Noah unbelievably bad and no redeeming moments!

I am assuming that since no one has posted this movie yet that everyone has gotten the message.

But just in case I thought I would comment, having just endured this pathetic rendering, that you should think twice before wasting your time and money on it.

Russell Crowe is a draw but here he becomes monomaniacal in following his thinking that The Almighty wants him to eradicate the human race once and for all.

Talk about religious fanaticism!

Perhaps the environmental lobby played a role in writing the script.

I haven't seen the movie so maybe there are likely extraneous plot elements that I don't know about. But I have read the book and didn't find anything there about Noah killing off the human race.

No one was prevented from building their own boat if they wanted to do it.

That story has far reaching implications even today and inspired me to build my own "ark". If a critical mass of people degenerate into animals, don't think for a moment that there will be any hesitation to "flush the toilet" again.

The promise was that it would never again be by water...

...but that doesn't rule out fire.

The subtitle of this dreadful movie is: Noah becomes a Gaiah Lover.

The technical effects were o.k. by the story line was dreadful.

The book? Is that The Book? That best seller?

Unless I am missing something that's the wryest comment you have ever made!

I heard the Rock Monsters who looked like the Thing from the Fantastic Five were pretty cool.

As was a psychopathic Noah trying to kill his family because he can't stand people, only animals.

Peta probably likes the film.

Michael

Yep the Paul Erlich crowd ... humans need to be culled, or, eliminated to preserve the planet...absurd...

From the reviews I have seen, Captain America 2 is an anti-government film.

I think it includes a fight against Obama-like kill lists. Have to see it, though.

Seems like we have big-government apologists haunting OL all of a sudden.

Michael

It is. Doesn't mean it didn't suck though...

First there was the claim that in the movie God wanted Noah to eradicate the human race, then you say Noah was a psychopath who tried to kill his family.

So again I'm asking... were these plot features actually in the movie?

Greg,

I haven't seen the movie, but I did watch about three radio shows (I get video of them) of Glenn Beck where he discussed Noah.

Paramount requested he (along with other "opinion-makers" and celebrities) attend a preview before it was released to the public. He said he wanted to give it a good review because the people were so darn nice to him, but he could not. And they made it clear they were prepared for him to give a negative review. They just wanted a chance to pitch him since he has such a large audience within their target.

The things I mentioned are from his analyses. He said Noah was a psychopath on a mission to kill his family and discussed a climactic point where one of his sons confronted him and said, "Do it! Go on and do it!" That sort of thing. And it was this confrontation that convinced him not to kill them. Glenn said he realized a lot had to be invented because the original is so short, but asked what this had to do with any conceivable meaning of the Noah story.

He also commented that it was not so much an pro-environmentalism film as it was an anti-human pro-animal film.

He had great fun with the Rock Monsters hauling wood and Nephilim (who apparently got a huge role with lots of special effects in the film). And I think there was some other stuff like a forest being planted and sprouting within two years to get enough wood for the ark and so on.

I might go see Noah, but only when I can get my spirit up for something like Lord of the Rings. That's what it sounds like Hollywood did with it.

Greg et al,

No one knows what "God" wants! Noah has witnessed man's inhumanity toward men and women. It is Noah's notion that God wants only the innocent animals to go on living. He starts out with a wife and three sons. They pick up a little girl who survived some sort of massacre and she ultimately grows up and falls in love with his oldest son Shem. She becomes pregnant and thats when Noah threatens to kill her baby once it is born if it is a girl but not if it is a boy!

Spoiler Alert!

She turns out to deliver two babies but Noah's wife tells Noah it is a boy in a futile attempt to save it. Noah believes he is on a mission that he was chosen by God to do because God knew that he would complete the task. He got the idea that human kind were meant to die out. He comes to his senses when he tries to stab the babies held in their mothers arms because he says he felt nothing in his heart but love for them. It was the mother of the daughters who tells him to get it over with and not to be taking so long to kill them as she holds them close to her.

