"gulch; Just to give you a hard time I'll stay around. As I have said you are not the only person concerned with a free society."
Chris,
You have been here much longer than I have. I am sure you have better reasons to be here than to just give me a "hard time."
I am troubled by any "disturbance in the force." Generally speaking I thought we are all on the same side in this struggle so I see no point to invective. It is one thing to disagree. My first encounter with an Objectivist included his making the point that "there are no contradictions in the universe." If we disagree about some issue one or both of us must be mistaken. Neither is necessarily evil for holding an opinion which might be in error. These things are supposed to be resolvable using reason and rational evidence.
I was once hopeful and excited about the Objectivist movement which has progresses but hasn't grown as much in the last half century as it ought to have. There is no one to blame. We all did what we chose to do and many had other priorities such as raising a family and pursuing careers which did not involve spreading the word. So be it.
So despite the fact that the antidote for many of the major ills of society have been known to a minority of the populace in the form of Objectivist philosophy and Austrian free market economics, still the prevailing philosophy is the Judeo Christian theology and its manifestation in politics and social policy.
The Marxist socialist mystic altruist collectivist communists in the persons of Obama and Hillary Clinton and assorted Democrats in both the House and the Senate as well as the State Governorships and legislature are in power and it has become acceptable and business as usual to ignore the limits on the government the Founders intended by enumerating the powers granted to the Congress. The Republicans have abandoned any moral justification or commitment to defend Capitalism with few exceptions.
So I know many of you find fault with Ron Paul and his movement the Campaign For Liberty. However there needs to be a sign of hope for young people growing up in the midst of this time with collectivism on the rise and individualism in disrepute. Calls for altruistic self sacrifice are heard emanating from Obama predictably given his mindset.
I had occasion to speak to a young man today who turned out to be a college student at a local college. I had told him about the Campaign For Liberty and how its founder is a congressman who would vote "No!" if he thought the power being sought by the Congress was not among those powers enumerated in Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution and did so over 300 times in his ten terms in the Congress. As is true of so many of Ron Paul supporters and of those who hear about him from me and others within the movement, that performance makes him stand apart from the usual behavior of politicians and characterizes him as a man of courage and integrity who is loyal to certain principles.
When I mentioned to him that the movement started with groups of supporters on 40 campuses and now is on over 125 campuses he said he had not heard of it in his college which is a major one in Worcester MA. He appeared to be enthused and I told him that if he could find two other students there who shared his enthusiasm for this movement they could start an affiliate in the Young Americans for Liberty www.YALiberty.org which is a sister organization of the Campaign For Liberty www.campaignforliberty.com.
So I passed the torch and a spark now exists which might lead to another college having an ongoing support group for the YAL and the C4L. This could lead to its spread to surrounding colleges and to growth of the movement within the minds of many students who have their lives ahead of them.
As I have said many times. Join the movement now or join it later or don't ever join it. Be part of the movement which is growing and could grow exponentially in the next few months or years. If it does spread as a movement which encourages its adherents to read and learn about the free market by reading the works of Ludwig von Mises, Hayek, Bastiat, Hazlitt, Ayn Rand, George Reisman, Ron Paul, Hornberger, Sheldon Richman, and so many others, this could lay the foundation for the kind of social change we all want to witness.
Despite our disagreements on this, that or the other issue. I don't mind your shots at me. Keeps me on my toes.

Near the end, you'll have to go around and apologize to all the other forums you wrote on.
Ultimately, it is a sickness of the soul.
