Songs You Can't Get out of your Head

In my head I could not stop hearing Hall and Oates singing, Shes Gone, so I looked the phenomenon up. It is called a brainworm.

There is a web site called 100 songs you cant get out of your head? I selected some from their list and put them at the bottom. Anyone else have a song they cant forget?

Oh no. What have I done! Now I cant get The Impression That I Get by the Mighty Bosstones out of my brain.

Here are some songs from that list.

Y.M.C.A. by the Village People

The Christmas Song by Alvin and The Chipmunks

The Impression That I Get by the Mighty Bosstones

Whats Up by 4 Non Blondes

Disneys Its a small World

Wake Me Up Before you Go-Go by Wham

One Week and The Big Bang theme by Barenaked Ladies

Dont Worry, Be Happy by Bobby McFerrin

We Built This City by Jefferson Starship

Uptown Girl by Billy Joel

Ghost Busters by Ray Parker Jr.

The Sign by Ace of Base

Gonna Fly Now composed by Bill Conti

Here's a song that used to drive me crazy, especially in my drug years. It's called "Side by Side." This thing would invade my skull when I was high and it was merciless. :)

The version I remember from my youth was either by Roy Rogers and Dale Evans or Lucille Ball and Co. Don't ask me how my memory can get those mixed up in my head. It's dangerous in there. :)

I remember the scene in B&W TV where the characters were dressed in cowboy costumes, but driving a really old convertible jalopy on a dirt road and singing the song while smiling and looking at each other. Maybe my subconscious is blending memories without me realizing it. I can't find it on YouTube.

But I did find this charming thing (and goddam it, the earworm came back! :) ).

So to get rid of the earworm, take this you lousy song!

:)

Aruba, Jamaica, ooh I want to take ya

Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama

Key Largo, Montego, baby why don't we go, Jamaica

Off the Florida Keys, there's a place called Kokomo

That's where you want to go to get away from it all

Bodies in the sand, tropical drink melting in your hand

We'll be falling in love to the rhythm of a steel drum band

Down in Kokomo

[Chorus]

Aruba, Jamaica, ooh I want to take you to

Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama

Key Largo, Montego, baby why don't we go

Ooh I want to take you down to

Kokomo, we'll get there fast and then we'll take it slow

That's where we want to go, way down in Kokomo.

Martinique, that Montserrat mystique

We'll put out to sea and we'll perfect our chemistry

And by and by we'll defy a little bit of gravity

Afternoon delight, cocktails and moonlit nights

That dreamy look in your eye, give me a tropical contact high

Way down in Kokomo

[Chorus]

Port au Prince, I want to catch a glimpse

Everybody knows a little place like Kokomo

Now if you want to go and get away from it all

Go down to Kokomo

[Chorus]

Aruba, Jamaica, ooh I want to take you to

Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama

Key Largo, Montego, baby why don't we go

Ooh I want to take you down to

When I was a teen, Karma Chameleon! Drove me batshit crazy!

"In an interview, Culture Club frontman Boy George explained: "The song is about the terrible fear of alienation that people have, the fear of standing up for one thing. It's about trying to suck up to everybody. Basically, if you aren't true, if you don't act like you feel, then you get Karma-justice, that's nature's way of paying you back."[4]"

More ammo for you Greg...

Culture Club – Karma Chameleon Lyrics

Dessert loving in your eyes all the way.

If I listen to your lies,

would you say I'm a man without conviction,

I'm a man who doesn't know

how to sale a contradiction?

You come and go, you come and go.

Karma, karma, karma, karma, karma, chameleon,

You come and go, you come and go.

Loving would be easy if your colours were like my dreams:

red, gold, and green, red, gold, and green.

Didn't you hear your wicked words ever'y day.

And you used to be so sweet.

I heard you say that my love was an addiction.

When we cling, our love is strong.

When you go, you're gone forever.

You string along, you string along.

Karma, karma, karma, karma, karma, chameleon,

You come and go, you come and go.

Loving would be easy if your colours were like my dreams:

red, gold, and green, red, gold, and green.

Ev'ry day is like survival.

