Lord Stanley I Presume?

Recommended Posts

I absololutely believe. It is meant.

I am for LA, but a Stanley Cup final sweep...not best fun for fans except, of course, natives of Sweep City.

I do love tradition of Cup presentation directly to winner ream captain, and all winnner playes -not to suits. And custody all year to players and staff.

Carol,

I concur that a sweep is always a little disappointing, even if you’re on the winning side. Sports needs the luster of drama. Lopsided ‘competition’ is boring, even though the outcome may be a dream come true.

I knew the practice facility was next door, but have now been informed that the Kings’ main LA business office is in my office building. No doubt Lord Stanley will be paying a visit soon. Perhaps we will have a chance to meet in person. It will be a humbling experience. Imagine sharing an elevator ride with the Holy Grail

BTW--Normally the fine citizens of LA celebrate sports championships by setting police cars ablaze and generally creating as much mayhem as an out-of-control mob of drunken, overweight non-athletes can manage. Since you’re an honorary Angeleno, I would hope you will carry on with that great tradition in the Great White North.

Uh-oh.

Confession time: I'm glad the Devils won. Guess I'm more of an excitement junkie than a diehard Kings' fan. Saturday's game should be a thriller!

Carol--An 'extra spicy' dousing will do fine. But watch out for paint balls coming your way. (Surely they don't let bicycle cops have real guns, do they?)

I've heard that the hockey sticks are substitutes for pooper-scoopers up there in the frozen north. The only caveat is you don't use them on fresh poop. This is the way teenage Canadian boys learn the game.

don't correct me if I'm wrong--if I'm wrong I don't wanna be right

Only teen boys too slow to learn at correct time, ten years earlier between 2 and 4.

Phil I am sure would attest to the armamentarium of the various two-wheeled squads on Toronto streets and byways. I am sure they prefer to taze or gas before shooting, but that is probably only because of all the dang socialist paperwork when you unfasten your holster.

And of course the armed cyclists in Montreal are perhaps best represented by their two-wheeled riot squad, also burly, here facing off against those pesky students:

Is it my imagination, or have the Kings decided to play too cautiously?

I still think that your team will win...

imo it is tiredness. And all streaks end. But I cautiously partake of your opinion. In 6, or 7? I will say in 7.

Carol:

Hmmm I don't know if the Kings can win a seventh game here...

They should come out in a full aggressive mode for game six (6), tired may be an accurate description, but it sure does erode at your confidence if they lose game six (6) and the Devils will get that sense of destiny.

Focus on six, because seven may be written in game six.

Bill Plashke in the Los Angeles Times:

The Devils are the first team in 67 years to trail a Stanley Cup final series 3 games to none and force a game six. Only one team in history has ever come back from a similar deficit and actually won the Cup, and that hasn’t happened in 70 years. Is it happening now? It felt like it Saturday…

In the Kings race against 45 years worth of demons, the demons are gaining.

So what’s it gonna be, Kings? The Stanley Cup or a total collapse the likes of which the NHL hasn’t witnessed in 70 years?

Paths to the Final

Toronto defeated the New York Rangers in a best-of-seven 4–2 to advance to the finals. The Red Wings had to play two best-of three series; winning 2–1 against the Montreal Canadiens, and 2–0 against the Boston Bruins.

The series

This was the series of the remarkable comeback. Toronto came back from a 3–0 deficit to win the best-of-seven Stanley Cup Final. As of 2011, the feat has not been duplicated. Detroit coach Jack Adams was suspended after violence in the third game of the series. The seventh game, held in Toronto, was the first time a crowd of over 16,000 attended a hockey game in Canada.
