Reviewing my recent postings on OL I've decided I've been much too combative and reactive almost to the point of being obnoxious. This is not me; it is me under temporary personal stress that won't last very much longer--that will be relieved by the passage of time if nothing else.

So, therefore, I will not post again on OL until June. I will also be able to evaluate if there is some kind of addiction on my part posting here. I think there is. I'm willing to indulge such an addiction, but I need to understand it if I have it. Internet postings are a form of social media. I avoid the others, but might I do better reading more good or great books which require much more thinking and evaluation than chasing an irrationalist around and around the block--which impart some value to me as opposed to intellectual entertainment out of what is already in my head? I think I have come up with some good if not original thoughts here, at least about Ayn Rand and Objectivism out of reading others' posts. Since I will continue to read here, if I come up with anything "good" I'll write it down for later on.

Excellent people take most of the load on themselves.

I agree with the addictive character of foruming. Mostly it is a 'good addiction', being stimulated by others' contributions into deeper or newer thought -- and then to see your own ideas taking form as you write. The downside of all this sometimes probably calls for time out, when one starts disliking some facets (impatience, etc) one sees of oneself emerge.

Now don't go too far away, Brant!

Brant,

Be well.

Be happy.

That's what I want for you.

I like your "edge", Brant... :smile: and have never found anything you've said to be the least bit personally offensive. I love to witness ideas under fire. Dissonance can be more valuable than harmony in that it reveals hidden facets of our being. There's no value to living in an echo chamber.

Parker asked Hemingway: "Exactly what do you mean by 'guts'?"

Hemingway replied: "I mean, grace under pressure."

Antifragility is BEYOND resilience or robustness.

The resilient resists shocks and stays the SAME;

the antifragile gets BETTER.

This property is well worth cultivating in our lives. :smile:
