Anyone:

music lovers: I said on another art gallery post that I plan to do a large out put of paintings and drawings of various icons and idols—and music will fill a great bulk of those paintings. Who are your favorite musicians that you would like to see in a painting?

Mick! What a great selection so far. Now you are talking my language! I'm a big fan of these artists...big yes to Johnny Cash, the man in black. I love his music; i have his Sun collection and American Recordings. He is a for SURE. Kat is a big Beatles fan [ as am I] and so they are on the list...among the others.

Michael, you stole my thunder! Now I'm stuck wracking my brain for musicians I'd like to see Victor paint, since you already took my Beatles and my Who. :-)

How about Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach? Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe?

Ok, now, Victor, you HAVE to do a painting of Lord God Bono (he's Lord God in his own mind, anyway.) Speaking of people with no lack of self-esteem, how about one of the Chairman of the Board?

Oh, and a woman who could have used self-esteem, poor tragic woman: Billie Holiday.

Taking requests?! Of course, I wanna see the Beatles! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!!

Others in the music world would be Bowie (Inky's fave) and some Rock-n-roll legends from the 60s like Hendrix, Janis and the Doors/Morrison. All lovingly done, of course. Others ripe for caricaturing are Madonna, Bono, Marilyn Manson, The Who, and The Rat Pack.

I will post Michael Jackson and Elvis.

Peri,

All the people you mentioned are worthy of caricaturing, for sure. You have a very interesting and vast range of taste in music...much like my own. I'm all over the musical map. Good call, girl! :)

Kori,

Thanks so much for posting here at OL. You seem to be a rather passionate person about music—or most things esthetic, including my irreverent caricatures. Do you mind if I ask which age group you belong to? I’m asking you this because I’m rather very curious to know who the most popular musicians are within your circle of friends—as I plan on doing a series of paintings featuring today’s icons and idols. List some names and you may very well see my interpretation of them. Sadly, an old fart like me has been out of the loop for a while and I would appreciate your feed-back.

Victor,

I AM very passionate about music, how did you guess? I won't be able to hear when I'm old because I always blast my headphones. I'm 17 (for real), but I'm 11 and 55 at the same time.

My favorite bands/musicians include Manson (of course), KoRn, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails, KMFDM, Mindless Self Indulgence, My Chemical Romance, Weird Al (would be a good caricature!), Billy Talent, Fiona Apple, Tori Amos, Rush, The Cure, Beck, Sublime, and I also can't help but like Justin Timberlake *blush*. I don't know very many people who like a weird combination of bands like that...

Of course my list is incomplete without rap. My favorite rappers are Eminem (again, of course), Tupac (a HUGE rap icon that I think would go well with your icons and idols series), Notorious BIG (who is also a huge rap icon), Jay-Z (whose face is so goofy that he would make a great caricature), Nas, Chamillionaire, Xzibit, Ludacris, 2 Live Crew, NWA, DMX, Method Man, Redman.

Those lists are incomplete, but that's what came off the top of my head. You are more than welcome to my feedback anytime you wish. Let me know if you consider doing any of those artists I mentioned.

-Kori

By the way, you're not an old fart.

Aside from my own taste in music, I’m looking at painting the people listed below:

Elton John

Cher

The Ramones

The Cure

Sinatra

Rush

U2

Fiona Apple

Beck

Manson

Beatles

Bowie

Tupac

Jim Morrison

Bob Dylan

I love many of the people on the list, others I couldn't care for less. But they are all worthy of capturing in a painting from a cultural point of view. But it is not full list by a long shot. Kori, I'm still thinking about what rappers to do. It'll all be so much fun. I hope you'll get my book when it's done. ;)

Kori,

By the way, I love Fiona Apple. Her recent CD EXTRAORDINARY MACHINE is fantastic.

Given that you like Fiona, you must seriosly check out a girl by the name Feist AND Lily Frost. These are two great artists. This is gorgeous stuff, and I love to paint while playing their music.

When I'm in a dark mood, I listen to Portishead.

You should paint Bono with his head up his ass. I was actually going to suggest you paint him in one of the other threads. He's a good one for icons and idols.

Fiona Apple really is extraordinary. Back in the day, her and Manson were going to do a collaboration, but it never happened. :( Would've been excellent. On the recent re-release of The Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack, she did a cover of "Sally's Song" and Manson did "This is Halloween." You should check it out. Danny Elfman is spectacular.

I will check out Feist and Lily Frost. I've never heard Portishead, but I will check them out as well. :)

Your list of icons looks excellent so far. I'm especially looking forward to Rush, The Ramones, The Cure, and Elton John (as well as Manson and Tupac, of course). If you need any help with rappers, let me know *cough*Eminem*cough*.

And last, but not least...OF COURSE I will buy your book. Can you describe what it will be like, please? Will there be excerpts about each artist, or...?

Kori,

Here, I dug this up from google. It's about the book to be. :)

Victor's current focus is also to complete a coffee-table book titled "Icons and Idols: A Portrait of the Twentieth Century". Pop goes to the culture! This is a satire of the makers and breakers of our times, a satirical examination in pictorial depiction of popular culture. This stunning book will feature the caricature art of Victor Pross and will be accompanied by humorous text. The book examines pop culture as seen through the distorted funhouse mirror of a satirist trapped in the body of a fine art painter.

Okay, I so had to post. RUSH dammit....do RUSH....NEIL PEARTE or any of the band members. Oh, my God, that would be so TOTALLY awesome. And then on top of it, if I could get it on a T-shirt or tank or mug, I would be even more stoked....wooohooo !!!!.....that would so make my day, if not month. Better yet, make my day always whenever I wore the tank or tee. I love the spaghetti tank. It's so cute and summery!! It's been so hot where I'm at lately, 95 the other day.

Honey, if you do Neil Pearte or just the band RUSH, please post it. And if could I get that on my spaghetti tank, even better. I'm going to be ordering the stuff I want anyway. But if you do Rush, please post it.

Kat, can I get more colors other than white because I want to order a few tanks as well as an oversized tee (perfect for bedtime) but not all white? If not, can you arrange it that way? Also can I switch up the art on what I buy? So if Victor ever does Rush, can I order that on a mug, tank, etc? Remember, HUGE RUSH FAN over here !!!

Kori,

For my painting plans, I have decided to include Manson and M&M in the book. Now, being the youngest person here, I think, I would like to get your opinion of two other modern music icons or idols that should be included. Select wisely.

In time, the images may be added to the store. http://www.cafepress.com/victorpross
