Newberry
I was Googling to see how old Doris Lessing was when she died *, and I came across this article which I hadn't seen before:On Doris Lessing and Not Saying Thank You, by Alexandra Schwartz, The New Yorker, November 20, 2013.I wondered why Lessing wasn't awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature years before 2007. The article says:Her name had been floated for years; the Nobel committee had made it clear to her that she was never going to win.Hmm.Ellen* Lessing was 94 when she died, dates 22 October 1919 - 17 November 2013.I had thought I had read a book of hers, but after following this link and checking amazon I must be mistaken. In "Read Inside" she was telling a story about bull imported to Zimbabwe, I was hooked. So I got that, Prisons We Choose to Live Inside, and the Grass is Singing. Ellen thanks for your enthusiasm. Newberry
What a sublime talent, what a unique soul she was.Couldn't agree more, though I haven't gotten to her fiction yet. She is scarily authentic in her quest to understanding humanity, what a pleasure to read her.
