My computer locked itself up and won't respond to anything because I forgot my password. I thought it was my email password but it is obviously the computer password and what can I do, I don't think I ever knew it....if anyone has an answer please hurry, I am at the library and only have half an hour this session, at least I like libraries

TIA

Are you seeking an administrator's password? What is your operating system?

I'm going to assume it is a Microsoft Administrator's password given your description in post 1.

I've never had to reset a Microsoft Admin password, but I'll do a bit of research. How much time do you have left?

If it is a Microsoft Administrator's password, and you have never set one (most people do not because it is not needed. Its only purpose is to prevent other people from using you computer.

So, assuming that you never set one,..when the screen says "Enter your Administrator's password," Don't enter anything in that space - leave it blank!

Instead, just hit "Enter" on your keyboard. If you have never created an Administrator's password, the PC will just continue to load (if you leave the space empty).

Try it!

Nada. It is a shared computer and my son does not know any passwords either. I just keep getting the maddeningly seren Maritime skly.

Then there are no passwords! Apparently one was never created. The Administrator's Password" is not the same as what you may have used in Google, in AOL, etc. But, what is the operating system for your PC? If you do not know, turn it off, wait about 5 seconds or so, and then turn it back on. Watch the screen as it comes up. The first thing (or one of the first things) it will show is the name of the operating system. Probably Windows XP, Windows 7, or Windows *, if it is quite new.

Write down the name of the operating system. Different versions of Windows have different methods regarding an Administrator's password, so you have to know which one.

Then, let us know. Also the name of the computer (No, not "Mabel," "Fred,'.etcetera. Or some cuss word.). I mean the model, Don't know? It's most likely printed on a label somewhere on the computer, most likely, the bottom side.

If all else fails, and we cannot help you, and there is no documentation that originally came with the computer. - Then you will need to find a geek or a computer repair service to help you.

Anyway, let us know.

Jerry,

It worked, or something did! So I am back in my room, safe within my womb etc. I just kept pushing the button and finally it went off nd then on again and was OK. (It is Windows btw)

All my computer problems have come from On/Off so I am just going to leave the wretched machine on all the time.

Thx for help.

safe within my womb etc.

Reminds me of the test tube baby who had a womb with a view...

Carole,

Glad your PC now works.

But it is just lulling you into a false sense of security, you know.
