prejudice and needs to keep his mind shut against the principle of charity or a different context.

But let me offer an unwanted perspective, anyway. :evil: 

Value comes from use.

People like me value folks like Seaman because they serve as guard dogs to uncover the shenanigans of elitists, governments, crony old-boys clubs, etc. And often some real danger (like massive surveillance state stuff and so on). 

People like you value like Seaman (or so it appears to me) because they serve as examples of the intellectual dreck people like me watch, which implies your mental capacities are superior to mine. And that feels awfully damn good.

Different uses lead to different valuations.

I'm open to changing guard dogs, which is why I run hot and cold on them, and I don't mind when they are wrong. I keep them around for their bark and I love it when they shake up the ruling class when it has self-serving dishonest stuff to hide. When they get too far out there, I move on to other more interesting things and look in later.

I doubt you would ever be open to abandoning the thrill calling them and their audiences doofuses, though. Unless maybe you can display some magnanimous virtue in public and show that you truly pity them, poor things...

Once again, different uses and all...
