Atheist Delusions by David Bentley Hart
I just finished this new book by Eastern Orthodox theologian and historian David Bentley Hart. Not really a response to the New Atheists, rather a review of the various claims against Christian history such as the Inquisition, Galileo, Hypatia, the library of Alexandria, Christianity and war, Christianity and science, etc. It's very well written.
In fact, not only did medieval Christians not burn pagan texts, the literary remains of ancient Rome were hoarded and jealously guarded in monastic libraries . . . . the writings of Vergil, Ovid, Cicero, Pliny, Horace, Statius, Persius, Lucan, Suetonius, Seneca, Martial, Apuleius, Juvenal, Terence . . . as well as portions of Plato, Aristotle [were preserved] . . . And it was in consequence of the historical misfortune, not of willfull rejection, that more had not survived.
