Chocolate Boxes by Michael Newberry

I love visual things that have anything to do with light. The surface of the water in the glass jar is reflecting the light bulb and the aluminum shade of the clamp lamp. What I found amazing was that the light bulb was not the lightest thing reflected but rather its glow. The heart-shaped bluish-gray form is the bulb. Anyway, this piece has layer after layer of motifs, reflections, refractions...and I was totally in heaven playing with all those subtleties. I particularly like the downward-looking composition.

I really like this piece. It is very well done and quite beautiful. The similarity of those gorgeous patterns in the boxes and the cloth along with the downward perspective make for a very interesting composition. It is a simple arrangement with a very luxurious feel and a lot of movement. The reflection in the water is has a quality to it that makes your imagination wander. Inky sees a snowman, I see money. I definitely want to go out and get me some chocolate!
