Sad Day - Frediano

I just learned by private message that Frediano, who posted here and at other O-Land sites, passed away at the end of last year (Dec. 31).

I, like the person who sent me the message (who I thank and will not name unless he indicates he doesn't mind), assumed Frediano had not posted for a awhile because he was busy with other things.

Frediano wrote a novel and posted about it on RoR in 2012 (see here). I didn't know about it, so I just got a copy.

His obituary:

Frederick G. Bartlett Jr. - 1955 - 2015

My condolences to all who loved him.

I know we did, not close love because we were never that close, but love all the same.

Frediano was one of the good guys.

We miss him.

Michael & Kat

Incidentally, Frediano posted on OL the day he passed away, see here.

He certainly sounded fine. I wonder what caused his death because he was only 59.

His last words on OL:

Fred
right wing public secularist advocate of individual liberty and freedom

What a great way to sign off.

Because he wrote so well and at length, I suspect heart attack or blocking stroke or burst artery. That's assuming not an accident.

I thought he was busy…. He had been away for some weeks a year or so ago and I emailed him to check on him and he was just busy back then. So, I did not think too much of his absence this time around. We had some good exchanges on OL and offline. I will miss him.

Same here. I thought he was working on something interesting and tried to look him up to find out what it was. I found his obit instead. I also found your blog "Necessary Facts". Interesting. Fred was very interesting and spot on, I liked him very much.

Fred was one of those guys I felt was going to live forever, typing away with a can of beer next to his keyboard.

He had dry wit that could re-frame any phenomenon and make it understandable to anyone. While I often passed over posts from others, I never passed-up the chance to read Fred's. Each of his post's left an imprint upon my mind and it didn't hurt that he could make me laugh, too.

Brant,

He was a drinker, so that may have contributed. (Assuming he did die from one of your listed causes).

Postscript: It's eerie how close Fred resembles my father. My father is also a drinker. I started to read Fred's book, but I never got through it. I'll pick it up again.

.

Sad news indeed. We enjoyed each other's thinking and information here and at Rebirth of Reason on and on. Sad for his loved ones. Sad his mind and zest are gone from these sites, though at least we have his past contributions.

Frediano wrote about the St. Louis riots:

So in a year, will folks be complaining about living in burned out slums, with no opportunity? I hope they enjoy the closet full of crap they looted. Who in their right mind is going to invest anything at all in these neighborhoods? A new opportunity only for government subsidy. Forget Papa Johns, here comes the free government cheese.

These riots changed my mind and 'raised my awareness.' There was a part of me that was thinking, "I don't think these people are making this shit up." But that's changed; I am now 'aware' that these are some of the biggest dumbasses on the planet, and see what the cops have been dealing with on the street. Dumbasses.

end quote

Hear, Hear Frediano. Very funny and true. They are dumbasses. Yet, I guess I am talking to you and you are departed, but I dont think I am a dumbass. So long, Pal.

Fred – 12/ 29/14

The meaning of my life...

Not, “the” meaning of life: rather, the meaning of my life.

Life: pluralities.

My life: singular.

"My life" can have such a thing as “the meaning,” and, as well, at different times, different meanings. In the end, the sum total of those meanings, as well as, any lingering influence in my children and socius, is “the meaning.”

Fred was not just smart and witty, but also sweet and kind. I'm glad to have known him and to have called him my friend.

His book is a bit meandering, as his posts often were, but I enjoyed it all the same. He had another novel planned based on a real-life murder mystery. He always said he couldn't finish it because the murder was unsolved, and there were so many inexplicable details surrounding it.

I shall dearly miss his discourses on the plumbing, plumbers of state and loved his wit and his way of thinking.

RIP Fred.
