Summer 2010 Conference Appearances

Recommended Posts

Barbara-

I note that both you and Nathaniel are scheduled to give presentations at the FreedomFest 2010 conference in Las Vegas (July 8-10), but not at the TAS/FreeMinds2010 conference (June 30-July 8) in Alexandria, Va.

Since there is not a time conflict, I was wondering if your (and Nathaniel's) choice of the Las Vegas conference indicates something other than: 1) geographical proximity of Las Vegas to southern California; 2) a philosophical difference or preference for one group over the other  ; or 3) an unannounced surprise/pop-in  and presentation (and perhaps, receiving Lifetime Achievement Awards for Outstanding Contributions to Objectivism and Best Book on Objectivism in the Last Fifty Years for The Vision of Ayn Rand) at the coinciding ARIan OCON conference in L.V.?

If it's a secret, feel free to respond anonymously in this section.

Jerry B,

Nathaniel Branden has now been confirmed as a speaker at Free Minds 2010.

Robert C

Oops!! Just got the email from Fred Stitt, Nathaniel Branden is going to be presenting at FreeMinds2010! And a lot more has been added! See below:

Nathaniel Branden, many new added events at Free Minds 2010.

We're very pleased to announce that Nathaniel Branden is our newest

addition to the FreeMinds2010 speaker program. He will join us

to speak on "The Missing Link in Objectivism."

This will be a valuable contribution to our ongoing examination of

unfinished business and work in progress in Objectivism.

Also, since our last announcement, many new special breakout

meetings and presentations have been added, such as:

- The Modern Atheist Movement

- Genius

- Homeschooling

- A Tribute to John Allison, Objectivist Banker

- Objectivist Theory of Investing

- The Nature of Intelligence

- Mind-Centered Education: The Legacy of Maria Montessori

- Libertarianism and the Human Rights Movements

- Physics, Art, and the Singularity

- Nanotechnology, Singularity, and Synthetic Life

- Implications of the Intenet/Social Media for Objectivism

- Philosophy of Science and Scientific Method

- The Critical Thinking Movement

- Aristotle's Children: Saviors of Human Progress

- Marsha Enright's College of the United States

- Creative Problem Solving Technologies: How and Why They Work

- The Free Minds Institute's Worldwide Higher Education Program

- Psycho-Epistemology

These and additional presentations are about to added to a daily

schedule that will be posted at www.FreeMinds2010.org next week.

Meanwhile:

Free Minds 2010 speaker Anne Heller has been receiving considerable

press attention. Her book -- Ayn Rand and the World She Made --

has been praised by reviewers in The New York Times, Time,

The New Yorker, New York Magazine, The San Francisco Chronicle,

and The New Criterion, to name a few.

Not all the acclaim is favorable to Ayn Rand, but Anne's book provides an

even keeled perspective on the founder of Objectivism and illuminates

the sources of schisms and subsequent rancor that slowed the growth of

Objectivism as an intellectual movement. There will be considerable

discussion of such issues at the conference.

UPDATED HOTEL INFORMATION

The Alexandria Hilton Old Town, which is only a couple blocks from

the conference venue, Embassy Suites, has lower rates for the time

being, as low as $139 per night. Visit www.AlexandriaHilton.com for

Sorry, these rates were not available previously and may not last, so

check with the Alexandria Hilton Old Town as soon as possible.

I wonder if TAS has permission from Boris Vallejo to use his copyrighted art, and if they have his permission to distort the colors and to use such an awkward, artless cropping of the image, which not only aesthetically vandalizes the piece, but also conveniently eliminates his signature and conspicuous copyright notice.
