Michael Stuart Kelly
Turn Photos or Other Images into SketchesI got a nifty little program the other day called Sketch Drawer (you can get it here*).What it does is turn an image into a drawing. Our artists on OL will probably groan, but for those of us who are not visual artists or Photoshop geeks, but want to use images without worrying about copyrights, this can be quite useful. Or maybe do a different kind of avatar. There are several good uses. For instance, on fiddling around with the presets, here is my avatar in pencil:Or maybe I wanted to goof on myself and become a modern-art monster: I can do that in color, too, but you get the idea.Incidentally, I don't mean to imply that if you use this program on a copyrighted image, it would automatically remove the copyright protection. I'm thinking more along the foillowing lines. If you learn how to do layers in an image editor (Photoshop for paid, Gimp for free, or any number of other editors), you can take parts of copyrighted images you like, process them as sketches in Sketch Drawer, and mount them with others to create a new image in a manner that no one will be able to detect the origin of the part you processed. Certain copyright nerds might not agree, but there's just too much stuff out there to worry about where your model came from when people can't detect the use at all. There are other resources out there that do sketch transformation and I've even mucked around with a few, but I can say I really like this one.Michael* btw -- That is not an affiliate link, althoiugh they are giving me a full copy on a promotion for reviewing it here. Using the unlicensed version, I was able to do this "Cabbage Dinner" from the larger"Colossal Collage" (below):* btw -- That is not an affiliate link, althoiugh they are giving me a full copy on a promotion for reviewing it here. Michael Stuart Kelly
Just in case anyone is interested in the graphics stuff, I just got another cool program from the same people called "Photo Stamp Remover" (see here). The good part about this program is not just being able to remove watermarks from images--and believe it or not, sometimes there are legitimate reasons for wanting to do this, but you can also remove people, objects, and so on. And for the fun quirky stuff I like, I believe I will be able to pump out adulterated graphics galore all in an instant. The only problem is coming up with the ideas.Obviously you can do this work in Photoshop or Gimp or other graphics programs, but this little thing was half-price when I got it and it is very user-friendly. It's for quick work, not photo-geek stuff. When it started a few years ago, Photo Stamp Remover had some limitations and got some negative reviews, but it seems like they have greatly improved over time.Michael
BaalChatzaf
Scan for the borders and darken them up. That is fairly easy to implement.