You're my lover, not my rival.

Ev'ry day is like survival.

You're my lover, not my rival.

I'm a man without conviction

I'm a man who doesn't know

How to sale a contradiction?

You come and go, you come and go.

Karma, karma, karma, karma, karma, chameleon,

You come and go, you come and go.

Loving would be easy if your colours were like my dreams:

red, gold, and green, red, gold, and green.

Karma, karma, karma, karma, karma, chameleon,

You come and go, you come and go.

Loving would be easy if your colours were like my dreams:

red, gold, and green, red, gold, and green.

Although the lyrics are a bit weird for Fleetwood Mac (who are fans of Rand,) the music and guitar work are superb. Can you imagine saying anything better to your loving husband or wife? Listen to it once and it will happily be around whenever you need it.

Peter

Fleetwood Mac- You Make Loving Fun

Sweet wonderful you

You make me happy with the things you do

Oh, can it be so?

This feeling follows me wherever I go

I never did believe in miracles

But I've a feeling it's time to try

I never did believe in the ways of magic

But I'm beginning to wonder why

I never did believe in miracles

But I've a feeling it's time to try

I never did believe in the ways of magic

But I'm beginning to wonder why

Don't, don't break the spell

It would be different and you know it will

You, you make loving fun

And I don't have to tell you but you're the only one

You make loving fun . . . .

Although the lyrics are a bit weird for Fleetwood Mac (who are fans of Rand,) the music and guitar work are superb.

Peter:

Thanks, I was not aware that they were "fans."

In taking a look at some of the search results, I came across this type of virtuous venom:

Fleming on Rand

Vis-à-vis our recent discussion on the wretchedness of Ayn Rand and what our possible future Vice-President’s loyalty to her ideals says about him, Thomas Fleming has a delightful essay about the deranged slut and the legion of monsters her writings have spawned (h/t to commenter Daniel S. at Thinking Housewife):

Ayn Rand was dreadful in every way. As an intellectual, she offered a warmed-over version of Nietzsche seasoned with borrowed bits of Isabel Patterson. Her ideology of “Objectivism” can be summed up in Rand’s own words as “the virtue of selfishness.” In other words, greed is good, look out for number one, charity is bunk. Yes, I get it. It is the creed of the selfish jerks who make everyday life in America so unpleasant.

Then there are her really dreadful novels. I did succeed in finishing The Fountainhead, and if someone has a taste for cheap romantic fiction with improbably larger-than-life characters, he might actually like such stuff, though Rand faces stiff competition from the likes of Jacqueline Susann, Harold Robbins, and Victoria Holt. As for Atlas Shrugged–the book Paul Ryan professed to like–it is really awful beyond words. I well remember my own reaction to the over-quoted first sentence, “Who is John Galt?” Who could possibly care?

The less said of Rand’s personal life, the better. The long-running soap opera of her marital infidelities with her disciple “Nathaniel Branden” (not his real name) have been disclosed in excruciating detail by Branden’s wife. From the bits I read, it was a lot like the cheating and lying that caused the breakup of the rock band Fleetwood Mac. It is bad enough that such tacky people exist in our society. What effrontery they have to parade their dirty little secrets in public.

Perhaps the worst thing about Rand is the character of so many of her followers: nerdy little dweebs (as we used to call them back them) who imagine themselves to be supermen. I used to run into Objectivists all the time, and I could never decide which of their offensive qualities was the most prominent. Rudeness, arrogance, or imbecillity.

Towards the end is a little anecdote, which makes Rand out to be so utterly depraved that I have a hard time believing it, in which Murray Rothbard noisily departed from Rand’s company after she tried to compel his wife to repudiate Christ. Does anyone know if it’s accurate?

Now, if you would even whisper a compliment about what a horndog B. J. Clinton was, the pity patella reflex is that it was only sex!

Funny how doubly ethically disabled they are...

Michael Crawford on UTube alongside of Sarah Brightman, singing, "Music of the Night." Then listen to her version too. I almost cry when I hear either one.

