  1. Meanwhile, here in the Tarnished State, vaccine mandates are on the table: California to debate mandating Covid vaccines at all workplaces - POLITICO WWW.POLITICO.COM The bill would require workers to show proof of vaccination. Buffy Wicks - reminds me of a character in Atlas. Can't make this shit up!
  2. William, rumors of Bill Dwyer's demise have been greatly exaggerated! ;-) I don't know who Mary Ann is or was, but Bill is still going strong at age 78. Dennis

  4. Except he is opposed to aid in dying: President Trump has officially nominated Judge Neil Gorsuch for the vacant seat on the Supreme Court. As a devoted member of this movement [Compassion and Choices], you need to know how frightening this is: Judge Gorsuch opposes medical aid in dying and wrote The Future of Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia (2006), heralded as “the most comprehensive argument against their legalization--ever published.”
  5. Interesting conversation with Freeman Dyson. http://nautil.us/issue/43/heroes/my-life-with-the-physics-dream-team?utm_content=buffera756a&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer
  6. Baal, That's quite a story. Thanks for sharing. <<I used to do that when I was young. You ought to be doing that NOW! In our club, most of the members are old timers, so the challenge is to get more young people interested to keep the hobby alive for future generations.
  7. Baal, I don't know the scale-speed. In normal playtime, I doubt that anyone pays it much attention. However, I will make an inquiry. During Operations sessions when the desire is to run as prototypically as possible, maybe then it is a factor looked at. For our layout, the intent is to make it conform largely to ~1940-1960-ish scenery and much of the rolling stock, so I'm sure there is no interest in modelling mag-lev. But your idea might become popular once we get room temperature superconductivity.
  8. I joined a club about six months ago, part of which is shown below.
  9. Melania speaks: A 60-ish man allows himself to be "egged on?" Oh, please!
  10. Donald Trump may be exploiting a psychological bias to win votes - James Surowiecki I think James Surowiecki has a good insight here. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/trump-clinton-2016-loss-aversion-201827730.html# Bet on the longshot Trump rather than the certain disaster Hillary.
  11. Isn't this cute? How long could that wheel spin if he left the two balls in place? https://www.facebook.com/fizikist/videos/943426745706464/