In an earlier scene Ham, if you can believe a Jewish boy carries that name, despairs that he has no wife. This was just before the flood came. He ventures into the teeming throng of people who are outside the ark, where you witness women being dragged off to be raped. Ham falls into a ravine where there are dead bodies and also a most attractive young girl about his age who at first holds him off with a stone in her hand. But he offers her food he brought and tells her he will not hurt her. When it starts to rain they run for the ark but she is caught in a trap which holds her foot and Ham is unable to free her from it. They hear the mob running toward the ark. Then Noah appears but rather then free the girl he rescues Ham and leaves her behind to be trampled by the mob.

Gratuitous inhumanity! Not in the Bible! My wife swears she will never see another movie written and directed by this Darren Aronofsky misanthope.

In the time of Noah there were NO Jews. Abraham was the first Jew. He was, it is also claimed, the first Muslim.

Noah's son Shem was the forbear of Abraham ten generations after the Flood, as the story is related.

I know.

I've had NO posting functions for some time now. What I've been doing is clicking on "more repy options", enabling HTML, and then cut and paste works within the post window... but nothing else works. Everything else I'm doing manually.

enabling HTML seems to have allowed me to copy and paste as usual. Thanks.

And thanks to everyone for the heads up about Noah. I thought it might be a decent disaster film, though I would not want younger children to see it.

I was just watching the end of “Deep Impact” again. It’s the story of an asteroid hitting the earth. Tea Leoni was OK, and so was Robert Deval as the astronaut, but Morgan Freeman as the first black President was outstanding. I liked it a lot, though not as much as the Jodie Foster movie “Contact.”

If you remember the story line in “Deep Impact” a million people are picked to go to a cave in the mountains to survive the fire and flood. Two hundred thousand of that group of people were chosen for their “value” like scientists, doctors, some soldiers, artists, government types, etc. The rest were randomly picked by Social Security number. No one over 50 was picked but everyone is expected, in every country, to seek to survive on their own. The value of younger, baby producing humans being selected is understandable, but I would not see much value in politicians other than the President. Well unless they are an optimologist like the wonderful Senator Rand Paul.

The movie's wave that will hit America is expected to be up to 3500 feet high. If you were the President, who would you pick, besides yourself, to be allowed admittance to the “secure location?” What would you do in the very possible scenario of an asteroid hitting the earth? How would you prepare physically and mentally? As a minimum, because there is a greater chance of an asteroid hitting the water, higher ground would be one advantageous place to be.

Just as every culture has creation myths every culture has disaster myths. A giant flood has not happened but we have been hit by asteroids in geologically recent times.

Peter and Greg,

Support answered me quickly. (Yay! :) )

Are you using Internet Explorer 11?

Apparently there is a glitch for copy/paste when using this browser on IPB. However, there is a patch (called a hook) and, following instructions from support, I have installed it.

Now it should work (I hope). Simply do "hard refresh (CTRL+F5 on a Windows machine) [on] the posting screen" to quote the message I received. I don't know if you have to do this each time you post or only one time right now if you don't want to close OL and open it again.

Please fiddle with this and let me know how it works out.

Thanks,

Michael

Even before I came to the conclusion that a supernatural being was an illogical concept (see, for example, George H. Smith, Atheism: The Case Against God, p. 28), I had decided that if God of the Old Testament existed, with his destruction of millions by the flood and the fire and brimstone in Genesis and by the Angel of Death in Exodus, he must be a homicidal maniac.

Peter,

The New York Times had a story about those seeking the GOP nomination for president in 2016 who attended a rally in New Hampshire. Three times they referred to Doctor Rand Paul, Opthalmologist, as Mr. Paul.

They surely realize he is a physician just as they knew his father, Ron Paul is an Obstetrician, but they always referred to him as Mr. Paul too.

I just found a gentle way to correct your misspelling while castigating the NYT for its disrespect.

On another subject, Francisco, did you ever wonder how Adam and Eve managed to multiply without any incest among their progeny?

From the time I was a boy I never believed, nor was I enticed to believe in the supernatural. Natural explanations suffice to account for everything in this world such as life having occurred here by the grace of the Laws of Nature.
