Quo Vidas

I have not seen this movie recently. I saw it when it came out in the early 50ths. It had Rome burning. Christians being thrown to the lions. Emperor Nero being totally off the wall. It also had a love story which being only eight I completely ignored.

When I saw the movie later in life I found I could still ignore the love story between Marcus and Lygia. I could not ignore the love store between Petronius and Eunice.

Robert Taylor and Deborah Kerr could be ignored. Leo Genn could not be. He played Petronius. Peter Ustinov chewed up the scenery as Nero. Leo Genn was totally believable in his part.

The Roman games in The Sign of the Cross are more decedent but the clash of values in Quo Vidas is more interesting.
