  1. Good point, by drug I mean a mind altering substance.
  2. I hear often that drug dealers are terribly immoral because they 'push' drugs on people. Yet, people have to be responsible for themselves. To blame the drug dealer seems to take the responsibility off of the individual. The individual is destroying his own life. Some may claim that the drug dealer doesn't trade value for value. He is trading a non value (the drugs) in exchange for a value (money). The drugs may be argued to not be a value because they do not further life. Yet, as pharmacists like to say, the poison is in the dose. The danger comes from the amount, and almost any drug can be deadly. So, what are y'all's thoughts? Does the drug dealer act immorally by selling drugs?
  3. The huge push back is a good sign, no one fights you until they fear you. Your'e right about how good we have it here. Those on the left love to complain about the wealthiest 1%, which seems like an arbitrary cutoff, yet worldwide everyone in the US is in the wealthiest 1%. We are still many years away though. Gary Johnson was the most pro-liberty presidential candidate in 2012, yet he received a mere 1% or so of the vote. Not one single senator or member of the house is Libertarian. I think the liberty movement could do what the progressive movement did in the early 20th century, which would still take decades. It seems that patience and perseverance will be key here.
  4. Thanks, I do love the south. Where are you from?
  5. I like your optimism. I will push forward regardless, as giving up is never an option. I understood Dagny's dilemma, we must keep fighting. I'm curious, of which conditions are you speaking? Are you referencing the surging liberty movement in politics?
  6. Rules 1 and 3 were created during a time when grammarians were trying to impose grammar rules for latin onto english. But, english is not latin, english follows its own set of rules of grammar. I also have no problem with beginning sentences with conjunctions.
  7. I'm from central Alabama, near Birmingham. I too fear it might be too late, very few people I speak to understand the ideas of individual liberty. Nerian, I agree, Objectivism really is a work of genius.
  8. I suppose I should tell y'all a bit about myself. I graduated from The University of Alabama in 2004 with a BS in Business Management. I have been working in the construction industry with my family's business since then. I am involved in the Libertarian Party of Alabama. I read Atlas Shrugged in 2009, and it changed my life. I'm sure a lot of people say that. I didn't study philosophy in school, and I have just recently began to study it on my own.
  9. Hello all, My name is Charlie and I am from Alabama. I a new to Objectivism and am still learning the fundamentals. I'm looking forward to some good conversations. - Charlie
