Gulch; Why do you let George W. Bush and Alan Greenspan off the hook?
John McCain didn't help either.
Chris,
Bush is gone and was a strong competitor with Obama for the appellation of being an empty suit. I doubt that Bush read any books in his whole college career and certainly never understood the Constitution. He was both pathetic and incompetent, but it is easy to criticize.
Greenspan had written articles which appeared in Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal but it seems that he never really grasped the meaning of Objectivism. I find it hard to believe that he did more than read Atlas Shrugged or did he just skim it. Probably skipped Galt's speech altogether. Who knows what he thought he was doing all those years. Another empty suit. Or, but I hesitate to call him a traitor because I don't think he ever was on our side in this struggle. He was never one of us. Never, and he still isn't.
How many of us are there? It is encouraging to know that Objectivism exists and that a handful of us know it and grasp its significance in the real world. Many libertarians may not be Objectivists for whatever reason. They may have come to their advocacy of individual freedom from other places ideologically. Many are still religious but are profreedom.
I just came from a meeting of the Mass Liberty Preservation Association. They decided to start their meeting with a pledge of allegiance.
Now you have to understand that I started public school in Brooklyn NY in 1944 and said the pledge of allegiance in assembly every week for years until Eisenhower added a couple of words to it. So I was saying "one nation, indivisible" while everyone else was saying, "one nation, under God."
Individual freedom lovers all, but I was alone.
At times like that I feel a kinship with Kira after she was shot, knowing what was possible in the world.
Next meeting I will say "Indivisible" again, but I will say it louder!
Fight on!
