Ellen Stuttle
Further material re Rand's possession of a typewriter --From the post next above:Letterspg. 3[bold emphasis added]Unfortunately, no other letters remain until 1934, when AR purchased a typewriter and began to make carbon copies of her correspondence.I had been wondering how she produced typescripts of film stories and of We the Living (completed in late 1933) - using a borrowed typewriter? or maybe one at the office where she worked? She could hardly have afforded to hire a typist in those years. While looking for other material in the biographical essay in Who Is Ayn Rand?, I came across this:Who Is Ayn Rand?pg. 182[bold emphasis added]In early summer [1929], [Rand] obtained an office job in the wardrobe department of RKO pictures. [....] Frank O'Connor was working at studios with some regularity. They were able to permit themselves an occasional luxury: they bought their first radio and their first car - the latter a second-hand convertible, more expensive than they could fully afford; Frank ordered a desk to be made for Ayn - she still works at it today - and gave her a portable typewriterEllen
