Brant Gaede
A US navy ship? I understand US cargo ships are rare for foreign registry and crews are the economical way to go for legal reasons and wage differences.Yep. War with Iran is coming. We are getting ready for it. One way might be to refer to a US cargo ship that isn't a US cargo ship as if it were one.--Brantmore data, please
Mikee
If only there were a free people somewhere willing to do something about shit like this... Oh, all gone Galt (in their minds)...Should be simple: sink a Iran ship every day until they release the ship they pirated. See how long they want to play this game. Morons. Brant Gaede
Don't worry. Data and facts will not stop the war. The Korean War was caused by State Department stupidity as was the first Gulf War. Vietnam was pure LBJ mendacity. The second US war with Iraq was caused by our President Bush jr., a religious fanatic. Obama gave it all back, but that happened in Vietnam too because of US moral exhaustion caused by its own lies generated by the White House mostly through the Johnson and Nixon Administrations. Made President Ford helpless. Ford wouldn't have known what to do anyway, even if he had been King of America. North Vietnam waited until Nixon was gone and made two attempts, the last one came a winner.--Brant
Selene
LONDON (Reuters) - The ship manager for the container vessel boarded by Iranian forces declined to comment on the status of the vessel on Tuesday. The Pentagon said earlier that the Marshall Islands-flagged Maersk Tigris was boarded by Iranian forces in the Gulf. The Maersk Tigris is managed by Singapore-based Rickmers Ship Management, which is part of Hamburg-based Rickmers Group. A Rickmers Group spokeswoman declined to comment when contacted by Reuters about the vessel.A spokesman for the world's biggest container group Maersk Line said the vessel was on timecharter to Maersk Line, declining further comment.Ship tracking data on Reuters showed the vessel was bound for Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates, although it was still close to the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas at 1530 GMT (1130 ET) on Tuesday. Its previous port was listed as Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.(Reporting by Jonathan Saul; Editing by Janet Lawrence)@YahooCanadaNews on Twitter, become a fan on Facebook

GregSince you listen to Mark, as you well know, he explicitly states that we are already in WWIII.I've been convinced of that for quite some time.A...If you mean a Cold War variation, yes. If you mean it all blows up and becomes all out war, obviously not yet.WWI, WWII, WWIII (to be) are generally part of the greater conflict we can call "The Great War" ("Greater War"?) which is not the Great War WWI came out of when the US joined in. This overarching conflict is out of the felt need for a moralistic moralizing country--the United States--to make the world right by its lights. It's not for loot--except maybe for oil--but replaces or displaces mere geo-political considerations save as realized by a perverted continuation and maintenance of the British Empire such as it has become. Hence WWI and the rise of totalitarianism and then WWII and all since. The world has been bent to its will. China will threaten that if the world is lucky enough to get there from what is going on now. Then the China threat will slowly recede for sundry reasons including demographics. Moral force plus tremendous economic power plus military power all mixed up in ingrained righteousness ruling the waves. Hail Britannia!--Brant
Selene
Frankly, I would identify the first seeds of WWIII is connected to the 1979 Theocratic taking of Iran. Then the spread to the Iraq-Iran conflict which merely drew in the rest of the world, particularly us, which made it a World War that has enlarged to Asia, EurAsia and Africa. That is my take.A...

Brant Gaede
The major area of concern for "us" is Japan, Korea and, most importantly, Taiwan. The Chinese military goes nuts in the head over Taiwan. The South China Sea is only of major concern to the countries bordering it. It tends to be more optional to the US. Wax on, wax off. The threat of communist expansion is always ideological compulsion. The expansion of this now so-called communist country is much more pure geo-politics. The idea of exporting communism as such through state policy is all but dead. It almost happened in Grenada--the US stopped it cold. Almost Venezuela, but the military is running and ruining everything there now, behind the curtain of a puppet. Communism is now a spent force containing itself and undergoing natural transmogrification into something more humanely rational uglying it as it goes. The fascists of Islam, however, are another matter. The only place in the world where war might be necessary and rational, as in there is nothing else to do with them, is where they are. There is no excuse for war with Russia and China is doable for the not doing of war, at least for now, but ISIS needs smashing. As for Iran? Look, Obama didn't support the Iranians throwing off their religious rulers in 2009 when they were about to do that until they understood they'd get no help or encouragement, so now we have this bomb problem that might get bombed.--Brantthree major areas of US interest and contention, any one of which may lead to nuclear warfare and none with much excuse or justification: the Israelis should build a lot of bomb and fallout shelters and the US Navy and Coast Guard greatly expanded for coastal defense before a cargo ship brings an H-Bomb into Norfolk or NY Harbor--or San Diego, LA, SF, Portland or Seattle, for that's what the next 9/11 might try to morph into--or, we could just wait and see what happens; this country can afford such a disaster--sort of--not Israel

william.scherk
There is no excuse for war with Russia and China is doable for the not doing of war, at least for now, but ISIS needs smashing. In the last forty-eight hours, some major shifts and changes in the theatre of war. The trigger was a terror-bombing in the Turkish border-region city of Suruc. The Turkish authorities have made some swift changes in their policy and practice:The US/Coalition air forces are now able to use the Incirlik air base for sorties into SyriaThe Turkish air force has begun to bomb death-cult ISIS forces in northern SyriaThe Turkish air force has begun to bomb the terrorist PKK camps in the north of Iraq (in the Kurdish Region of Iraq, where the government is the anti-PKK PUK)ISIS has declared war on Turkish targets, via terror-bombingsTurkey has long been seen as a conduit for jihadi forces opposing Syrian president Assad. With the ISIS-bombing in Suruc, whatever pragmatic collusion there was between ISIS and Ankara is over.

william.scherk
One side-effect, Tony, is that the ceasefire between the armed Kurdish forces (PKK) and the Turkish forces is over. This means a return to terror inside Turkey and another complication to the already complicated situation of Turkey's Kurds. And most likely a return to the polls for Turkey ...
