Full Version: The Guru Game (then some Marlon Sanders)
Objectivist Living > Objectivist Living > Humor - OL LOLOLOLOL

I just found a thinker who has me enchanted. His name is Blair Warren. He has a blog called Crooked Wisdom.

Here is his post for June 21, 2008.

QUOTE
The Guru Game

The Players:

Guru: a person who devotes his life to figuring out new ways to convince others he already has life figured out.

Disciple: a person who devotes his life to discovering new ways to prevent himself from learning the definition of a guru.

Dumbass: a person who devotes his life to exposing and mocking the guru game instead of shutting his mouth and profiting from it.

How to Play:

Everyone joins hands and spins in circles. The game ends when the money stops flowing. The guru always wins, but there is good clean fun to be had by all.

Want to play? I’ll be the dumbass, as usual.

Kerrrriiist, that sounds like the Objectivist movement!

Except for one detail. Everyone's a dumbass because no money flows at all (unless it's a donation). Ever!

Here is a real deal guru in Internet marketing, Marlon Sanders.

This thing tickled me and I didn't know where to put it, so here is as good a place as any. The delivery of this guy is so overcooked that he's as funny as all get out. And the weird thing about it from a pedagogic standpoint is that you remember the lesson very easily from his manner.

We all forget the basics and screw up at times. That's just part of being human. So having this kind of image in mind is great reinforcement in addition to the wonderful vibes.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.

Here is another gem by Marlon:

Mastermind Lounge presents Marlon Sanders

Only some of this is funny (hilarious, actually). The rest is dead serious. We can never escape the basics, no matter how sophisticated we become. This not only goes for Internet marketers. It goes for Objectivists and everybody else as well.

That is even how I see the ever-recurring science versus philosophy dispute, which is why I never really understand it. I know people forget the basics at times. I do too. But why do some people always want to compete the basics against the sophisticated stuff as if it were possible to have one without the other in the modern world?

In my own life, I know I need a kick in the pants like Marlon's talk sometimes—and in more than one area. It's refreshing to get my attention focused on basic reality when I start floating off.

I wish Marlon had been hired as a coach by Objectivist writers starting years and years ago . Seriously. The movement would have been much more organized and successful. That goes for almost everybody—all sides of the fence—with only very few exceptions. See the video and you will understand why. (Here's a hint: "Get the product done...")
