Angel priest Missouri update: A mystery man dressed as a Catholic priest is wanted by local authorities, not for a crime, but for a "miracle" he performed. The unidentified man is being called an angel after he visited the scene of a horrific car accident Sunday, prayed for the victim -- who survived -- and vanished.

Do you believe in angels and miracles? According to an August 8 Huffington Post report, first responders and the people of Center certainly do. To them, a mysterious angel priest in the Missouri town is responsible for saving 19-year-old Katie Lentz's life.

This quote is from the Huffington Post article:

Father James Martin, a Jesuit priest and author of My Life with the Saints, has a different theory.

"Most likely the priest will be identified, and people will be able to thank him," he told The Huffington Post in an emailed message Thursday. "If he's not found, that may mean he wants to remain anonymous. Could it have been an angel? There are similar 'angelic' stories in the lives of the saints, when a figure inexplicably appears and cannot be located afterwards. There are angels, of course, but we tend to ascribe to angels anonymous acts that we find incredibly loving -- when in fact human beings do incredibly loving things in hidden ways every day."

"Mystery" Priest identified...

The mystery priest who appeared at the scene of a serious accident last week in eastern Missouri involving a teenager has been identified as the Rev. Patrick Dowling, KDSK and other news agencies are reporting.

The Diocese of Jefferson City, Mo., identified the clergyman after he stepped forward in the comments section of a story about the incident in the National Catholic Register.

Emergency responders had been working on extricating Katie Lentz, 19, from her damaged vehicle for at least 45 minutes when they saw her condition was drastically deteriorating. When Lentz asked if those around her would pray with her out loud, the priest stepped forward and said he would.

After emergency responders successfully removed Lentz from the wreckage and sent her off to the hospital via helicopter, they went to thank the priest and found he'd disappeared.

Dowling wrote in the National Catholic Register that he was returning from Mass when he came upon the accident scene.

Quite a story. Just imagine if that kid with the Obama prayer had been on the scene!

I was thinking more of the rodeo clown being in the Oval Orifice...oh, wait, he is!

Or imagine if instead of a priest, Glenn Beck showed up with a group of militant atheists he had been interviewing on his show. The altercations, with Missourian Crazy Janet haranguing the brawlers about the postmodern significance of their actions, would have got so out of hand that that poor girl would still be trapped in her car.

Glenn would never allow that to happen. He might have trepidations about setting foot in Missouri...remember you were able, by statute to hunt and kill Mormons.

Did the Mormons use to dress up as grizzly bears?

Good one Carol...that was the reason they took off to Utah...

Caro, FYI:

Missouri Executive Order 44, also known as the "Mormon Extermination Order"[1] (alt. exterminating order)[2] in Latter Day Saint history, was an executive order issued on October 27, 1838 by the governor of Missouri, Lilburn Boggs. It was issued in the aftermath of the Battle of Crooked River, a clash between Mormons and a unit of the Missouri State Guard in northern Ray County, Missouri, during the Mormon War of 1838. Claiming that the Mormons had committed "open and avowed defiance of the laws", and had "made war upon the people of this State," Boggs directed that "the Mormons must be treated as enemies, and must be exterminated or driven from the State if necessary for the public peace—their outrages are beyond all description".[2]

The Mormon founder, Joseph Smith, claimed that he received the "gold tablets" from the angel, "Moroni," so wouldn't it be more appropriate if Smith had named his flock,...Morons?

Regarding the recent "unknown priest/angel" in Missouri, why did the real priest decide to blow his cover, and come forward? Golly, we had Fox News featuring the story on its nightly "news" programs, as well as practically every other media outlet, desperate for ratings, featuring this "miracle." We even had news articles quoting some local Missouri Catholics claiming that the angelic apparition was actually, Padre Pio!

And then, this priest ruins the whole circus with,...the truth. Damn!