And for a wonderfully weird time watch Sarah Brightman's Utube version of "You Take my Breath Away" mixed in with an Indian singer and Ballywood type choreography. Anyone else feel like some curry?

I woke up this morning with the tune “One More Night” in my brain.

Remember these? I also looked at some of the videos and they were well done also. “Do You Remember,” “I Wish it Would Rain Down On Me,” “Another Day in Paradise,” “One More Night” and “In the Air Tonight,” all by Phil Collins.

I just listened to that Imagine Dragons song again. Damn. And how about another, stick to your ears song? The pre-James Bond, Peter Gunn Theme by Henry Mancini. And the Blues Brothers and Jeff Beck versions are good too. Bond. James Bond.

From The World Wide Web. In the United States, most Colleges and Universities Spring Break 2021 will occur this year between March 9th to April 21st. The two peak weeks will be the week of March 7th and March 14th.

I hope they will be listening to some “retro.” Ear worms? “Maneater,” “Sara Smile,” “Out of Touch,” “You Make My Dreams Come True,” and of course, “I Can’t Go For That.”

Top 10 Hall & Oates Songs. From Matthew, Music, Rock Music. #10. Maneater The song is about a “maneater” woman who is very seductive and has expensive tastes in order to seduce men. Nelly Furtado’s song with the same name was also inspired by the Hall and Oates. #9. Wait For Me The song is about trying to keep a relationship together. The duo wrote this song, and It was produced by David Foster. #8. Sara Smile The song was written for Sara Allen, who was the girlfriend of Daryl. They were together for 28 years, and Sarah was also a good company for the group. It is known that the song has a very special place for them. #7. Method of Modern Love The song was written by Hall and Sara’s sister Janna Allen who died of leukemia. The song is about having true love in the modern world. #6. One On One The song is using a basketball term as a metaphor for a romantic relationship. It was also used for NBA promos in the ’80s. #5. Say it Isn’t So The inspiration for this song is coming from how people perceived the group and how they react to it. At some point, they start to feel like an outsider, and this is where they made this song. #4. Out Of Touch The song has a very deep meaning about the soul. It was also featured in the video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, 2002. #3. Private Eyes As the song title reveals, the inspiration for the song came from the film with the same name. It became a very popular song of the early ’80s. #2 You Make My Dreams The song was written by Oats, Hall, and Sarah Allen. It is also one of the group’s favorites as Oats once mentioned, “it is a great song, simple as that” we totally agree! #1. I Can’t Go For That This phrase “I can’t go for that” is something commonly used by Hall when he doesn’t want to do something. It is also known that Michael Jackson got the inspiration for his famous hit “Billie Jean” from this song.

I saw Beck playing with Clapton at a Crossroads concert. Virtually. I have seen him at the Blues Club in Orlando. Legendary. Anyway I saw him play an old favorite, Cause We've Ended as Lovers. He uses volume and vibrato on a Strat like no one I've seen. Actually makes Clapton (god) look human dressed in Granddad clothes. It was written by Stevie Wonder and sung by his wife on the way out. She had a wonderful voice. Syreeta Wonder, a beautiful piece that would have felt like home in a James Bond film.

Apple iTunes is maddening. 21,744 songs and its crapping on them. Apple is leaving it behind as it moves to Catalina. No mac for me.

Best Daryls' House episode was with Smokey Robinson. They did Tears of a Clown and Sara Smile.

Best Daryls' House

Was that on PBS? I vaguely remember it. How long ago was it on? My daughter Sarah and her husband traveled to Virginia Beach if I remember it right, to see Hall and Oates. And a guy I worked with named Keith Kluger? was a gofer for H and O and I think it was in Philly, Pennsylvania.

You might be thinking of Austin City Limits. But no I think MTV. It comes and goes but not forgotten. I saw it the other night with Ben Folds. But not all is lost. https://www.livefromdarylshouse.com/archive.html

ACL is back live. But Joe Bonamassa is streaming a concert there April 1st and On Demand for 1 month. Its really quite a deal, for $35. I saw him at Royal Albert Hall in '19, followed his career for 15 yrs.

Talk about blues, live music has been decimated. Now that's sad.
